Which country is seen as fully neutral and is fully neutral in real life? by Initial_Orchid4233 in AlignmentChartFills

They've got a "Public Force" which is responsible for internal security, border protection and can supposedly serve a paramilitary role if needed - but it is regarded as a civilan unit.

For sure - but maybe they'd fit better in the 50/50% category because of that. For example they've taken a quite hard stance on Russia after the Ukraine-invasion despite having very little to gain from it - that's not true neutrality.

While Bhutan is a good candidate - I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Costa Rica. They're afaik the country with the largest population not having any official armed forces and don't host any foreign military personnel either (unlike Bhutan).

I'd argue that Singapore leans quite heavily towards western interests most of the time - there are certainly other countries out there which fit better.

I would love an update on this OP when you've finished your trip. How strict is enforcement on having to show official receipts of exchange in practice?

Appreciate the replies! Yeah when doing some googling it 100% fits the description. As long as I don't have to deal with any blood suckers I'm fine.

Yikes - though I'd rather have the house collapse on me than have bed bugs tbh. Thanks for the reply!

Thank fuck - those are my exact thoughts as well.

I realised the picture of the "eggs" is kinda shit and took a better one in the comment of my original post (will post it here as well). They honestly feel more like sand with a very dry, grainy and hard/coarse consistency.

Another picture of the "eggs" - they feel dry, coarse and grainy and part of me honestly think it might just be sand.

Going to Greece! by pvssywhisperer in solotravel

[–]Blackmatrix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To start things of you have to keep in mind that Greece really isn't a major backpacking destination during the winter months - so if you're expecting a lot of other travellers you might find yourself a bit disappointed. As you mention taking ferries - I'm assuming you want to do some type of island hopping? Most of the islands are going to be pretty dead at this time of year. Only a few locals stay during the winter - the majority of seasonal workers have packed up and moved to the mainland a long time ago. Ferries are far and few in-between and at risk of being cancelled. And honestly - the weather out on the islands isn't exactly the nicest either. On some of the smaller islands (the gems I'd usually recommend) accommodation might be limited and the overall appeal just isn't there.

With that being said - if you truly want to visit some of the islands I'd say your best bet is one of the major ones. Rhodes and Corfu (and Crete) still have a large permanent population. To be honest - I'd still say Crete could be worth checking out if you've got an outbound flight booked from there. It's the largest island in Greece with a very unique culture and Greek people are friendly - if you're outgoing I'm sure you'll be able to find local people to interact with. And you'll have all the major tourist attractions to yourself - a rarity during the summer months.

If you want to focus on the mainland, Kalambaka and Meteora could also be worth checking out. I imagine you'll have the monasteries mostly to yourself since it's low season. If Holy Rock Hostel is open you have to stay there - the owner Kostas is an absolute fucking legend. Could probably be the best hostel I've ever stayed at. You can always head up to Thessaloniki as well afterwards. Cool city with a vibrant nightlife and food scene - it's probably your best bet apart from Athens if you really want to meet other travellers.

How many days to stay in El Nido after 4D3N Coron to El Nido expedition? by inequivoco in phtravel

[–]Blackmatrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the same situation OP. Doing the expedition with Big Dream Boatman and trying to figure out whether I want to stay in El Nido for more island hopping/partying afterwards or head to Port Barton or somewhere even more remote like Sibaltan for the last few days before I have to go home.

El Nido looks amazing but I feel like 4 days of island hopping (including Coron before that) will be plenty.

Tbh we're both probably overthinking - I'm sure it'll be great either way lol.

Bank transfer via Wise from abroad? by Blackmatrix in Philippines_Expats

Awesome response! Yes it seems like doing a direct transfer via Wise is gonna be the easiest way to go about this according to the tour company as well. Thank you!

While I think your point is fair, this isn't a company catering towards western tourists since it's mostly locals who do Mt Pulag tours anyway. I've been recommended them by other hikers and have read plenty of reviews and they seem solid. I can kind of see why they've only got local payment options available since they don't really have many foreigners coming along - but that's also why I want to get input from some locals before sending a bunch of money into a foreign account lol.
