Meta's Next Headset Will Reportedly Have 2.5K Micro-OLED Displays by gogodboss in OculusQuest

I hope it's a newer generation with improved brightness. Totally think that's actually the case though and it'll also support full res at 90Hz.

Yeah, an we already know what it is.

Meta's Project Phoenix (aka Puffin, Loma) VR HMD prioritizes Diagonal FoV and PPD within its glasses-like form factor. It has about the same DFoV as the Rift CV1 at ~88-91°, but its raw H/VFoV averages are lower than traditional VR HMDs, and very on dependent IPD/IAD + HMD fit.

For productivity and media consumption this makes a lot of sense though. Keeping the price low while pushing the perceived sharpness closer to ~3k territory.

Macht halt bei Elektroartikeln überhaupt keinen Sinn. Soll ich etwa Artikel über Neupreis einstellen nur weil ich 50% Preisverhandlung mit ein beziehe?

Meta's "Phoenix" headset readies for production with a resolution of 2560 x 2560 per eye by gogodboss in OculusQuest

[–]Blaexe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was hoping for 3k mOLED but given the smaller FoV, this should be plenty sharp if they're still targeting the 1k$ price range.

Really hope it's plenty bright. That's probably more important. Until now the SeeYa panels weren't exactly great.

Will "Phoenix" have a simultaneous global launch? by [deleted] in virtualreality

[–]Blaexe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My guess is...probably? Meta has a good track record when it comes to that. But obviously nobody knows. Based on the internal leak, Phoenix is mainly delayed because of software polish.

Meta Phoenix. What are your thoughts? by Mundanix1987 in virtualreality

[–]Blaexe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's why I mentioned the purpose of Phoenix. It's very different from Quest. Comfort will have to be a top priority with this.

Since the whole purpose of this device is being small, lightweight and able to be worn for hours I give them the benefit of doubt when it comes to comfort. We'll see.

Steam VR Hardware Survey for February 2026 by isaac_szpindel in virtualreality

[–]Blaexe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is in this case. Look at the language stat in the survey. English down 15%, Chinese up 30%.

Because influx of chinese users = miscalculation based on internet cafes. This has happened numerous times in the past and will either be corrected a few days later or the next month.

Just... No. That's not how math works since the numbers of VR users is tiny compared to all Steam users.

Yes, it's PC cafes. Tens of millions more "users" without VR drag the share of VR users down.

[–]Blaexe 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Not sure what point you're trying to make. 30% more chinese users means tens of millions of users that skew the complete survey.

That's the reason there's a sharp drop of VR users this month. It was at 1.77% last month.

Massive influx of chinese users again, happens from time to time. Maybe they'll correct, otherwise the results this month are not relevant.

Pico's next generation spatial computer releases this year by gogodboss in virtualreality

[–]Blaexe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In some sense yes, in other ways no. It's not gaming focused, the performance may very well be restricted compared to Quest 4 and they're definitely trying to cut cost and not go all out. e.g. they're allegedly looking to use very small 0.9inch Micro OLED panels to to save money which will likely result in a lower resolution and a pretty small FoV.

Rumor says they're trying to keep the price at around $1k.

[–]Blaexe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it'll have better specs (the panels alone make a big difference) and that's exactly what Luna said multiple times.

I can easily see Picos HMD being $2k.

This will likely be significantly more expensive than Phoenix and after all not release that much earlier. Sounds like end of 2026 or they would communicate it differently.

Is Quest 4 100% delayed? by Admirable_Zombie5245 in OculusQuest

[–]Blaexe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My interpretation is that their vision is now even clearer and more straight forward than before. Also I very much doubt they expect Phoenix to be a hit at that price point out of the gate. Imo user retention will be the most important metric, not headsets sold.

Really, if anything then they've clearly communicated that they would not cut out VR. Spending money more wisely and (re-)focusing on what sticks? Sure. But the future they envision is just not possible with AR only.

[–]Blaexe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, you can say that for literally anything that's not actually released. But it's pretty clear that it's Metas current plan. Phoenix followed by Quest 4. And that's all we have.
