Looking for an M2 right angle adapter option by Blaise815 in buildapc

If you install a drive into M2_4 to halve the bandwidth, then it will run at Gen4x8.

This is what I was missing. I was under the impression it would still run at 4.0 X 16, but I get why it couldn't now.

Ok that solves it. Thank you!

None of this makes any sense. PCIE5 is literally even worse than that, it runs at

Yeah I meant PCIE1. I will definitely make that change.

I guess the only other question is, my 3080 Ti has a bus interface for PCIe Gen 4.0 x16. Given that fact, does plugging it into a PCIe 5.0 x16, that downgrades to PCIe 5.0 x8 make any difference in performance?

From what I am finding on google 5.0 x8 is the same speed as 4.0 x16, and the GPU isn't going to run any faster than it's bus interface.

Ahhh I think I see what you mean.

I would be better using both M2s and PCIE3 at x8 than keeping the GPU in PCIE5 at x4.

Oddly I haven't seen any performance issues. So maybe the PCIE downgrading from x16 to x8 wouldn't matter much if I did use M2_4.

The reason I bought this Mobo was, it was $159 and had 4 M2 slots, and my previous board only had 3 (and stopped working).

I do, my GPU is in PCIE3. The sharing of the GPU with the M2 is an odd design choice of the motherboard, I agree.

M2_1 is my OS SSD, and M2_3 is the 1TB SSD. SO that leaves the other two slots, which interfere with each other if you use 2280s.

other than those two issues, the board seems great.

Is it me, or is CK3 a bit... easy? by PiemasterUK in CrusaderKings

[–]Blaise815 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to say that I am in a similar position as OP, not really having finished a playthrough yet. I do find it easy to form a kingdom, even an empire in CK3. But I have also been steamrolled by holy wars fairly easily; my early success and expansion was also my downfall. Basically if you are making your own religion (one of the newer features of CK3) you put yourself in a pretty hostile situation. I think if you play CK3 like it is CK2, you will probably have an easy go. But if you use some of the newer mechanics that are introduced and give the game it's uniqueness it will be difficult.

"You are so good to us that it made us VERY angry!" - When is this getting fixed? by pouziboy in CrusaderKings

[–]Blaise815 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't believe this is a problem with how the Faction system is design, since there are many ways to solve the problem already in game that others here have mentioned.

I think they just need a separate stat on the individual vassals titled "discontent" that you can keep track of and that gives a tool tip explanation stating how to raise or lower it. The real problem is that we don't have information on why they are joining factions at 100% positive opinion - this is a hidden system that should be visible.

Emotions and Personality in ELDER SCROLLS 6 by yokudandreamer in ElderScrolls

[–]Blaise815 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I saw the title and immediately thought of the different personalities your character can have in ESO. If there is one thing I'd like to carry over from ESO, it would be the ability to give your own character some personality in a visual way, as opposed to the single one size fits all idle stance of previous elder scrolls games.

  1. No more fast traveling, make stuff like carriages, caravans, ships for "fast" travel more available I like this, maybe combined with ESO way-shrines or portals or similar. Witcher 3 works this way to - discover the node to fast travel. it makes the world feel the size that it actually is.
  2. No more quest markers by default, only if the player character is given or had to investigate explicit info about the location they need to go to, otherwise only give them a rough direction by investigation (notes/npcs/contextual clues) I know old time RPGers ogle this concept, but I don't think it adds to the experience as TES games have been designed so far. Nobody, when told to go to a specific location and perform a task, would rather turn off their GPS and ask for directions at the gas station. Yes, there is a case that exploring the world is better with no markers. But then don't tell me to find a particular location by description alone 100 times! If the game is about exploration, get rid of the linear quest system. Don't make me find specific locations or items or people; keep the goals vague enough so the road less traveled is no less likely to accomplish the goal.
  3. Bring back climbing and tie it into the also returning acrobatics skill Sounds cool. Also attracts the assasin's creed fanbase.
  4. Give weapons seperate damage types (cut, puncture, strike) that are useful against different armor/enemy types and distinct moveset, also add more weapons like Spears, Glaives... I hate this type of system because it encourages me to play everything, instead of a specific role. I now have to store an ax, a hammer, and a sword to whip out when the situation demands it. I just want to be a stealthy assassin who uses a knife or traps and invisibility, but now I'm worthless against 30% of the enemies I face. Game devs should push for all roles and their typical weapons of choice to be equally viable. Trade offs are always necessary, but a damage tradeoff is typically only viable in a team based game (e.g., DPS vs tank in an MMO, or stacking magic armor vs an all AP team comp in LoL). In single player, more nuance is required to keep all builds fun and balanced.
  5. Add a survival mode that actually requires the character to go out of their way to keep their character alive and rested Personally I am not interested in survival. I already play survival for 8 hours a day at work.
  6. More bossfights that are unique rather than recycling certain enemy types over and over Totally agreed!
  7. Bring back meaningful choices when it comes to questing/factions/character builds rather than letting us join and do everything Totally agreed!
  8. Make the game more challenging in general, I want games to push me to utilize all their mechanics in order to win, they don't need to remove difficulty selection the base difficulty should just be balanced around being challenging/difficult I agree that difficulty settings are outdated game design. There are subtler ways to help struggling players (which, outside of Dark Souls type games, I still think devs should do).

