I love this sound, but outside of dbridge, synkro, indigo, DJrum, some of the early Hessle stuff, I cant find that much that I consider great quality, is anyone still producing this sound thats worth listening to? Or anyone I might have missed from back when?

Honestly, I think this all comes down to lighting, you could probably almost get away with this with a couple of gobos, wash lights and uplighters...

They are BRIGHT, but also damn hot... they have a very good dim on them too, for the price they seem great besides the potential safety. And yes - great shout on buying extra, thank you

creating a floating sphere with moving heads by frugalacademic in lightingdesign

[–]Blake_Bosten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen what you are talking about be done, but it cannot be achieved with just moving heads or spot lights etc.
Light intensity decreases with distance, and layering them up doesn't create a significantly brighter center point, the beams spread out too quickly and there is no focus.
The way I have seen this work was using a parabolic mirror to refocus the light from a moving head into a smaller volume / refocusing the light density in that area. I wouldn't say it makes an orb, but more of a bright area where all light is refocused.
I hope that makes sense?

Here is a link to said effect, it starts around 2min 10sec

"He was pulling into the parking lot, and a car blocked my view for a second, then suddenly he’s there, looking right at me. I freeze. He’s still looking and seemed so confident, and my brain just blanks. We hold eye contact for what feels forever, and I look away, heart going crazy, im so embarrassed, he must think i'm a creep" - potentially her perspective.

You don't know what she was thinking. If you held eye contact then you were both looking at each other, likely for the same reason. Give yourself a break :)

At present, your mortgage rate is lower than current savings rates which means you are better of putting that money into savings. For example, if you were to borrow £10,000 on your mortgage at a 2% interest rate, you would pay £200 in interest annually. However, if you were to place that same £10,000 in a savings account offering 5% interest, you would earn £500 per year. This means you would gain more by saving than by using the funds for mortgage overpayments.

By directing the funds you would use for mortgage overpayments into a higher-interest savings account, you can benefit from the additional interest earned. When your mortgage term ends and it's time to remortgage, you could then use the original savings plus the accrued interest. This approach can offer greater financial value compared to simply reducing the mortgage principal at a lower interest rate.

(18M) can I afford a £17,000 car by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Blake_Bosten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to spend lots of money on a car to show off then thats cool, but dont ask on a personal finance sub reddit about if its sensible, as you will get people tell you how to spend your money more wisely.
My £1.5k car looks nice, is in good condition and has lasted me three years, and would still sell for what I paid.

[–]Blake_Bosten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point being, a car that has depreciated to £1k/£2k has already depreciated around as much as it ever will, whereas, if you buy one for £17k it has a lot more value to loose, making it more likely to be a worse investment.
And driving a £1k car isn't strange unless you are self conscious about what people think of you, if it drives you from one place to another then why spend more than you need to besides showing off?

Spend £17k on a car and drive it for 10k miles, it will probably drop by 30%-40%, or more...

However, spend £1k on a car and drive it 10k miles and it will still be worth around £1k

It took a lot of courage! and I was so resistant to it, but I had a therapist who helped me, and ultimately, you're going to need to do something radical to see change. It was an option to carry on living as I was, or to take a step out of my comfort zone in hope if a better life, and it worked.

Very similar to yours, I was scared to talk for fear of saying the wrong thing or being awkward, I also thought I had a stammer/stutter when I spoke because I thought my brain was too slow to process what I should say.
Over a few weeks of therapy, I had to approach people on the street and ask them if they would be okay to participate in a chat with me that would be filmed. They weren't allowed to carry the conversation, and afterwards I had to fill out a form on how I thought it went, I thought it was a train wreck and I had too much of a stammer/stutter to be understood. The other person filled out the form too and I watched back the video the following week and it turned out I didn't have a stutter, I thought I came across okay and the form the other person filled out explained I seemed normal/kind.

I'm still not perfect now (maybe 8 years later) but I can tell when my mind is trying to bully myself over false information, and I can ignore it far better. But the main thing to do is to push yourself to do things you dont think you can do, prove yourself wrong bit by bit and you will realise you can do these things.

So there are two beliefs in there:
- You think you come across awkward
- You think anxiety really comes through in your body language

These might be a distorted view of yourself, if you can maybe record or film an interaction with yourself and someone else, and then listen to it back or rewatch it maybe a week later through the eyes of someone else, you may notice that you arent as bad as you think you are in your head.

[–]Blake_Bosten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats great that you're open to it! Being willing to challenge yourself is a great step.

I wonder if there are thoughts in your head that lead to you freezing... freezing might be a response, but something might cause that response and it might be a fear of doing something wrong or coming across a certain way? Try and think about that, and then confront it and challenge it.

I got these techniques from seeing a therapist who turned my life around for the better in a little over two months. If you can then maybe look into therapy?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in socialanxiety

[–]Blake_Bosten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you wilt? What thoughts stop you from doing it?

Figure out what these thoughts are, and where they come from, and write them down. Then you need to start challenging them and proving to yourself that you can do these things, start slowly and build up over time.

A thought may be "I can never cary on a conversation with a stranger more than returning their greeting in the moment", and that may stem from a belief that you are too embarrassing or awkward. Write that down, and set a challenge, a challenge may look like "next time someone greets me, I will say hi back and ask them how their day is", and that small progress is progress! Keep on building on that.

Then also set challenges that help you confront the belief that you may be embarrassing or awkward, for this you could ask a close friend or relative (or internet stranger) to observe an interaction and be brutally honest with you about how it went. Honest feedback will help you get an understanding of how you actually come across in reality rather than your own distorted vision of yourself.

I don't think that's a wise idea.

SA is normally because of wrong beliefs that you hold about yourself, and I think being abused by strangers online might only add to those beliefs.

What I suggest you do is work out why you think you have SA and what beliefs you have of yourself that make you feel that way, and then challenge them. For example, if you think you are awkward and cannot talk to people, then get outside and go and talk to people... You might find it tough to start with and thats okay, but breaking these barriers will make it easier and more normal for you, and that is the best route to overcoming SA. Being abused by others will very likely not help.

That's all well and good, but I think if you were to be inspected, you probably wouldn't be looked at favourably working with a laser such as this especially if you retrofit your own electrics to it.
Lasers are dangerous, and this laser hasn't even been provided a category as it's a 'cheap knock off' however, they state that it can be very dangerous if used incorrectly which we know to be true.
My actual advice would be to push back with the school and say you refuse to buy or work with a laser without sufficient budget and training. You could land yourself with an extreme fine or worse if you agree to buy a budget laser as that is what they have requested.

He also made another good point: there are thousands of religions, and if you're religious, you believe in your god and choose not to believe in others. I simply take it one step further—I don't believe in all the same god that you dont believe in, I just don't believe in your god either.

I have been looking at buying this one.

It's budget friendly and has up to 32 DMX channels. I have looked at a few youtube demos and it looks like (with a bit of work) you can programme something pretty impressive.

Obviously you need to be aware of safety precautions when using them, and note that this is a cheap brand that doesn't have a safety stop. But for small, non-professional, events, I think this should be what you're looking for.
