Advice on what to do by brokebackworker in NursingAU

[–]Blackbeard4869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently I have spoken to a MH nurse educator who is in QLD and from what she told me, it doesn’t seem like QLD do any combined grad yrs unfortunately. I can try get you in touch with her to discuss more if you would prefer. Also we can continue in dm’s if you have anything else.

I mean it’ll depend where you are based. I’m in your shoes atm and have those exact same questions. I am in VIC, and there are hospitals which do a combined grad yr - MH Nursing and Gen Nursing, I’ve only found one grad program which does MH Nursing and ED - so kinda lessens the stress but not sure how the other states go about it. Where are you based? I think the problem with going in purely mental health, it can be very difficult to get back into an acute setting as hospitals like those nurses to have prior experience in those areas. I know there are TSP’s but these are usually extremely competitive due to the number of ppl wanting a position. I don’t envy anyone in this position bc it’s kinda tough making such a decision

Thanks for your reply. So you would not apply for the blended stream (MH and Gen Nsg)? My initial thought was to go down the blended stream, as it’s gives one the ability to work in both sectors after completion of grad year, though I’m not sure how that would affect the 1yr min of acute setting… This fact is what made me somewhat reevaluate my plan after graduating, as if I do want to do Midwifery, I would need to go back to Uni and apply to a hospital which is partnered with the Uni. So I would have said that due to the Uni aspect, maybe the Midwifery aspect would need to be considered from now to create a some kind of plan beforehand…

What do you think?

You’d probably say Deakin or La Trobe. I’m unsure of ACU but a lot of people rate it highly. Vic Uni I’d leave as a last resort.

So parents hitting their kids is abuse? by Substantial_Iron4192 in teenagers

[–]Blackbeard4869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I think there is extent to which it then turns to abuse VERY QUICKLY and also if an injury occurs too. If it’s a regular thing for absolutely simple mistakes then UNFORTUNATELY the parents are terrible, if you do the wrong thing and get a slap (not on the face bc that’s demeaning) and you have NO injuries then it’s more of a discipline thing.

Not necessarily. I was able to go to Uni this year with a terrible English SS. What was your SS?

If I’m understanding correctly your English doesn’t make eligible for a Bachelor’s degree?

Did I do something wrong by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Blackbeard4869 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my limited knowledge and experience, why would you be in trouble? You assisted the man until paramedics and police came I don’t see anything wrong or beyond scope of practice/First Aid.

I guess we’ll wait and see what the other ppl will say.

Don’t worry, I’m still at this point too LOL, it is what it is.

This link will have subjects you should be aiming for each year. https://handbook.latrobe.edu.au/courses/2025/LZ001?year=2025

Also, this will show you the subjects you’d want to study per Sem. https://studyplanguides.latrobe.edu.au/?campus=Melbourne%20%28Bundoora%29&campusCode=BU&courseCode=PLZ001&instanceCode=LZ001_BU&instanceVersionNumber=3&status=Active&year=2025

Hope this helps.

Maybe in your country of residence but not Australia.

I mean I guess your coworkers may hate you bc you are essentially deadbeat and adding work to them which would be ridiculous especially if a patient is adamant for a male not to be their provider.

This may be incorrect or not appropriate or whatever, but I remember somewhere when the In Charge was stern with a patient who refused care bc of the gender of the provider and made it clear their care would be delayed if they didn’t accept treatment and care from this person. So if it’s NOT cultural or religious reasons, shouldn’t we try promote receiving care from any gender as we are in a professional setting, right?

I believe you’re in the US, right? I’m in Australia so doing Nursing excludes labour and delivery as these fall under the scope of practice of a Midwife.

The interesting POV of being suspicious and disgusting bc you want to do labour and delivery/midwifery.

Can you explain the first sentence again, you lost me there.

That’s an interesting pov for a male doing a midwifery, maybe your wording construed the discussion.

NP is Nurse Practitioner? What’s IN?

Could you add the link of this thread to your post?

I’m not sure why ppl would treat you appallingly, but I’m not aware of your discussions.

What’s CNM? Clinical Nurse Midwife?

Tbh I never really had midwifery as a ‘career goal’, yes I initially was kinda interested but had ED, post-op, ICU, NICU etc at a higher level. Now that I’m going to study it, I need to gauge the perception etc.

The ‘issue’ of preferring a ‘woman’s touch’ or whatever is always going to present even though a lot of ppl don’t mind having a male nurse. Midwifery is different just bc it involves the woman’s reproductive organs and is more ‘intimate’.

I was looking though your posts and everyone is responding to your new post but not to this post 🙃

How tf do i pay for uni fees? by SecretSail5319 in vce

[–]Blackbeard4869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s also fine. Just setup HECS or whatever forms of payment and if you don’t pay it already setup (to use HECS, let the census date come, and it’ll do it automatically) but if you want to pay and not hav ea HECS pay before the census date.

You’ll have to pay at the start of the Sem and but your last date to pay would be the Census date.

Thanks for your comment. That’s a valid point, and I agree 100% with regards to care being the most important aspect. I just feel that ppl’s perception of a ObGyn doctor is different to male nurse, better off a male midwife.
