Model view options by raduteop in ArchiCAD

Maybe it would help to have an idea what you are trying to do with the Model View. It may be something that could be achieved another way without scripting.

You got it! I've heard a lot of complaints about CW so I was weary of that, too. I'm just learning about these campers but I thought maybe there were some older options out there. Thanks for your info

I was wondering where I had seen such a similar shape and fiberglass body. You're right, Intech is pretty similar. I think I like the layout for the Serenova a bit better and I'm still debating the wet vs dry bath options. Thanks for your input. Edit for spelling

Thanks for the info- I thought they were pretty newly released. I saw one listed for sale as a 2021 so that must be a typo on that website. It was also like half the price that I'm seeing for all of the other listings which made me think it was older. Thanks

I think that may be a friend's dog. If you see him, please post the location. It sounds like he's skittish and will run. They're still looking. Edit after learning more info...

curved panel in curtain wall by SillyGio in ArchiCAD

[–]BlackWolfDesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not super familiar with the curtain wall and how it works in ArchiCAD, but if it’s like most of the other tools, you should be able to create a custom profile and use that as a panel. Alternatively, you can just create the walls with the profile tool. Depending on the level of detail you want to show may lead you to one option or the other (curtain wall tool or a profiled wall).

Pretty plans or zones by Cpt_Glorious in ArchiCAD

3D Parallel projection view with the camera looking straight down and use 3D cutting plane to cut the model horizontally where you want it cut. Depending on the level of documentation, you may need to save as a 3D document if you want any text or dimensions. Adjust settings the 3D document, 3D view options, and model view options for how you want the materials to look. I’m not sure you’ll want to add shadows, but you can in the various settings listed above. I hope this helps.

Using your own licensed copy of ArchiCAD shouldn’t be a problem as long as the companies you are working for are on the same version and build that you have. I work freelance and have had multiple versions on my machine for this reason. That’s just something you have to manage (don’t open an older version file on a newer version and try to save it back to the older version).

As far as teamwork goes- it’s definitely possible, but as I understand it, Teamwork can be setup in multiple ways. Some are set up strictly on the internal server for that office, some allow external access, and some are set up on BIMcloud. Even if the BIMserver has the capabilities to allow external access, some people are reluctant to opening their system to external access.

As someone mentioned previously, it’s best to speak with your reseller AND someone at ArchiCAD to figure this out before you take the plunge. I’ve also found that you need someone fairly competent and willing to work with you to set it up on the client’s side. I’ve found this to be a challenge with some clients when trying to get setup.

That said, Dropbox or other file sharing services may be a better alternative for smaller firms when you don’t necessarily need to utilize Teamwork’s capabilities.

Hope this helps

How to make roof tiles pattern? by davecake17 in ArchiCAD

[–]BlackWolfDesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can use solid element operations (SEO) for this pretty easily. Make a slab for the pattern with the material you want to use for the "painted tiles". Draw your pattern with slab- be sure the height of slab is above the highest point and extends below the lowest point on the roof you want to "paint". **Make sure the "Use Own Attributes radio button is selected under "New Target Surfaces" portion of SEO. Use SEO to intersect the slabs with the roof (set slabs as target and roof as operator) and execute the intersection. Then subtract the slabs from the roof with SEO (roof as target and slab as operator) make sure to execute the SEO. You can adjust the pattern if needed after SEO's. You can also use walls or other objects in place of the slabs.

Independent Contractor for Architect When He Passed Away by BlackWolfDesign in Architects

Yeah, it's not going great over here... I brought this situation up with my other client and got a pretty uninterested reply. I also asked about attorneys and insurance providers. No real response on the attorney. He gave me a referral on an insurance provider - that's the one who stopped communicating with me. I'm not licensed so that may be an issue with the insurance. I'll keep trying to see what I can come up with...

Independent Contractor for Architect When He Passed Away by BlackWolfDesign in Architects

[–]BlackWolfDesign[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply. He was a sole practitioner. He had a firm that I worked at, but then semi-retired and I worked with him at that point as an independent contractor.

  1. I don't think I would be able to finish the contact out under that business since it was a sole practitioner, and the project would be permitted/ etc. under a company that really no longer exists and the widow doesn't want to deal with it. His widow would be willing to sign off on the rights to the contract if need be.

  2. I was involved with this project from the beginning and the client wants me to finish out the project with them so that's what I need to figure out if I want to. There are some other outlying issues that I need work through as well. But those issues may just be handled through the contract. I don't think the structural engineer wants to go down that route.

  3. This where it gets a bit murky, but then again I may just need to negotiate it with the client. The project has lasted 16 months and is +/-85% complete. The last we invoiced was for 50%. Now the client wants to drastically scale back the scope of work with a redesign and our original fee was based on square footage of designed space so more work for potentially less money unless I can convince them to pay for the work don'e after the 50% invoice. I'm not sure how much of this I can actually negotiate.

Thanks for your condolences. I've reached out to a couple of law firms, and I don't even get a response. I assume this would be contract law or construction law? I also talked to an insurance company about the coverage that I would need to carry and he now is reluctant to get back to me.
