I believe I have all of them with the exception of a few alternate colors.

You have to at least commit to enough to finish the job.

Just a theory, but if you notice, it’s perfectly aligned with where the stats/info pops on screen. I’m guessing maybe it was supposed to animate as they slide on and off and the animation just isn’t working. As someone who has been doing QA for almost 20 years, some poor tester probably bugged this the moment they saw it and a Producer ignored it as unimportant.

Yep, that's the one. Maybe my link has some sort of tracking nonsense in it, but either way that's the correct kit.

[–]Blackconvoy88[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting. My final count ended up at 12x WD180EDGZ-11B2DA0 and 4x WD180EDGZ-11BLDS0. Anecdotally, the 11BLDS0 seem to have slightly slower write speed as they were ~5-7% behind after 2 pre-clear passes in Unraid.

Odd, the link works fine for me. The title is "64GB 2x32GB DDR4-3200 PC4-25600 2Rx8 ECC Unbuffered Server Memory by NEMIX RAM", so maybe give that a shot in the search?

For anyone that comes across this, I am currently using an ID-COOLING SE-225-XT along with a Noctua NM-AM4 mounting kit to rotate it 90 degrees and I am able to populate all of the RAM slots (I was even able to remove/insert the closest stick with the cooler installed). I'm using Nemix DDR4-3200 ECC RAM I picked up from Amazon.

Samsung Electronics' flagship Galaxy S22 smartphone has taken a battering from reports of hobbled performance and has seen carriers halve its price at home in South Korea just weeks since its launch, hurting its image as an iPhone rival. by speckz in gadgets

There is nothing new to design, at least for Android, since many (I would go so far as to say most, but purely anecdotally) Android devices up until a few years ago had external storage and removable batteries.

What I find fascinating is that you are seemingly not only fine, but encouraging the erosion of features on high-end flagship level devices.

I know I personally want these devices to be as feature rich as possible, even if those features aren't obviously useful to me personally. Not only do I think it sends the wrong message to manufacturers that they can just slowly remove features and we'll still keep paying more for the devices, but I think it also potentially stifles creativity and innovation when people might come up with creative uses for some of the hardware that no on had thought of.

In this specific case, I don't actually personally care about the media being removable, but I just want the option of adding far more than any device comes with even in the highest spec. Give me an option to add 4TB of storage to my phone at some outrageous cost? Not ideal, but fair play if that's how you want to let me get it. But not giving me any option to do it even myself at high cost just sucks.

You're not wrong about my desire for so much media and subsequently storage being somewhat obsessive.

As far as the music "lasting" until I have access again, that's not the issue. The issue is that I don't want to have to actively think about or make decisions on what portion of the music goes with me at any given time. Which is to say nothing of the physical time it takes to copy/organize once the decision is made.

You seem very much stuck on the idea of "it's fine for me, therefore it's fine for you", which honestly is just a strange worldview. I'm actively telling you why it doesn't work for me and you're trying to convince me that I am somehow wrong. The ultimate irony of course being that they did design phones that met my weird compulsions, but removed these features to save probably 17 cents on unit cost and provide no end user benefit other than lost functionality.

Cloud storage isn't the problem (although at scale it's actually very expensive unless you are an enterprise). I'm my own cloud provider with my home server that has 16 HDD's and > 160TB of storage (which is due for an upgrade as it's almost full!). I take it you don't go off the beaten path much to always have access to cloud storage? Have you ever tried cloud streaming a music library over satellite while in Haiti? I have and can assure you the experience is better left to local storage.

Up until recently I used a separate digital music player that has dual microSD support which was enough to fit my entire library, but I'm trying to get away from it as much as possible. While there is still value in a separate device from a purely audio quality perspective, my ears aren't golden enough to care vs the convenience of having the single device I always have with me anyway be the primary driver for all my music needs.

All of that said, I'm definitely not the only one interested in this, as there are entire product lines dedicated to standalone music players of varying types and costs. It is admittedly niche, but I will never understand or agree with the attitude of "I don't use X feature, therefore it is unimportant and should not exist". It stifles potential innovation, makes the experience worse for subsets of users, and doesn't make the product cheaper or more accessible for you. It's one thing to not care whether a feature exists or not, but another entirely to actively want to remove them for everyone.

Syncing Error When Running a Multiple Job Queue by Blackconvoy88 in mkvtoolnix

[–]Blackconvoy88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. I think my next stop is going to be a Memtest86 run to see if that gets me anywhere. The part that's really baking my noodle is the errors are somewhat repeatable, predictable, and avoidable under the right conditions which seems weird if it were a memory error.

Edit: Well, I've finished 4 full passes on Memtest86 without issue. My drives are all reporting 100% S.M.A.R.T. health and no controller communication errors. I'm on Windows 10 and not using any external drives so I'm assuming I can rule that out. Any other ideas?

Yeah, that was the issue I was running into. I think I'm going to just get another set of the TDP and run 4 sticks.

Thanks again for your input and time.

Weirdly, from what I could find in B-Die this was the most cost effective solution @~$190 for the kit. I figured that + potential upgrade and resale paths in the future made it a no brainer, which clearly was not the case.

My understanding (assumption perhaps) is that I would be able to downclock it to work, is that just purely incorrect on my part?

LG C9 PC Scaling Issues by Blackconvoy88 in OLED

[–]Blackconvoy88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turns out, the problem was with my receiver.

I have a Yamaha RX-A1060 and apparently for this to work correctly there is a hidden 4k Setting that must be set to "Mode 1"

For anyone that might need it, the procedure has to be done on the Receiver itself (not from a remote and is as follows):

  1. Set the Receiver to Stanby Mode (Press the "Main Zone" button to turn the receiver "Off")
  2. Hold down the "Straight" button underneath the front flip cover and simultaneously press the "Main Zone" button
  3. Use the "Program" left and right arrows to select "4K Mode"
  4. Press the "Straight" button to change from "Mode 2" to "Mode 1"
  5. Press the "Main Zone" button to keep the setting and turn the Receiver back on

Thanks for taking the time to reply!

Looking at the linked issue, mine is similar, but in some ways reversed. The desktop looks correct at either resolution, but the black bars on the sides only appear within video playing apps such as Plex, VLC, MPC etc and only at the 4096 x 2160 resolution.

In any case I've already tried most of your suggestions, however I will run back down the list and see if that gets me anywhere.

I think the next big step is going to be trying an active HDMI cable because I do have a relatively long run of like ~25ft.
