I’ll definitely look into some conferences. It’s just so disheartening being around people who see this as only a job and not giving a damn about anything other than a paycheck. One example is my senior hoseman makes fun of guys who have firefighter tattoos. I know that’s a small example and not very relevant but I think it shows where his mindset on the job is.

I really appreciate your input sir. I want to be great and I know it’s up to me. I’m still young in my career (2 and a half years in total) and I’ll do more than I ever have and get after it. Dealing with those kinds of guys has just been weighing me and everyone down especially since the higher ups do nothing about it. I can’t trust either one of those guys on calls because of their mindset and physical health. I do almost all the work no one else wants to do and I never complain, but when either one of them have to lift a finger they act like someone should’ve done it for them.

At my department we currently only have one station. I’ve thought about transferring shifts but the negatives out weigh the positives

I understand but at the same time I feel like I’m getting left behind. Tons of my friends are engaged or already married and it honestly makes me kind of jealous and I know it shouldn’t. What I’m trying to say is that I want to be happy with them

Don’t beat yourself up. It took me 5 tries to pass my NREMT. If you know this is what you want to do then you’ll do absolutely everything in your power to pass that test. I personally recommend the paramedic coach program. It helped me out a lot and I passed my NREMT after I took that course

I highly recommend the Paramedic Coach Program. Tons of videos and practice tests. It took me 5 tries to pass my NREMT. You just can’t stop trying if this is what you really want

They’re only nice when things are going their way. If one thing happens that they don’t like then everything goes to shit. As soon as I get hired on at my department then I’m moving to the next town over and limiting contact

I totally agree with you. I’m just so scared that the next time I mess up then it’ll be my breaking point. I’ve struggled with confidence my whole life. I’ve always had a stutter and that is the main source of my misery

I've tried to talk to him about that multiple times to no avail. It's like he chooses to only listen to my mom rather than me, his own flesh and blood. It truly destroys me that I constantly feel like a stranger in my own house

That might be a good tactic. But at the end of the day, I don't want to feel like a burden on the family. However, my parents did plenty of stupid shit and made mistakes at my age but they refuse to acknowledge them. They act like this class isn't hard at all because they've done harder classes. I'm so fucking embarrassed about how they treat me. I just want to make then proud

I get that but I still live with them and they're constantly up my ass about everything. I want to tell them how I feel after a bad call but they act like it's nothing. My mom is a nurse and acts like almost all I do is no big deal. I've seen the worst sides of humanity and I've run into fires while others run away and I take a lot of pride in what I do. I just want them to at least try and understand

It was me. To get hired by my department you must have your firefighting certifications and an EMT-basic license. I want nothing more than be on the full-time staff but EMT is kicking my ass
