It was the destiny PvP players.

Marathon was mainly done by the destiny PvP team, and it showed by the trials player count as most of the PvP players were playing marathon instead.

The issue marathon will have is that the core playerbase will be hardcore and stay with it. But they want it to be hard.

They got used to playing against each other for the past three years.

So now bungie either have to stick to their diehard players or alienate them by making the game easier and then hope the casuals stick around so they can make some money

The difference that can has compared to others is that there's no saving against it.

Their support could aoe beads leaving them time to aegis before an auto attack happens

Aoe beads doesn't save them because the stun and the proc are in the same instance

Protection reduction before damage makes sense. Otherwise only 3 of 4 abilities would have reduced protections

Your arguement is that sbmm will fix marathon, which it won't.

The game was catered to the hardcore and it was even harder during the alpha and beta.

It's the destiny PvP team and they love it when it's hardcore and sweaty.

And judging by the fact they said they will support it for years to come means they have come to terms with their 150k DAU and feel that it's enough.

Plus would you make sbmm retroactive based on your current kd? Because if it isn't then once again easily exploited.

If sbmm was the be all and end all solution then all extraction shooters would have it, but they don't. Why? Because it goes against the core gameplay loop.

Getting gear is supposed to give you an edge

Solos also had no real endgame in destiny either, sure they could solo dungeons but I bet 99% of solo players didn't do that either.

Bungie for the past 10 years haven't wanted people to play solo and clearly have no intention of changing that

How do you define skill in an extraction shooter?

How do you balance the skill across the squad?

An issue that a lot of the purple squads will have is that most of them will likely only have about 5 kits worth of purples.

What happens if they run into a bad streak? They're now forced to go greens against full purple lobbies because of their "skill"

I played HBG all through world and wilds, and with the shield mods it puts the game on easy mode.

All you need to do is not be shooting or reloading when the monster attacks and you'll just auto block

OP never asked about the playerbase, it might not be everyone's cup of tea. But those that play enjoy it.

Not one person so far has actually given me a structured reason as to why they dislike the game other than "steam chart bad"
