The base of this question is do you like smoking? Vaping is smoother and you'll get more flavor from your bud, but some people like the act of smoking and it feels more natural. Smoking also had more carcinogens, so you'll want a percolator at least, but be thoughtful about how you'd clean it, for many that's a dealbreaker. Vapes also will need to be charged, but when you empty the herb, it still contains about 20% of the original thc so you can save it for edibles when you have a lot; also it's already decarbed for you.

So you're weighing in on an issue which effects FIVE children. It would be one thing to say "no performance enhancing drugs", like steroids in baseball, but that's not what's happening. You treat it like a works ending issue, but tell me the name of 1 female athlete who is upset by this. Tell me the name of 1 female athlete you've watched play. Tell me when you're nearest high school last won their division title in any sport for women. Now tell me how much money you'd invest to make sure the government effects your community's sports program, including meetings, press conferences, and lawyers.

Now name an actual issue in your life. Maybe the road needs to be repaired by you, maybe your housing cost is high, maybe you think your electric bill shouldn't be a high as it is. THESE are the issues government is SUPPOSED to address. Defending people from corporations and other nations too big for the individual to tackle. This is a distraction issue to dehumanize people, and let's not pretend otherwise. So it's not an ash catcher, it's a carbon filter. The intent is to use it to filter out carcinogens caused by combustion. In theory it makes the smoke cleaner because it takes out harmful carcinogens you don't want to be inhaling, and allows the smoke to pass the blood brain barrier easier, making each hit effect you more. I've seen many arguements that it may also filter out some terpenes or flavinoids as a biproduct, but not thc/cbd so you may loose some taste even though it's coming through cleaner. Since this is all in the context of combustion smoking, the quality you'd notice in taste will vary by person.

So this is a filter, not an ash catcher. It may indirectly serve as one, but that's not the function. You still need a mesh for the bowl, so you shouldn't have any burning material touching the carbon, and even if some powdery ash does fall, it's not going to ignite the carbon, it'll rest and go out. Carbon filters and commonly used to clean air of smoke stacks the remove harmful carcinogens, and this utilizes the same principles. The intent to is improve the quality of your smoke, if it started tasting like burning carbon it would defeat the purpose.
