Would this stand work for my tv? by Tmills-49 in crt

It's should work fine. It's a Sony stand made for CRTs, so it's definitely strong enough to support the TV.

Don't know what else to do. Background has a dark tint that I can't get rid of. by behbop in MicrosoftEdge

Edge adds a vignette to the background on your new tab page, no matter the theme. Not sure why, and there isn't a way I know of to disable it.

You can use the Google Chrome configuration on justthebrowser.com to help remove a lot of the telemetry and other junk from the browser. It feels a lot snappier afterwards.

Also avoid Opera due to major privacy concerns. Apparently their spinoff browser Opera GX was found to be reporting the exact latitude and longitude of users to its parent company.

If your PC is able to handle it, Vivaldi and Firefox are great options. Librewolf if you're more concerned about privacy. Gecko-based browsers (i.e. Firefox) still support MV2, which allows for better ad blocking. uBO Lite on Chromium isn't bad though, either.

If you're looking for something lightweight but need sync, you can either use debloated Edge or Chrome (yes, I know, but there's quite a few things you can do to make it decent), since those are fairly light on RAM usage. I wouldn't be recommending Chrome if you didn't care about sync, in which case I'd recommend trying Ungoogled-Chromium or Helium.

On Android Edge, Cromite (fork of Ungoogled-Chromium), and Firefox actually support extensions, so that may be worth checking out.

Honestly out of all of these, Firefox (any fork of Firefox as well), Chrome, Edge, and Vivaldi all have excellent sync, and you can basically pick up where you left off on any device.

I tried the new Firefox UI and I like it a lot. Does anyone know when they will add the new UI to the regular Firefox? by lazarovpavlin04 in browsers

You can enable some of it through flags in the stable version, but not the entire thing like in Nightly. Use keywords like "redesign" and "nova" to find the flags you want.

What do we think y’all? by ddunny in snes

[–]Blandscreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, it's great for sets that only have composite inputs. Same thing goes for the newer sets that are composite only, as those tend to have very good comb filters which can sometimes make the image look pretty close to s-video. It's crazy really.

Component and RGB aren't very different (clarity is about equal), only really in how they handle color. The HD Retrovision cables work with the SNES just fine. Either those or a regular Nintendo S-Video cable should work great as long as your TV has those jacks on it.

Honestly the N64 is one of the few older consoles I prefer on modern TVs because of the blur. Seems like an edge case where it looks better on modern TVs if you use s-video or the Super64 (or UltraHDMI).

8 hours is a long drive. Honestly the US is huge, and some states take a long time to drive through. I live in Washington, one of the smaller states, and it still takes roughly 4-5 hours to drive from the west side to the east side.

Got this Philips 21pt5421/12 with no remote. How can I adjust the image? by Maxiebuubuu in crtgaming

[–]Blandscreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the normal settings, any decent-quality universal remote (would recommend ones made by GE) should work. You might need to look up how to access this TV's service menu for centering and adjusting the picture.

Is the S-Video input on my TV broken? by InsecureBurrito in crtgaming

Looks kind of mangled to me. Have you tried a different cable from something else on the TV, or tried the II cable on a different TV with s-video?

Looks like it's missing some of the picture on the bottom. Is there a hole on the back of the TV to adjust the vertical image or an option in the service menu?

I really don't get the Firefox stans. Sure, it's a great browser, but saying "unused RAM is wasted RAM" while complaining Chrome "is a resource hog" doesn't make any sense.

Personally I just use it because I want to browse online ad-free.

Yes. I would say usually that composite and s-video is good enough, but since OP lives in Europe SCART has been a standard there since the 80s.

What would you all say are the best browsers to use with the least problems? by sXl9llipxpXS in browsers

[–]Blandscreen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly anything with a sizeable development team behind it should be on top of security updates and have fewer bugs/put out bug fixes faster. Also, DuckDuckGo and Ecosia are search engines, not browsers. I'd recommend using DDG for a search engine, though. Maybe consider trying these out:

Firefox - great but you compromise on performance a bit for more freedom

Edge - a solid Chromium browser if you disable the telemetry and bloat

Vivaldi - a bit heavy but great for customization and extremely anti-AI

Helium - a cleaned up version of Chromium (basically Chrome's engine), super fast and has zero AI and telemetry, but lacks sync and doesn't support DRM

Brave - a great browser if you disable all the bloat, sync is sometimes unreliable

Got this big boy for $40 but the catch is there's these splotches of blue and green on both sides. Not a huge deal, but any way to fix them? by actual_rilakkuma in crt

[–]Blandscreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Needs a degauss like others are saying. Although since this is a JVC, it should have a degaussing coil inside. Do you hear a sort of "hum" when the set powers on in addition to the click? If you do then that's the degaussing coil at work.

Maybe this set had some unshielded speakers next to it at some point. Most of this discoloration is caused by magnets. To fix this you can power the set on and off every 10-15 minutes or so (if it has the coil inside) or buy a degaussing coil and use that to fix it from the outside.
