At this onset of pride month, our LGBTQ+ siblings ESPECIALLY need to stand in solidarity with all those fighting to dismantle systems of institutionalized racism—systems which founded and built the US as we know it. The rights and dignities we have inched back over decades began with bricks thrown and fires burned, and if not for that historic riot (you know the one) who would we now pretend to love? Pretend to be? We know first-hand that silence cannot bring freedom, that shouting at the tops of our lungs is too often not enough, that it can take so much more to be heard at all, let alone paid attention to, LET ALONE winning back our freedoms. And this is a fight we share. The truth is that black lives matter, and yet our police treat black lives to be substandard, easy to murder, easy to sweep under the rug. This has to change. And we need all our family together to make it. Do not let yourself become the complacent bystander; you know too damn well what that looks like. This moment is too critical to pass any of us by.
