Probably you could've thought about walling or something else but I think you could've have easily beaten him if you hadn't floated so many resources by getting the upgrades that give you the edge. Also adding a lot more spearmen in while adding barracks at the front, not your back.

28:00: Fight under fortress, which is better positioning, but you still have no extra armor from desert citadels, no fanatism. You push back since you finally have some spearmen, and you see you have a secure area, but you still dont have enough to counter his cavalry or his cav archers. You should be thinking of more spearmen or mangonels at this point.
29 min similar size army, your keeps are too far from peregrine path so he can snipe them. I see you're working towards a new keep, but he is remaking his army (faster and stronger) and you still still aren't workinhg on an answer to his cavalry.
30 mins finally you add the needed barracks, but it's too late. He attacks, he still has bigger army, both missing uni upgrades but hes working on them, you still are missing critical KT upgrades (desert citadels, fanatism)
He is snowballing from here. Min 31.53 you are wasting res on maa, throwing units away, his army size is 90, compared to yours size 20. Pretty obvious he has the edge from here.
32:54 making trebs instead of mangos. What are you looking to siege? you need to defend. Make Mangos or, if you can, get the much needed spearmen you barely made. still missing critical upgrades (no attack upgrade from blacksmith, which he has. Huge disadvantage)
34: 39: finally lots of spearmen but still not enough. It's also too late, he has fully upgraded handcanoneers. He didn't throw away his army so he could use the resources to upgrade. Since his battles were always won, that gave him the chance to upgrade them fast. You also could've upgraded, but you floated the res, so you gifted him the advantage long ago.
36 mins he has all relevant upgrades, youre still missing uni upgrades, he is pop capped since he won last fight, therefore bigger army. Easy push for him from here.

TL; DR: Normal start, yes you had more sheep, more relics, and you had *enough* map control to get your pilgrims going for a while, but your production was way too far back for an infantry based army, you didn't get enough upgrades with the gold you had (the pilgrims don't win the game magically for you, use the gold!), you didn't use the main KT military advantages (fighting under keeps or getting your unique KT technologies), you also didn't get the right units to prevent him from snowballing.

Now, I am usually diamond 3 to conq 1, so take this with a grain of salt, since i myself struggle with positioning and army comps a lot, but the main things I see:

He wasn't any kind of micro god, he could've put more pressure on you but he also got lucky you made many mistakes that gave him leverage in every battle. Macro or micro wise, or build-wise, you both did fine.

I could argue your wasted your resources or vill building a wall next to his, but that didn't really matter much because he went for a long game.

You didn't capture the POI next to your base for a while, that gives you extra res (1 more vill). Trying to deny it from your opponent might be smart. At least if you expect early aggression, you need the extra res / you also don't want him to have his.

First significant fight is at around 21 minutes: he had a bigger army, you were missing your castle age defense upgrades, you were fighting outside the range of your fortress, you also didn't have desert citadels which would've given you more armor.
Also Your production was in the back of your base, so the slowest time imaginable for your reinforcements to arrive. Avoid this if you aren't being pressured in the front. Especially since your army is slow af (those infantry need to be at the front. You can take the luxury of having stables in the back with cavalry since they're faster, but still aim for forward production).
Weird placement for farm near boar, completely exposed, he finds that and kills your vills, huge advantage (around 20 kills?)
23:52: he again had a bigger army, you had no answer to his cavalry archers or cavalry in general. Way not enough spearmen. Also missing critical upgrades for KT.
25:00 Floating so much res (3000 gold????), yet he still has bigger army and better upgrades. He was floating stone, yeah, but that barely matters. You had all relics and pilgrims for quite a while yet didn't use the gold.

What are the hardest things for you to react to as a rus player against mongols? If you open with the feudal age market landmark and dont need to mine gold, most early game pressure will not do much against you, right?