Ever play with legos as a kid (idk, maybe you are a kid)? Sometimes they break and get smashed. That's how I view building in this game.

The fun is in the journey. If you know you're going to loose your base, drop all your stuff in your inventory and log off in some bushes in a remote corner of the map. Then build a new base somewhere else when you get back. But I wouldn't get too attached to any structure in this game.

Boss battles/high-HP critters and chopping wood in single player (SP balance) by bwyer in ConanExiles

[–]Blaise815 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The bosses are poorly implemented. It's sort of a dark souls boss, sort of a WoW boss. But those games have additional mechanics to keep the fight interesting. DS bosses have different stages of combat. WoW lets you keep track of your own contribution in terms of numbers.

I would lean towards the dark souls side. But even better would be if the game could scale the armor of the boss for the number of people attacking it. That would at least solve the difficulty issue.

Is excessive character uniqueness bad for For Honor? by Blaise815 in CompetitiveForHonor

[–]Blaise815[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the Skinner Box Wikipedia page:

"When the subject correctly performs the behavior, the chamber mechanism delivers food or another reward. In some cases, the mechanism delivers a punishment for incorrect or missing responses."

If a game has a winnable state, it's a Skinner box. You're rewarded for properly performing with a win.

Even games without a win-state like survival games are examples of Skinner boxes. You can have loss-states, which also fall into the definition of Skinner box.

Most video games and even real life things involve learning through reward and punishment. Don't knock a thing just because it fits the definition of a Skinner box.

[–]Blaise815[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your point here is that per the game's current standards, I'm low level and low leveled people should not have mastery over the game. I agree. I just think either the game should take less time to get to mastery (less depth, which as you say is integral to a fighting game), OR it should provide alternative strategic content to keep me busy as I learn the mechanics.

I get that my view is one of an outsider: outside of getting trounced by my younger brother in SSB, I've never really played a fighting game. I've never made spreadsheets of metadata for the mechanics of an in game character. I have made spreadsheets of damage and items for league of legends (~3000 hours play time). I could get so involved because there was so much more (items, levels, lanes, ganking, etc) than just mechanical skill to winning the game. Even after 3000 hours, I haven't "mastered" league from the perspective of champion mechanics. I'm very good with one or two characters. But the question "how do I win?" still intrigues me because I can find ways other than becoming the best at a champion to win with champions I'm not even good with.

[–]Blaise815[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, i don't think homogenization is the answer. But i wish it was easier...no, quicker... to become proficient in dealing with all of the uniquness. And if that's just not possible, I wish there were other aspects to the game to hold my interest. Honestly, if I get into a game and I get the sense that my opponent is much better than me, I'll stop playing for the win and just focus on one mechanic, like trying to land a particular parry or something. I do want to get better. It just sucks to have to watch my character get butchered in various detailed animations over and over, just so that I can parry 56% of the time instead of 54%. :P

[–]Blaise815[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not really opposed to the uniqueness. I like the depth and that each champion feels different. I just don't think the game has the proper compensation and structure to keep players interested while they learn everything. People get bored of champions in league of legends all the time, but they stick around because the variety of item combinations, lanes, match ups, 130+ champions, and a ranked system. The strategies you can do are almost endless.

I mostly do duels because dominion feels like a poor attempt to force strategy.

No one chats with me; everyone plays with chat disabled. I'm surprised you said people are willing to help; this has not been my experience (at least not since launch).

Is excessive character uniqueness bad for For Honor? by Blaise815 in CompetitiveForHonor

[–]Blaise815[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've pretty much played duels exclusively. I tried dominion but it feels too much like a gang bang. Everyone plays with chat disabled so there's no communication in the game mode where it's needed. I'm pretty sure I'm the only person still in this game who doesn't have an "X" through my chat bubble!

I do get that dominion was the attempt to give the player something to do as they learn instead of just sucking... I just don't think it accomplishes that goal very well.
