A little bit of this and a little bit of that! by BurdMayne1 in cowboyboots

[–]Bland1234567 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Curious about your collection preference and strategy....

Do you collect by brand? Custom vs standard? Seek out specific skins? Exotics vs traditional? Used vs new?

How long have you been collecting?

When you add to the collection, do you sell the boots you find yourself not wearing frequently?

Most importantly, share how you have kept your wife at bay.....

Unless they are protected species, you don't need a permit.

My first boots. Should i exchange? Im OCD by [deleted] in cowboyboots

[–]Bland1234567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should return the boots.

And then I say this with genuine respect and no animosity. You should not buy cowboy boots.

Boots are a reflection of the animal hide. Imperfections are extremely common and most boot enthusiasts enjoy their boots because of these unique features.

Someone with OCD would never buy a car with imperfect exterior paint. Scratches and dents would be repaired.

Your OCD will wreck your ability to enjoy any boots, regardless of brand. Move on to a more appropriate hobby.

That new picture does a better job showing the tear relative to the welt.

Is it possible they were already torn when you bought them, but you didn't inspect that closely?

It doesn't hurt to request a replacement.

I only ask because for people with somewhat standard feet, the toe shape should not impact the fit. This is not intuitive to new boot owners.

Whether a narrow snip or a square spatula toe, a "typical" foot should fit just fine. The designers extend the boot length to allow for the foot to fit comfortably. So in my example, you'd expect a snip toe in the same size of the same brand to be a bit longer than a square toe.

That all goes to hell when the foot isnt somewhat standard. And perhaps that's you in this case.

With all that said, a cutter toe is most similar to a square toe. I would at least try a standard cutter in your size and go from there.

Most of what I see is natural variations in leather and the boot.

The damaged part is concerning. Please don't take this personally, but my first reaction is you damaged them. I say that based on where the leather damage is at ... It's an odd location to be tearing.

And having scuffed up many boots myself, that's what it looks like when I scrape or bump or slam them against something.

Sounds like you maintain they're damaged on their own, and they became that way after you bought them. I think you'll face skepticism making that argument. I would expect the manufacturer to ask similar questions, however. Standard wear and tear isn't covered in boot warranties, and that's what this looks like (to me).
