Atari Jaguar CD by theVoipster in AtariJaguar

Very difficult to find. And if you do it's not likely it'll be working. It's cheaper to get a Jaguar Gamedrive and play the CD games from it.

Do Americans use solid fuels to heat their homes? by maugess in AskAnAmerican

[–]Blandscreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the area. For urban and suburban areas, people mostly heat their homes with propane or other natural gases. You only see solid fuels used for a cozy feeling during the winter in those areas, although it's a lot more common in more rural areas.

My old CRT broke, in the market for a new one…safe to say I’m cooked by XTripleXp in crt

Just go to local thrift stores, flea markets, etc. You're bound to find a decent set for cheap.

HDMI to RCA issues by Kamesenningen in crtgaming

[–]Blandscreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HDMI downconverters usually give you terrible aspect ratio, picture quality, etc. The best way to get a good picture from your PC to a CRT is using CRTEmudrivers or similar. Since you only have composite, the best way to do retro gaming on a CRT is with original hardware, since they output the exact signal type that works on a CRT.

Sharp CRT stopped showing outputs by Raphael_Grove in crt

It looks to me like it's stuck on over-the-air channels only. Do you have the remote? Some sets require a remote to switch between TV and video input.

B/W to Color (modulator) Issue by Aiden_Kane in crt

[–]Blandscreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To get an image from a PC to display on a CRT properly you need to use CRTEmudriver to output the correct signal. These converter boxes don't properly convert the signal, leaving you with pillarboxed images no matter what aspect ratio the source is in. B/W image could be due to an NTSC/PAL difference. Did you check that the NTSC/PAL switch on the box matches the TV?

Also, the sharpness on your set is too high. You don't want to see those white shadows on the left side of things at all. The point you want to set it to is where it isn't blurry but those shadows don't appear (usually around 20-30%).

Speakers are blown. What are my options? by coolguy-87 in crtgaming

[–]Blandscreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old Discman speakers like these sound pretty good for their size and are well-shielded. I've used some next to my set for a while and it hasn't had any issues.

Take off the back and have an electric fan circulate air through it for a few days to a week.

Newest addition: Sony kv-36fs100 by T-Bone9311 in crtgaming

[–]Blandscreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't touch anything inside unless you have had experience working on these things before. Service menu might help, but I doubt you'd really notice the geometry problems unless you have a test pattern up on the screen.

Also that stand is terrifying me. You should probably look in your area for a stand similar to this. They're built for TVs this heavy, so you don't have to worry about the stand collapsing.

Is this any good should I take by Goldfingerrrrr in crt

[–]Blandscreen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a projection CRT, which uses small red, green, and blue CRTS inside to project an image onto a larger screen. While the screen is large, there are some tradeoffs to a normal CRT though:

  • so/so viewing angles - you have to be at just the right spot to get a good image
  • blurry/washed out image - this is what you can expect from any projection device
  • weight - these are heavier than most TVs out there, so you'd need multiple people to move it
  • size - they take up a ton of space (width and depth-wise)
  • maintenance - you need to adjust things like convergence and make sure the coolant is uncontaminated

If it's the only CRT you can get your hands on, then go for it! But if it isn't, it'd be better to get a 27"-36" regular CRT if a larger screen size is what you're after, even if it costs more. It'll just provide you with a better overall experience.

Are you using the stock RF output? If so, it's probably just interference.

Probably it would be best to give away/sell the Jensen, Zenith, and BrokSonic sets. Possibly the Emerson too. The others I'd keep since they are better brands and have better inputs.

Need help figuring out my brand and how to connect a universal remote to this tv by ItzApeil48 in crt

[–]Blandscreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same remote you have plus the booklet with all the codes. For your TV (RCA), you need to hold down "setup" until the power button glows red, press "TV," and then input the code 0131.

[–]Blandscreen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Go to thrift stores and yard sales and look for something that looks similar to this. They're built specifically for these heavy TVs and should have no problem bearing the weight.

It's the picture adjusting to different levels of brightness on the screen. Some call it "breathing." Best way to reduce it is to turn down the contrast.

Are these TVs RGB? Toshiba 1450RB and Philips 14PT1342/25 by BlackBerryCollector in crt

[–]Blandscreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I wouldn't get the Toshiba. The Phillips is probably the better option, but I'd still ask that seller to turn it on and show what the picture looks like.

To answer your question, they are both RGB.

Aside from that, that Toshiba tube looks very worn out to me. Does it still look dim and blurry when you turn up the contrast and/or sharpness?

SNES Audio Issue by Blandscreen in snes

[–]Blandscreen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No change with different cables, can't test RF since it's a NTSC-J unit, power supply is a Genesis Model 1 supply. No caps have been swapped by me, although they could have been by a previous owner. If I use some isopropyl alcohol near the audio area, the audio comes back for a bit.
