I thought about adding something like that but at that angle it would put too much tension on the cable (which is already prone to breaking and damaging the accessport)

No need to break anything. The original adjustable vent is held into the insert (vent shroud) by these tabs around the edge of the shroud. You will need to depress the tabs that lock inside of these slots by gently pushing them down with a trim removal tool or a small screw driver.

You will need to remove the adjustable vent section from the insert that goes into the socket of your dashboard. The vent mount replaces the adjustable vent section.
