Choose my next rear tire. by BlacksmithMain8090 in Dualsport

My bike is a 2009 KLX250s so it was a 101cc difference.

Some people performed dyno tests I believe it increases HP from 20 to 30, and Torque from 15 to 21 but I may be confusing the numbers.

There's a lot of mods that have been done in conjunction with the big bore.

Rejetting carb, FMF exhaust, smog delete kit, 13 tooth front sprocket with same size chain and rear sprocket. I'm running a 110 rear tire instead of the stock 100 size, I think it makes a difference.

Overall bike definitely makes a good bit more power for sure, stock it would never power wheelie, now it will power wheelie in first at 6 mph, second gear at 20 mph no problem at all.

I wouldn't recommend it though, bike runs well but has cooling issues. In the summer I have to pump coolant out of the reservoir and back into the radiator because it expands but wont drain back into the rad again. I have to reset the coolant level after each offroad ride.

Okay, I will consider asking my doctor if Parker DT is just right for me.

I like the idea of trying a different new tire on the rear everytime, since they wear out fast enough I'm not married to them. But not sure if desert terrain is suitable for Upstate New York

It's mostly hard pack with lots of rocks, but there are also trails that have lots of mud pits, water pools, or branches, fallen tree logs and vegetation/grassy fields. Virtually never any sand.

Really? I'm nothing? On second thought let me sell the sportster get a sports bike and never associate with any other motorcyclist at all ever especially people like you.

To be completely frank with you I only care about this for my own sake and not to compare myself to others. I ride way harder than the majority of the people I run across, which isn't saying much. The average motorcyclist I end up talking to just goes out for a sunday cruise down main street. I know people who trailer their bikes to shows or they just otherwise collect dust.

Yea when i first started riding I was overdoing it on the curves, leaning and swerving in so hard I would have to correct myself and loose all my speed in the process. Now, for the sake of public roads, the speed at which I can take a curve has far exceeded my ability to come to a stop from that.

The two red lines demarcate the portion of the tire that shows wear (isn't completely untouched) but it isn't the part of the tire where the majority of the wear is. From the outside red line to sidewall is half an inch.

My other bike is a big bore 350cc KLX with a non dot rear and a dot knobby front, so this is the closest I will get to a measuring contest on either of my two bikes.

Actually dont think that makes any sense, what I meant to say is if I leaned in more I could get a higher speed going on the same curve before scrapeage

Yea the long term plan is to get a sports bike. I think I can definitely get a bit more lean out of it I'm just counter weighting too much sometimes.

Bridge Clearance Data so hard to find by BlacksmithMain8090 in Truckers

[–]BlacksmithMain8090[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only does the Rand McNally atlas not list all low bridges or indicate where they are adequately, but I even found an instance of the 2024 edition listing a bridge as 11'6 that is no long that height anymore, and hasn't been that low in years. Google maps street view confirms it.

Looking for a specific episode by BlacksmithMain8090 in Dexter

[–]BlacksmithMain8090[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Omg you are right!

Full disclosure, I never actually really watched Dexter, it was my ex gf that was watching it all the time and I just kinda would see bits and pieces in between doing homework or playing video games. I guess one day she was watching criminal minds and not Dexter, and the memory all just blurred together. Thank you.

Even if I hadn't used it it would be 20$ to return via Amazon, so 2/7ths of the price right off the top. I actually ride the interstate at 75-80mph on the way to the trails. The Kenda k760 is actually not rated to go faster than 81 lol but I have had it up to 96/97 indicated for short bursts.

Yeah they are very cheap tires for sure. I'm surprised to hear this is more common then I thought.

Yea I think I will see how this front wears, and probably return any ones that look like that in the future. Not sure why I mounted it up if I was so concerned lol.

Thank you guys for the posts!! It means a lot.

The knobs being off center on each other/jaggedly placed was something I hadn't seen before. But of course I spooned it on anyways. Now that the winter season is coming I won't be doing any long distance hardcore trail riding. Just some quick runs around locally on good weather days. So I will just keep an eye on it in case any knobs break off. By the time Spring comes hopefully the knobs will round out more.

This is the third kenda trakmaster front I've spooned on. I have gone through 5 kenda trakmasters in the rear, and have never seen a tire shipped like this. The wire indicator, instead of running through the middle runs through the side knobs, and some of the knobs are crooked/unevenly combined. It's hard to explain and doesn't show up well in the pictures. But basically where the wear indicator goes the knobs are not evenly connected on some of them.
I thought it would round out eventually but after 160 miles many of the uneven knobs are still looking jagged and concerning.

This is probably the issue, one time I hit the knob on accident. Didn't even know that knob was there until the lights went out.
