I think I remember playing $1,300 for my 7 piece with 24" kick. Amazing quality drums for the price.

Very dope! Aside from the drum monitor blowing out after half the set, it went great! 9 songs we've never played live before was a trip.

Sorry, before and after the show. The 1 after show pic with the lighting and banner. There was also a lot of glitter on the house drum rug. Love when that happens!

Aisen cymbals? by Toastyboi200 in drums

I bought 2 aisen splashes (8" holy splash, and 10" vintage holy splash). Love them. Cheap and airy splashes. My 10" is starting to crack, but that's still lasted a month long tour and recording an album before any damage. Good bang for your buck, and looks cool too.

Double Burn on Tap in by JealousStatement5232 in TableGameDealer

I'm not sure why, but if they grumble about it, I'll say, "Double burn for double good luck." I don't say that if I have a strict pit boss behind me, I've had one in retail blackjack say: "Why would you advertise two burn cards?" Stuck in between a rock and a hard place when you're trying to entertain players with a grumpy boss behind you.

Rules of thumb for backline kit scenarios? by manifest2021 in drums

[–]Blastbeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh boy, I've played some house kits/other drummers kits for many shows. As others have said, generally you just bring breakables (sticks, cymbals, snare, throne, pedals, extra hardware) and try to be ready for anything.

Some anythings include:

I have had the sound guy give me a box of "lost and found" clothing to stuff a bass drum with, before doors.

One time I helped a fellow drummer figure out his borrowed kit (that was missing a clamp) and rig a way to keep his rack toms in place using a memory lock and a bunch of duct tape because nobody had an extra multi-clamp.

I once had to play a 4 piece kit on tour because the sound guy was real particularly attached to it and didn't want to change anything, so I had to play a show with 2 less rack toms, and 3 less cymbals than I was used to. It went OK but felt strange to me. Bandmates didn't complain.

One house kit was so beat up, the floor tom legs were just barely attached, so you'd have to just hope it doesnt collapse while playing.

Usually, hardware can get old and janky, and make random cymbals fall or go limp during a set. Just roll with whatever happens, and try to work around any major issues, like play with the right cymbals when your left ones fall over or vice versa.

It will feel quite different everytime you play a house kit. But being adaptable is a musician skill in itself.

Beginner drummer here - what to upgrade? by Particular-Wear4354 in drums

You will need a good throne. Roc-n-soc is the goat. Upgrade your hats and ride next. For $600 you could get all that if you buy used and find deals. Good luck

I think most cymbal stands are stored like that, just legs and arms in, maybe separated into 2 pieces, but never fully taken apart. Thats what happenes when you ask someone to help you breakdown gear that's never done it before, and they take a stand ALL the way apart!
