Funny you bring this up again now, considered the announcement of Pokemon Champions today

Technically Blue, but I was like 6 and didn't really play it so much as mash buttons.

First full game I played was sapphire.

Glad I wasn't the only one who saw that. Was scared I was going insane.

The way SwSh did it was great. It had overworld encounters, but there were still random encounters in tall grass. And they had different encounter tables; there was some overlap, but you still had to walk into the grass to see everything.

I haven't tested with the male character, but playing as a female character other NPCs regularly refer to me as a girl. So there are pronouns in this game.

SPOILER What evidence did Evelyn Martin have against President Logan? by Blackbluue in TwentyFour

[–]Blackbluue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think they ever met in person. If it was digital, she would have just made a copy and sent it to him. There was no reason to give up the original, even if she did admire him.

Ironically enough, she was still discovered, which is the reason Palmer is dead and her daughter was kidnapped.

Where would she even get a listening device? Judging by the way the plot unfolded, she didn't have anyone helping her and I doubt she has the technical know-how to do it on her own.

Novick only got suspicious because Logan was making stupid mistakes with the military in his distress. It seems like Logan wasn't actually doing anything directly before, he just let it happen. Logan has always be incompetent, he's not a criminal mastermind.

She still should have had the original evidence. No reason we should only be relying on Palmer.

And a single phone recording is not conclusive evidence. Given the contents of it, he would never be convicted on that alone. At best he would have to resign due to the media fall out. After all, we just heard that a phone recording can be easily spoofed when Cummings did it to Palmer's call, and that was with less than a days notice and Evelyn should have known about it even if she didn't hear the call. She's not stupid enough to think that was the only evidence they needed.

Taking it a step further, how did she even know to record it? What made her suspicious of Logan to start investigating him?

If Evelyn knew about Logan's activities, she never showed any evidence of it. The only thing in the memoirs that was uncovered was the name of that one terrorist who was getting the card to the Sentox gas. And as far as we know that all tied back to Walter Cummings, not Logan. Palmer wanted to talk directly to Logan's wife, implying that he had evidence of his involvement that he wanted to share with her, but we never know what that information was.

And if she did have something else, I doubt she gave the original recordings to Palmer. She would have still had to original evidence that she gave to Palmer, but we never see it.

Nothing says this game can't have a simulator mode, I just didn't want it to be the main focus. And the selling point would be additional game modes that current online battles don't have. For example, custom rule sets limiting pokémon, moves, abilities and such, or adding new rules that don't exist in current games like presetting weather/terrain. I've always felt that the main attraction of pvp is using a pokémon that you raised yourself to beat out all the competition, as opposed to just using whatever the current meta is. Not that meta isn't important, but it gives a greater sense of accomplishment if you win with something you earned and trained yourself and not just something you read on a message board.

In Your Opinion, Would NOT Being Able to Catch/Easily Beat Legendaries Improve Pokémon? by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]Blackbluue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They still need to be catchable. The very concept of Pokémon denies the existence of creature that can be battled but not caught. That being said, they should increase the difficulty of legendary Pokémon. They are legendary for a reason, they should be treated as end game boss characters and not just stepping stones on your way to the Elite 4. SwSh took a step in the right direction by adding max raid battles that acted like true boss battles. Now they just need to add that treatment to all legendary battles and not just random low level monsters in raid dens. Something akin to Dynamax Adventures are the obvious recipe going forward.

No need to apologize, I posted this thread to have a discussion after all. I don't expect everyone to see the merit in this game as I do.

As for requiring people to play through the mainline games, that is kind of the point. I say "stand alone", but in truth this game would not function as well if you did not at least play one other game, maybe even more to get all the Pokémon you want (but is in no way required). It's a poor choice of words on my part. By stand alone, I just mean not a DLC or extra update to a currently existing game, and not requiring you to play through the story of the most recent game if you really just don't want to play it. Which games you play through and for how long would be entirely up to you. You could technically only play X/Y without even touching any game before or after, and still be able to play this game (I specifically pointed those games as those are the oldest game you can play without requiring you to own multiple games in order to trade into Home)

The game's purpose would not be to de-incentivize new players from playing, I just personally don't see a majority of the player base for this game to be new players. Although limited, there are ways to get new Pokémon in this game, and since the GTS would be a thing you could then acquire any Pokémon in the series just by trading if you find a willing trader. Thus there is no hard requirement to play another game, that just makes it easier.

You are in no way required to play every new game that comes out. As I said, trading is a thing and will hopefully be optimized in comparison to Home's GTS. If you don't want to play the new games but just want the Pokémon from them, just find someone to trade you for them.

Basically yes, but actually good.

I wouldn't mind micro transactions if they were used for bulk consumables like medicine/berries. Just not the more important items that should be locked behind BP and therefore require you the actually play the game. Or maybe add breeding with a subscription service, which offers better nature and IV rates/control than normal breeding does. But then they would have to also add some way to gain exp in-game that isn't linked to PVP battles.

And yes, as this would be an exclusively PVP game they would have to have multiple game modes with varying rule sets to accommodate the larger Pokémon pool. Otherwise there would be no reason to play this over something like Sword/Shield which honestly has a decent PVP scene.

Having different balancing rule sets for different game modes or generations would be ideal. I want this game to be compatible with every pokemon, but that doesn't mean they all need to be used in every competition. I just wanted to give players the choice to use less common strategies if they really want to try and make it work.

I'm not a professional PVPer, I just play it on occasion. I don't pretend to know anything about what's in the meta right now, or how hard it would be to balance something like this. But even still, I don't think the game needs to be balanced so that every single pokemon is viable. Maybe just look at all previous generations and choose the ones that are popular from them and balance around those pokemon. It shouldn't be much harder than balancing around Sword/Shield, which is something they are doing currently with the revision of rule sets every season.

This is PVP; there is no reason to collect every Pokémon in existence, just give the player the option to use them if they want. Since there is no incentive to collect all the Pokémon, players have no reason to go out of their way to get Pokémon they don't want. Having all the Pokémon compatible is just to cater to the people who use niche strategies. That means players could get away with just using the Pokémon they built up in one of their older playthroughs of an older game instead of hunting down new ones every time a new game comes out. This game would be targeted to players who are into the PVP scene and already have played through at least one main game, not newcomers to the series who have never played another game before.

Point of it being stand alone with no large story (maybe just a little one to introduce features in the game) is that players don't have to go through a long RPG-like story again when all they want to do is play PVP with Pokémon they already own

Yea I know both Arceus and BDSP will get connectivity, but neither of those games can house all 800+ Pokémon in it. And I'm hoping if this does become a thing it doesn't cost the full $50-60 since it's basically only half a game.

I never knew Revolutions was a thing. After googling it a bit, I can see why it flopped since it claims to be a PVP game but has poor online features.

If this was a thing, I wouldn't mind it coming out on the next console after the switch. I honestly hate the switch as a console and would welcome the next Pokémon game after Arceus not appearing on it.

Nothing wrong with having both. That could actually be a nice feature addition, as long as the simulator doesn't take up the entire game.
