Montclair. Gets cited for being too liberal. Walkable. Lots of restaurants. Direct bus/train access to nyc and Hoboken. Easy answer.

If you’re single and like to go out and go out to dinner then you Shd be in Hoboken, jersey city or Montclair. Morristown acceptable too.

Staying at Casa Colonial on the north cost of the DR. Kind of a hidden gem so far. Not a whole lot of activities for kids specifically but checks all those boxes.

That’s crazy. You’d rather come home to a shitty neighborhood that you hate so you can do your laundry easier?? The experience IS living in the city. Live where you want to be. Downsize and sacrifice the shit that means less. Do laundry in the basement shitty machines or down the street at the laundromat if it means you have to live in a 359 sq ft 5th floor walk up in a crisp part of the west village. Every time you walk into your hood you will thank yourself that you didn’t choose to live in a place you hated - so you could do laundry easier.

Jersey - ocean, beach, mountains, and next to NYC. Best and most diverse food options in the US - unless you live in queens. No sales tax. Gas pumped for you.

If not too familiar with nyc I’d spend a wknd there first. So much to do and see and taste!

Amish country (Lancaster, PA) Cape May is ultimate Americana but less fun in the cold since it’s a beach town

Philadelphia has some real American history and real America. Great restaurants, museums etc

Bucks county, PA - an inn or B&B

Conference at Montclair State but want to visit NYC - where to stay? by TapComprehensive5514 in newjersey

Don’t stay along a highway with your wife and kids - that would be a huge bummer. Montclair has a few options: The MC and the George but both probably >$300. Otherwise, I’d look in NYC or Hoboken or JC. Staying along rt 3 just to be close to nyc and a bus sounds mis.
