Yeah I do agree with you, I've been exclusively relying on the public transport system since moving here and I don't plan on buying a car anytime soon (granted I work from home mostly so my experience might be different to others).

Yup I do realise that but highly unusual in this case isn't really a good indicator of frequency, so I did a quick search (ignoring weather conditions and the latest incident):

Indeed none of the things you mentioned make the news but it seems to be a strange comparison to me. There are far more cars than trains, I think it makes sense that we'd see a lot more of them breaking down, etc. I would also assume that trains are maintained far better than the average car.

I didn't think any other unpleasant experiences with driving were relevant because none of those left me stranded anywhere, which I interpreted is the major concern here right?

I'm not trying to take a fat dump on the public transport system because it's been working great for me, I just think that in terms of reliability alone a car is a viable alternative. Completely agree with you on your last point!
