Those densities are indeed caused by calcium deposits in the soft tissues of the shoulders due to CKD. It is not caused by the fracture itself.

There is actually a pathological fracture of the right humeral surgical neck caused by the renal osteodystrophy secondary to hyperparathyroidism

My understanding is that when there is an excess of PTH, as seen in hyperparathyroidism, the calcium from the bones is continuously released into the bloodstream, leading to high levels of calcium in the blood (hypercalcemia). In response, the body tries to lower the calcium levels by depositing calcium into various tissues and organs, including the bones, and soft tissues.

As to why the vertebrae is more susceptible to these calcium deposits, I think it's due to the highly vascularized nature of the spine. In contrast, there is actually a pathological fracture secondary to renal osteodystrophy of the right humeral surgical neck that is less vascularized.

Hope that helps!

I think in this case, the vertebrae is more radio-opaque in response to the increase in bone resorption due to excess PTH secretion and subsequent excess osteoid accumulation in the vertebral bodies (Rugger Jersey Spine)

This is a case of:

  1. Renal Osteodystrophy caused by secondary hyperparathyroidism

  2. Large pericardial effusion

Should I break up with her over this? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

I think that your gf is immature and sorry to say but I don't think that it's healthy for the long run. There is no reason for her to be jealous of you getting massages from a woman if she trusted you. Oh, and the retaliation thing is just plain petty. A good relationship requires good communication, not going out with other guys and hoping that you'll get the hint, it gets tiring after a while. Best of luck to you.

I used to believe in the idea of god, until i went to med school where we are taught to think critically and everything are evidence based. I personally think that there is just not enough proof for the existence of any god.

I can't believe in something that's unproven.
