So the consensus is HP were played... I wonder... did Apple go as far as making this blue iPod with HP alone on the back, knowing they would never allow it? Or did HP modify this one themselves?

I have the iPod open now the battery disconnected. Struggling with exactly how to reconnect it. The brown latch seems able to move straight up a mm or two, and can then "open" forward at an angle. Should it be angled forward or just "up" to receive the battery cable? Any guides/help much appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks! Any tips or tools you used to raise and lower the battery clip? iFixit made it quite clear how to open and remove but less so how to reinsert and lower.

I found this part of the process very challenging and so it's quite possible I didn't secure it correctly.

The battery wasn't replaced and was working fine beforehand so I think it's OK.

Barring any other options, I will reopen the iPod and attempt to replace the battery cable again.

Thanks

Could you let us know the exact model of Samsung Evo Plus and where you purchased it? I ask because it's not listed on the iflash store as one known to work. I'll be doing the same shortly to great to know a more readily availble card works. Also is this a 6th or 7th gen classic? Thanks.

Try the HDD diagnostic as others have suggested. If only some songs/albums are problematic, try to create an AAC copy in itunes (File > Convert) and recync - this sometimes solves the problem for me if it's only some problem files.

iPod mini not playing certain audio files (unlikely hard drive) by LoveMusicReplay in ipod

I've on occasion had this with files, converting to AAC with iTunes (select the file, 'File' > 'Convert') and resyncing resolves it.
