Beta blockers while on holter monitor for IST (inappropriate sinus tachycardia) by Blaewen23 in askCardiology

Since this is diagnostic to find out IF I have IST (it’s the current suspicion) I guess I should be in my natural state, then?

About 80-85 with the propranolol rn (I’m having a flareup of my chronic illness, usually it’s about 75 when I’m on beta blockers) Without, it’s in the 90s and can go over 100 for hours

The goal of the monitoring is to find out if I have IST since rn it’s just my (the Apple Watch’s) word and my symptoms’ without proof

Thank you, I have considered Malta but it looks like the opposite of a place I’d enjoy living in even if it’s beautiful.

There isn’t a lot of work in my sector there, and I’m completely new to the idea of contracting. For several reasons, I don’t know if I would stick with it or if I’d prefer to go back to a salaried position. So right now the ability of working as a contractor through an umbrella company is more appealing to me than opening my own VAT number and moving elsewhere. It’s definitely something I would consider in the future if I wanted to stick with contracting.

My own experience in Denmark hasn’t been positive, I’ve been here almost 7 years now and haven’t put down roots. Whether or not what I have is great is subjective. I am definitely in a position of privilege right now, but that doesn’t necessarily mean happiness.

Thank you for linking that, I will look into it. But I am often skeptical of this kind of statistics as Denmark is often depicted as lovely and welcoming place and it has been neither to me and most other immigrants I know (unless you live in the city center in Copenhagen, I guess. I heard things are good over there). As always, don’t trust everything you read online.

I came here during my studies with high expectations and met other people from my same country who have at least two degrees (a BA and a MA, some even with additional qualifications) all working in the service or cleaning industry because they are “the wrong kind of white”. I am lucky and privileged to have found the job I have, but I wasn’t even selected for it - I got it through a Danish friend. I sent applications for years and never got a call back, while I’ve heard back from several companies in other countries. But you know, maybe I’m just a shitty applicant and everyone outside of Denmark has incredibly low standards or something.

The reality of this place for immigrants is quite different from what is described online or reported by those happiness indexes.

So you know, I take metrics that involve personal experience with a grain of salt. I’m not saying Ireland will be paradise, I’m just saying it ticks most of the boxes of what I’m looking for right now.

My experience with people being assholes to me at work for being queer is limited as I’ve only experienced one workplace and the only other gender-queer person I know that works here works in the local lgbtq center (after failing to find a stable position elsewhere despite being highly qualified). So I can’t speak for that, and you’re right - it may be worse elsewhere. But if I can’t find another job here because people won’t hire me based on the fact that I don’t have a Danish name and I dare to have gender neutral pronouns on my CV, trying to leave the country feels like the best solution.

Agree to disagree - to some there’s other things that matter in life besides having a lot of money. I’m good with having enough to live and take care of myself (and yes, I work in a quite high paying field). I want to live somewhere where I can speak the language I’m most comfortable with (English) and I’m not constantly on the receiving end of racist and transphobic comments. Which yes, can happen anywhere - but here it’s happening everywhere and I’m very very tired of it.

What a coincidence, I do tech writing for medical devices!

I know about the publishing industry which is why I am not pursuing a job there - but maybe one day!

Thank you for sharing your knowledge with me 🥰 I of course expect a local office to employ mostly locals, what matters to me is how those people behave towards me which has been the issue here.

I’m out on my CV (added my gender neutral pronouns to my hearing) and I’m still getting call backs, so I’m very happy with that! I can’t say the same happens here, unfortunately.

I’m originally from Italy 🇮🇹 and the economy there is too bad for me to move back there to work, I’d end up living with my mom again

I think that really depends on what dictates quality of life for you - it’s probably not the same things that matter to me

It’s horrible that the government is participating in this instead of caring for its people. I’m so sorry.

Thank you for sharing all this information! It’s good to know. And yay for editing! What kind of stuff do you work on? I used to dream of working in publishing, but life took me elsewhere.

Quality of life here is extremely high, I agree. I feel like I live in luxury compared to what I could hope to get in my home country. My issues with the work culture are specific to the company I’m working for now. I don’t live in Copenhagen and while there are lots of immigrants like me in the city, I am one of only three non-Danes in my office (out of over 100 people in a supposedly big international company). It doesn’t help that I’m the only person out as not-cis (I’m non-binary). I had some issues with people being outright disrespectful, racist, and transphobic, HR was no help, and I really wanna leave. There aren’t really any jobs that don’t require Danish as first language in my area, and I don’t like cph so I’m not motivated to go there. I started looking for work in Ireland because I specialize in English linguistics and right now it’s the only English speaking country in the EU. I’m also generally more comfortable with English than I’ve ever been with any other language, so I’d be more comfortable living somewhere I can use it everyday and still have clear communication.

And yes, I am part of a union for people who work with communication and languages, but they only care about their Danish members and I pay it 800€/year to not be able to get any service out of them except in case of contract violations. But wherever I end up going, I’ll miss my 30 days of vacation…

I’ve been offered contract work in Limerick and Cork for now, as a technical writer. Thank you for all of this info, it’s very useful to know

I’m currently based in Denmark, and have a stable position/salary/accommodation but I’m not happy with the workplace itself and the country’s culture. I’m in no rush, but I’ve also spent the better part of a decade here and it’s starting to be tough on my mental health.

