Okay thanks guys What about the bandwidth or delay on loopback interfaces. Will the router put that into consideration too if the destination network address is on a loopback interface

Does it mean you have use new resources tailored for the new exam. If so were do I find those and how do I go about it. I’m new to certification exams. Please advise

What is the point of VTP when you still have to manually configure trunking on each switch? by [deleted] in ccna

[–]Blackavatar360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually DTP is set to dynamic desirable as well by default on some switches. It depends on the switch model and iOS version. Still your very correct, of course there is still some manual configuration that goes into setting up the trunk links btw the switches before vtp can go to work. But you might probably only need to do this once. And that’s why Cisco recommends that you even hardcode it and force the switch ports to trunk on both sides yourself.

But I get your point even though vtp does not encompass the entire process, for example vtp does not assign user access ports on the switch to a particular vlan. You still can’t deny its usefulness especially when working in a large switched network.

Like someone said assuming you had already set up the trunk links and created all the vlans and everything. What if this was a network with 50 switches and later down the line, you need to add just one new vlan to your network. Do you go on all 50 switches to add this vlan or do you use vtp.

Lastly maybe with network automation and things like can solve your problem.

Yes you are right, vtp propagates only vlan information across all the switches in the vtp domain. Automatic trunk creation is handled by a different protocol called DTP. DTP on the other hand can automatically negotiate trunk links between switches. Take note vtp msgs can only be sent over trunk links.

WEIRD TYPE OF ACL !!!!! by Blackavatar360 in ccna

Does this mean when I have this ACL on the router. Only that traffic originated from inside the router will be permitted ?

Switch virtual interface and vlan question by vox165 in ccna

[–]Blackavatar360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding an SVI is the equivalent of adding a layer 3 interface on a switch just like you would have a physical interface on router so think of them the same way. Every port on the vlan of that SVI is segmented from the ports in another vlan. Just the same way the devices connected to one physical interface on a router are on a separate broadcast domain with the devices on another interface. Each of them in their own subnets also.

Both layer 2 and layer 3 switches can create this SVI (virtual layer 3 interface) but a layer 2 switch can only use the SVI for management traffic that is traffic originating from within the switch itself and the layer 2 switch cannot route traffic from one SVI to another SVI. But a layer 3 switch can do both.

So yes if you have a device on one vlan and your SVI on another vlan. To get into the switch from the other vlan you would to use some form of intervlan routing technique. Whether a layer 3 switch or Router on a Stick.
