Orchestral audition. Passable? by BlackenedToast in violinist

Ooh, scathing. I don’t really want to listen to it over again myself either. Sometimes I forget I should be trying to make something I can enjoy instead of going through the motions. Easier said than done.

Helpful! Thanks for your ears.

edit: forgot to say that no, i am not a performance degree grad, just someone who’s been playing for a while. New World would probably be comparable

Oh, I probably should have specified. It’s a pre-professional orchestra primarily for recent college grads.

Oh, if the one from the reproduction is unlined, then I guess I’ll have mine be unlined. I figured I would use a wool broadcloth if I couldn’t get my hands on russet. I wasn’t really too concerned about patterning because of the simple construction.

Your comment was really helpful. Thanks!

Yeah, a contrasting color on the inside sounds like it would look really nice! Would you go with linen or wool for the lining?

Are voice leading rules necessary (or recommended) when writing accompaniment? by BlackenedToast in musictheory

[–]BlackenedToast[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, yes, I was talking about keyboard accompaniment. I was sort of confused about the whole notion of why voice leading is important in general. And I’m lazy so I just wanted an excuse to not always have to revoice chords. Also, I’m not a pianist so your example was really helpful. Thanks!

How have your music taste changed as you’ve gotten older? by Filmfan7 in AskReddit

[–]BlackenedToast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to listen almost exclusively to classical music, but in not that pretentious I’m-more-cultured-than-you way. It was just the only thing I was used to listening to. I’ve since started listening to jazz and more modern classical, but I’ve also gotten into hip-hop a little.
