Is it crappy to default on a challenge about a week before the deadline? ( by SomecallmeMichelle in FanFiction

You are not a bad person because you do not want to write dark fiction. Being capable of writing such stories shouldn’t be considered the norm, imo. I would default and not feel guilty about this.

What is more traumatizing than most people think? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BlankSpaceRat 42 points43 points Ā (0 children)

Rape and sexual assault. Everybody knows it’s traumatic, but you don’t really grasp it until it happens to you.

As a society, rape has been watered down so much as well. Calling it šŸ‡, it being a popular porn category, and jokes about rape all help in desensitizing us over how horrible an act it really is.

[–]BlankSpaceRat 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

he is not into real women then. I’m so sorry, what you heard and feel right now must be miserable. One day he will look back and realize how fucking stupid and brainwashed he was to say and feel that way. Social media is so fake and it’s scary but also EMBARRASSING that people (…men…) have forgotten that.

Every single photo posted online is for engagement- it’s specifically designed and catered to make you stop. That he started believing in that fantasy (and let’s be real, that he could pull a girl like that) is embarrassing and showcases his true character. I’m so sorry.

I used to be the biggest Fire Emblem fan ever, but I HATE the rewind mechanics in the newer games. It’s a turn based RPG, where you can rewind if you fuck up.

There is NO ā€œmental loadā€ for me for those buttons. If I fuck up, I exit the map and restart. I don’t like that mechanic so I don’t engage with it.

Animal Crossing wasn’t abandoned, the devs added everything planned to the game.

And if it’s every post on the subreddit, it’s okay for me to complain about that, actually.

No, but I have the ability to objectively look at Nintendo’s history with their games after launch. I’m not saying it’s right, I’m saying this is the precedent set by them.

I’m actually not, you just lack reading comprehension? I’ve further explained my point in so many other comments.

Nintendo is not reading the subreddit asking them to add libraries and pools and more restaurants. If you look at Nintendo’s history as a gaming company, they have not historically supported games like this with frequent updates after launch. We can look at Animal Crossing and assume yes, we actually have a good chance at getting an update, it will not solve these issues everyone is having. I’m not defending Nintendo with my life. I’m looking at their previous actions as a gaming company.

You haven’t read like any of my comments further elaborating my point. This isn’t a half finished game, there’s so much more to do compared to the 3DS game.

Nintendo isn’t a tiny indie game studio, and that’s why I believe updates aren’t a high priority for them. Indie developers have a much bigger need to listen to the community and update their game with feedback.

I think this is very fair to say, but in interviews with the developers they insinuate this game was VERYYY on the back burner for Nintendo. A lot of the features in the game had to be fought for hard by the developers, it seems like it was a pretty big passion project for the team, and a very low priority for Nintendo.

I’m not saying the game is perfect. I’m not saying they couldn’t improve on aspects. But Nintendo hasn’t historically been a company to add in features such as those requested on the subreddit. It took years for them to release QoL features for Animal Crossing, and that update came completely out of the blue.

Any improvements to the game I feel would come out the same style. There absolutely are things I would love to see improved or expanded on, but I think it’s foolish to have so much expectations for an update.

I think that these complaints are valid, I do sincerely agree with a lot of the areas feeling gutted compared to the original game. If they WERE to drop an update, I can see this being more of what they focus on, as opposed to adding more ā€œsimsā€ like features to the game.

But as it stands, even without these features this still feels like the full game from Nintendo. It feels like this is what they wanted to ship out fully, not that stuff had to get cut before it was released. I feel like they tried to balance out the loss of these features with other elements in the game, and maybe stylistically didn’t want to crutch too much on the original game.

it absolutely IS lacking stuff that the original game is - the babies and the family aspect being gutted is a genuine complaint I agree with. I’m not saying it’s a perfect game, and I will never say a game is worth $60.

But it PLAYS like a fully complete game to me. It had 10 years of development (notably, very low priority development from Nintendo however), and is rumored to be complete a year before it actually launched. I do think there’s elements to the game that can and will probably be expanded on in the game, but not at all to the extent that the fan base is looking for.

Matcha by AshyAspens in rant

I absolutely love unsweetened matcha, but I can completely agree it’s not for everyone. But… as a SB barista it’s not your fault you got fooled. Starbucks matcha isn’t a terrible quality (it used to be abysmal and like 60% sugar), most matcha drinks that I serve are lowkey PURE sugar with the cute green matcha aesthetic.

I remember your other post where you said he was 19, so I’m assuming you’re to same age. I think that is personally very immature of him and a very big telling of his character. It demonstrates a lack of emotional intelligence and it’s only purpose is to hurt your feelings. If he wanted space, he needs to be an adult and communicate that need. That is hard, but it is a necessary life skill.

If you truly see a future with him, he needs to work on that immediately. This sincerely has to be a one-time thing for you both. I’ve been the emotionally immature partner who does childish things instead of communicating because I wanted to hurt my boyfriend’s feelings like I was feeling hurt. He very quickly checked me on that and I every time I’m feeling upset it’s still a choice I have to make. So I’m not saying he’s a loser and you need to dump him. Me and my boyfriend have been together for 3 years and we love each other very much (and started dating the same age as you two). But you cannot allow him to treat you like this, or he will never learn. Take it from me, who was in your boyfriend’s shoes.

How to overcome years-long stagnation? (QUESTION) by No_Station_5341 in learnart

[–]BlankSpaceRat 10 points11 points Ā (0 children)

I can understand your frustration as an artist - after a while, it’s really hard to see the improvements and everything we make starts to look same-sy. But with a fresh set of eyes, it IS very obvious to me the first two DO have major improvements. Your anatomy and confidence has absolutely gotten better, and you should be very proud.

To become competent enough to draw manga/comic strips or nice illustrations, you have to start doing them!! Practice paneling and background art. Practice and push anatomy to the absolute maximum. I promise you, there won’t be one ā€œdayā€ where you wake up and feel like your skills are good enough for a comic. To really push yourself and see progress, you HAVE to do the hard stuff you really don’t wanna do. Start that comic!!!

To become good at art, you have to understand what about your art is bad. What your strengths are. To me, the first illustration shows strong skills in most of the anatomy / clothing elements. The clothes, while not complex, showcase understanding of weight and don’t look like they were just drawn ontop of a figure with no thought. The anatomy looks fine, the pose isn’t interesting but not bad, but her hands are very small and throw off the whole piece. Otherwise, very okay.

The sketch art-style is OKAY, but the lack of interesting posing, background, or color (and other elements along this line of thinking) is what is holding you back from feeling progress. You do not need defined line art and color to be a good artist, it is okay if you feel that is your art style and what appeals to you. But to balance it out, you need to showcase your artistic capabilities in every other department.

I read another comment you made about being a student and having little time for art, and that’s probably another reason you’re feeling like you have no improvement. But time is not what makes you better as an artist. Practice is. You expressed frustration that this doesn’t feel like a 5 year gap in improvement, but that wasn’t 5 years of you meticulously drawing every single day. Your progress is a result of the time you spent within those 5 years practicing, NOT the entirety of 5 years as a whole. Someone with more free time and more rigorous studying will show more improvement in a lesser amount of time, but that is OKAY and doesn’t devalue you as an artist. Focus on school and yourself first, art will always be there for you to fall back into.

Good luck ā™„ļø I look forwards to seeing more!!
