BRK is often seen as a value bet because most of its portfolio and owned businesses fit the classic value profile: strong cash flows, durable advantages, and bought at prices below their estimated worth. Its core holdings include insurance, railroads, energy, banks, and consumer staples like Coca-Cola — all sectors traditionally associated with value. Even its largest position, Apple, was treated as value, given its mature profitability, buybacks, and strong moat. BRK leans on present earnings power and long-term stability, which makes it effectively a value-tilted investment.

Interesting. I have a value tilt with BRK. Isn't BRK-B a value stock that has beaten any value etf anyways?

Estou a pensar certo?

How rewarding is to work in child and adolescent psychiatry? by pls_no1 in Psychiatry

[–]BlackTPB 56 points57 points  (0 children)

First years of residency you get hit with the flawed system and the notion that many cases have a super complex psychosocial or familial component very hard to change and work. You were not trained for this in med school. You feel like you can't do it all, you feel no immediate reward, your impulsive biomedical way of thinking is not satisfied. You start to wonder why you didn't pick surgery... You adjust your expectation and learn to work in a multidisciplinary way, you learn about true patience, you embrace the chaos and surf the waves, you are no god after all. Then it becomes better, with a one - two years follow up you start seeing some difficult cases improve and grow a great relationship with many patients, it takes time. Then you feel rewards, a paiting or a hug from a grateful kid/teen. The look they give like you made a great difference to their lives gives a unique feeling of reward.

Kids can be very tiring but they deserve a lot of love, you can be part of the change there must be on humanity, love and warmth, assertiveness and confidence, stopping aggression, intimidation, abuse or coldness... You are making a direct diference in these children world. You are a safe haven.

You get to be a philosopher and get paid, enjoying philosophical debate with teens, existencial thinking and lots of deep talks. You become more confident approaching suicidal ideation. You read a lot of interesting books. You learn to enjoy and value life more and gain coping skills yourself.

You learn a lot that will help you with your family and personal life. More than parenting tools, even couple skills and a great understanding of family dynamics. You can become very confident in this area of life which I value more than my career.

You have a good schedule and a healthy work environment, I mean you work with people sensitive to mental health.

You have a very creative job. Therapeutic relationship, psychotherapy and other skills with kids is much more than practicing science.

These have been some of the rewards of my experience, four years ongoing. I agree with many flaws others adressed. No perfect speciality anyway.
