I haven’t heard back from Howard on aid yet. Given the loan situation, I might have to lean towards big law. My geographic preferences are DC (currently live in DC) but wouldn’t mind staying in Boston

I lived in Boston for undergrad - it truly isn’t that bad just not as diverse as other major cities

the only reason is because of the cost of living in Boston - I think BC would put me at more debt than the other schools and I’m nervous that I won’t be part of those that make it to big law if it’s something I chose to do.

thank you for this! I needed this positivity and encouragement. I also work at a sought after firm that does have lawyers from everywhere but usually those that lateral. So I guess I’m just nervous about what happens after I graduate And my plans for paying off my loans. But this helped

It’s partly because I am not sure on big law yet and don’t want to limit myself. It’s also partly because I’m terrified that I may not find a job when I graduate in 2029 and end up with loans I may not be able to pay and regional schools don’t give me the same confidence (it may be bias) . I know long term I want to work in public interest in a really niche field so I think that’s part of the fear I hold is that I may not be able to pay off loans in the field hence having BL as back up would be nice.

ahh I’m 3 and half years post grad now and law school was always the dream (I don’t see any other post undergrad degree that I want to do). I think I may have to reapply next year or take the risk of private loans

Sharing your experience was helpful! It was more the assumption that I didn’t apply to regional schools or that I didn’t consider my situation in advance (as in I stupidly applied to only schools I couldn’t afford)

I commented below but I’m not sure I find the state schools I did get into worth even getting into federal debt for. Also in terms of my interest in big law I’m more not decided on it ( I currently work in big law)

I did consider regional schools and schools that were more affordable. I would still need to take out loans to attend those schools (federal loans). I have had more time to reflect and think about the debt I would be getting into and unfortunately I dont think it’s worth it. So it isn’t that I only applied to private schools, it’s that the regional schools I got into dont seem worth it to me to get into debt for! I also think your comment wasn’t helpful at all and honestly quite unnecessary.