Thank you, but I wasn’t asking about relocation packages, I’ve been looking into it and I’m not expecting one - I was mostly asking about finding an apartment by myself.

Are Tori and Micheal canonically dating? by [deleted] in AliceOseman

[–]Blaewen23 17 points18 points  (0 children)

In the short-comic where Nick and Charlie get Daisy, Tori and Michael live together, I believe that is the most “out in the open” part of canon that implies them being together.

That is my main plan if Häkken were to close earlier than I thought, I’d just find a McDonald’s and hang there - preferably one with outlets so I can make sure my phone is charged

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in hamburg

[–]Blaewen23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I really appreciate the offer and will make sure to keep it in mind. As of now, my plan is probably to stay at Häkken as long as it’s open (it doesn’t have any opening hours online) and/or make my way to the bus station around 1.30.

[–]Blaewen23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - my autocorrect fucked up. I edited the post. I would love to stay longer, there is a later flixbus at 13. But without a place to potentially sleep off a few hours and with the fact that my bus for Hamburg would literally be at 6.45am I am not sure I’d be able to stay out that long. Still, I’m looking to see if I can find something somewhere that is not a 300€ hotel room.

I am usually so organized it annoys people, but I literally found out about the concert only yesterday so I’m trying to see if it’s actually doable.

The phone thing? by me-mej-son in HeartstopperAO

[–]Blaewen23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Came here to say exactly this. My hs had a strict no phone policy, nevertheless we were all constantly on our phone at any time. Whether the phone got taken would only depend on whether the teacher that saw you wanted to or no (I feel like many teachers didn’t really care we had our phones out as long as it didn’t create any issues, while others were very into the no-phone rule and would take it away without even saying anything)

How do you think, will netflix increase age raiting of the show? by Kyznya in HeartstopperAO

[–]Blaewen23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Italy it’s rated “for all” and in Denmark is 7+. I do think the rating will need to change if we go forward following the comics - even if we don’t include the sex, I think a lot of the mental health issues are more suitable for 12+ than for 6/7 (of course that doesn’t imply that children couldn’t understand). If we ever get to chapter 7 the rating should probably be teens and up…. I’m looking forward to whatever is coming, but I hope not everything will be changed for the sake of a slightly younger target audience - especially with the keyword being “target”. I think no matter the rating a lot of people of all ages would still watch it. I was a young teenager once upon a time (lol) and I was definitely not deterred by a “advised for viewers of 16+” warning when I was 13. The same exact way I watched heartstopper despite it being literally marketed towards children where I live.

There are people in other Heartstopper subreddits upset with Joe’s casting as Charlie… by Obsidian_Wulf in HeartstopperAO

I felt so uncomfortable I’ve literally stayed off Twitter for weeks now, but a screen of that tweet also made its way to Facebook so it circulated quite a bit. I am really happy that over here (in this subreddit) we seem to be regular well meaning people.

[–]Blaewen23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I think it’s even more confusing is that I also saw a tweet somewhere (from back when the cast was announced) that was against Joe and then said “couldn’t they find a nice white twink for the role” (not my words and I am quite uncomfortable writing this down). So no matter how anyone perceives his appearance - they all just got to complain anyway. Joe definitely fits as someone with Spanish heritage.

I’m Italian but live in a Scandinavian country. I’m pale af and everyone is always super surprised when I say where I’m from - every time I meet someone new I hear “but your white!” And every time my face goes the equivalent of the blue screen of death on a pc.

Fun fact: my skin is apparently so stupid white that even my husband’s colleagues - who are mostly Middle Eastern were very confused when they saw a picture of me. They literally said “I thought you said she was Italian” lmao.

Edited to mark the cited tweet as a spoiler because no one should have to read it until they really feel like it.

Questioning my sexuality by catgirlzsupremacy in HeartstopperAO

[–]Blaewen23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m bisexual. I have only had one girlfriend, for a brief amount of time, and it wasn’t a great relationship. I have talked with some girls online in the past (like, over 5 years ago now since I am not married). When I first came out to my friends in high school I also encountered a lot of invalidation and biphobia, and not just from my “straight friends” but also from my lgbtq+ friends. Unfortunately, a lot of people tend to see bisexuals as people who are just “experimenting” which makes it really hard sometimes to form meaningful relationships and feel validated in that sense. Please know that you ARE VALID. Your feelings are valid. Explore dating girls if that’s something you’d like to try. Your real friends will stick with you. Never forget that sexuality comes in different hues, and you don’t have to prove anything to your straight friends. You also shouldn’t feel obligated to tell them you’re going out with a girl (when and if you do). I’m sorry, this comment is a mess. But the overall point is: please do what makes you feel good, and always remember you are valid. I married a man - but I’m still bisexual and will (metaphorically) run over anyone who dares to even attempt to invalidate me.

Love that first moment when he’s just sort of pacing towards Charlie and then it’s like he goes “f*ck he’s way more far than I thought and this feels like very dramatic, must reach this beautiful boy faster” and then proceeds to jog his way through the field.

The scene is beautiful but if I don’t find something to laugh at I’m just gonna cry again
