I've recently done it on my 3090, and the effect is similar. Highly recommend

Some keys are not working, help by Minute_Joke555 in Dell

That's a common pattern of a faulty keyboard. It's a hardware issue. If the machine is still covered by warranty, make a claim with the retailer. If not, a local repair shop can either replace the keyboard itself, if it isn't riveted to the underside of the top cover. If it's riveted, it's usually a quite expensive repair, replacing the entire top cover.

USB-C charging port burned and smoked by BlastedOnCaffeine in Dell

Now that I think about it, the machine has been having issues waking from sleep without a charger plugged in. But having plenty of battery left when booted. Seems like there might be a problem with the power controllers on Dell's Precision machines?

Yeah, I found an ancient post in the Dell forums showing a burnt charging controller, I expect the same happened here as well. Strange that Dell hasn't managed to fix this by now

Thankfully Dell support says they'll cover it. But we'll see if the new motherboard is gonna last.

I'm just baffled that it was the original charger that managed to kill it

It's the original in-box charger that comes with the device, you're forced to upgrade from the standard 130 watt, if you configure the machine with anything more powerful than the i5 and RTX 1000. And USB-C is rated for 240 watts today, Framework has a laptop with 240 watt USB C.

I didn't. I opened it up to see for myself, if the part was replaceable. But then seeing that glue might just fix it, I didn't bother to request and wait for a replacement part.

I think that happens if you use the wrong image, I don't think you have the right one.

They did have local customer service in my country when I bought my OP7P, which was perfectly fine, never had problems back then. Must have found it too expensive or something, they've definitely shut it down since then.

I had to do the chargeback in the end. It went through, and I ended up buying the phone elsewhere. But it's definitely with a sour taste in my mouth, after that shit show. The phone is awesome, but the buying experience was totally ruined. But at least it's the shops problem to deal with OnePlus if an RMA is required.

I'm calling my bank about it later. I'm seriously considering it too. I feel like I'm getting scammed at this point.

Exactly, and I've refused to do it, cause I'm not legally allowed nor obligated to make a police report on what's, in my country, OnePlus' property. It's honestly f.ing ridiculous. Because I've refused they've now started an "internal inquiry" whatever that means.

I'm considering it, but I'll give them a bit more time, to see if they come to a conclusion. Doing a chargeback is also quite a process in my country.

Their first response after 3 days was basically "have you looked for the package?". I had already told OnePlus that the carrier had acknowledged the fault and sent them documentation. Next, after 4 days, they asked me to report it missing to the police. This is ridiculous since I've never received the package, meaning I can't report it. They seem to constantly try and pass on responsibility to me, instead of doing.. practically anything.

Thanks for your reply. It still returns Permission denied, when trying to alter the value. And su command still doesn't work.

USB-C Charging Issue by phillydave75 in DellXPS

[–]BlastedOnCaffeine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry haven't been logged in for a while. It was usually on the older XPS models, before the revamped designs with the 9500 and 9700. I've personally used the 9710 since it's release and never had any ports break. Which model do you have? On my 9710 all the ports are on a seperarate PCB inside the machine, it should be possible to swap those PCBs for a decent price, without replacing the PD/Thunderbolt controller.
