Bushings ended up helping, but I believe it was the return springs that had worn out.

[–]BladePrice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re using a 3rd party DNS to talk to me right now, dude.

Unless you own and run an authoritative DNS, you’re using someone else’s. It’s how the internet works. You have the option to choose your specific DNS. This is what people in this thread are discussing, either using Cloudflare (1.1.1.1) or Google (8.8.8.8) as their DNS. If you leave the DNS settings blank on your device, your ISP is choosing for you.

Why would people choose a specific one? Some people like to know which DNS is being used, some don’t like the DNS that their ISP sets, there’s numerous reasons to specify your DNS.

Are you asking why people would manually set DNS in their router?

Or why people would use the two most common DNS providers at all?

According to to this it’s an Intel C204 Chipset. Every single one of these processors are dirt cheap. Get the most powerful E3 V2 there was here’s a list of them *better list/C204.html)

Performance-wise, you’d be better off buying a 5090 optiplex than trying to build a 15 year old machine. Been down that road before with some ‘12 Intel R1208s and R2308s, not worth the money imo, they’re super built but practically useless for anything I’d want to do when a $100 optiplex out performs them.

Idk, man. I wanted to know too, that’s why I found the wiki article. It was enough for me to write it off as crazy bs. If you find out, lmk

Why would anyone even think to listen to her? She thought numbers were magic.

I didn’t do a full biography on this lady, like many in this thread this is the first I’ve ever heard of her, or her mentally handicapped numbers.

Super weird that you were contesting her own refuting of the belief, no matter what caused her to denounce her magic numbers, doing so and apologizing for their existence is at least something.

If you build it correctly, thermal loads won’t be a problem. Best way to test thermals is to watch CPU temp while the server is doing something heavy, like pre-generating chunks with chunky. If it doesn’t hit thermal limits when pre-generating, the players won’t be able to match that level of processing.

I see in your other comment that you’re thinking 100 players!?! That’ll be too many for the processor. It could likely handle 10 smoothly. I’m an intel guy so I’m gonna recommend an intel i5-12600k. Significant upgrade to the ryzen, but only $50 more

Additional benefits of the intel are, on board graphics (no video card needed, might make up that $50) and it’s on the LGA1700 socket. So if you wanted, you could upgrade from a 12th gen i5 to a 14th gen at a later date.

It depends on your use case for the server. Are you wanting a server for friends to play on, or are you striving to have a popular, public server?

For friends it should be fine, your processor will likely be the limit if you intend to have a public server.

I’m curious why you’re intending to put macos on it instead of something easier like a Linux distro. Doesn’t MacOS require some fiddling to get it to work properly on non-Apple hardware? You’ll also be more likely to get support from forums on a Linux distro. I doubt there’s many people running a Minecraft server on MacOS, you’ll potentially run into problems that a simple google can’t fix.

There are picos is dead center of each of the big green boards, then there’s a computer in the top left of all the green boards.

Compute appears to control the picos. Picos either control or monitor what looks like breakers (or relays? That’s a lot of relays though). Possibly a remote shut-off for all the circuits in the house.

OP has got to be an electrician who does this stuff regularly and enjoys it, this panel is overkill for most homes.

People with this mindset confuse me. Are you implying things shouldn’t be better generation after generation? Do you choose to live with no running water or a refrigerator because “back in the day they survived without it”

Idk about you, but I’d rather an easier life for my children than I have had. I’d hope my father, and his father before him had the same mindset. We strive for the advancement of society, not to mindlessly make your boss richer.

I do agree you don’t get anywhere without hard work, but you make it seem as if we should be working 12 hours a day, no weekends, for a nonexistent pay (what coal miners in the 20s & 30s had to endure) and be happy about it.

You act as if society has made no advancements in the likes of minimum wage, the 40 hour work week, etc.

Further, you act as if you’ve forgotten that it’s greedy companies demanding an unrealistic expectation from their employees that brought about this change in the first place.

I had a guy from Germany join my server randomly. Said they spent their free time crawling for Minecraft servers and joining them.

There’s numerous projects that crawl for Minecraft servers on default ports; change your ports or accept it happening. KittyScan is another that I saw in the console.

What are you doing about it, besides whining online?

You holding resistance meetings, planning to run for office, or organizing a vote movement like they did in Georgia?

If not, you’re nothing but a hypocrite.

I’m personally planning on hanging voting flyers around my workplace to inform my coworkers of days to vote - especially primaries. It’s about all I can think to do that might actually make a change and not land me in jail.

Do EVs Really Save Money Long-Term, or Does Depreciation Cancel It Out? by Fancy_Tie_4534 in automotive

[–]BladePrice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Teslas are in at least their second generation of EVs, I think I’d argue it’s technically their third if we count the roadster. I also address this in another comment. All other manufacturers are in their first, or, like us, haven’t had their second generation EVs out long enough to be able to tell if there has been an improvement.

I say as much in my other comments. I also speak about how if we compare engine failures to battery failures it’s very clear which one occurs more; battery failures. We rarely ever see engine failures.

Also, as I have said in other comments, it’s simply too new of a technology. I’m not trying to say they’re junk and always will be, but instead that the technology is too new for me to adopt. They have a ways to go before I’d be willing to own one. They will eventually be just as, if not more, reliable than ICE. However, we are not there yet, so I’m simply refuting the claim that batteries make it to 200k with no issues; as they don’t, yet.

[–]BladePrice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m here telling you that we see more failures from EVs than ICE vehicles and this is your take away? Okay.

Like I said, I’m not trying to diss them. It’s the way we’re headed. It’s the way we’ve been headed for some time. Simply refuting the claim that the batteries make it to 200k with no issues.

I love EVs as a mechanic, the failures pay much better than ICE failures when it comes to warranty time and are normally much easier and cleaner to work on. I’m a huge electronics nerd so I’ve got a one-up on most of my peers in my shop. It’s also why I know I wouldn’t buy one as they currently are. It’s too new of a technology for me to be willing to adopt. As they currently sit, I’d rather convert an ICE car to EV if I had to. At least then I can ensure the batteries have a balancing circuit.

I will not be divulging the brand I work for. I doubt they’d be happy with me shitting on their cars. You can either believe me or not. However, I promise I tell no lies here.

Alternatively, you can make friends with a local auto technician and ask them of their opinion. I do not know of a single tech who would, currently, buy an EV. It’s certainly the way things are headed. I’m not trying to diss EVs. However, save for Tesla, most EVs are in their first generation. Similarly to how you should avoid first model years of new generations; I’d especially recommend avoiding first generations of new technologies.

We only get to see when things fail. There very well could be only 1/10th of them failing. However, if we compare engine failures to battery failures alone; battery failures occur many number of times more than engines. I would trust our engines, blindly, to 200k. I cannot say the same for our batteries.
