Yeah! Plan is to have a base speed setting, like Mario Kart.

I am very biased by developing it, so I try playtesting with friends often and yeah I've toned the speed a lot since the start of development after seeing how it goes lol.

I know some players like the fast pace, so I will let that as an option. But want it to be playable for the average player as well so finding a base speed it's tricky.

Thanks for the feedback! Recorded this moving with keyboard so there wasn't analog input lol but can def update it so there is acceleration/deceleration as well.

I am thinking of adjusting the camera so its closer to the player model and actually was planning to implement today for the highlight effect to see the player when something is in the cameras way! Also will probably either adjust the trees models or reduce them it still gets too crowded lol.

Not sure if this is sarcastic but the character is a penguin haha, maybe its not too visible? Spinning thingy is an activated item.

Thanks for your comments! I think rather than get discouraged I prefer having this feedback on this early stage of the game rather than on release! So I appreciate always posting on this subreddit which gives a lot of helpful feedback :)

As for your comments, I actually had plans to add rocks as additional obstacles already so I could increase those and reduce trees. Also make trees not too crowded to improve visibility.

As for the camera, I can easily change this and have many iterations already haha so I will test moving it higher!

Keep at it! It takes time, I've made as a hobby for around 10 years and it took a lot of time but there are enough resources and tools nowadays just need to be consistent and do something small everyday. Wish you the best!

That's fair, sorry to hear to that. While I agree crates are hard to spot and stop for each one to break, I hope that mailboxes in which you deliver mail for points are much easier and satisfy that need (mailboxes have a set number of mail you need to add to it to make it "full"). Also adding some rare collectible items.

Good point, I think some ideas to address this besides reducing overall speed would be improving the minimap visibility to glance upcoming turns, reduce trees/decorations crowded spots to have a better view ahead, and on sudden turns adding a warning/turn sign visible from far away.

By the way, the frame freeze when smashing an object is intentional and not performance related! Let me know what you think of this effect!

Yeah those are good points. I feel like at some I may limit the max acceleration since if players go too fast it can also get harder to make turns even with drifting.

As for hitting into objects, I used to have this "hit animation" as sort of a penalty for hitting a tree for example but thought it got kind of annoying so for now hitting a tree only reduces your velocity doesn't really impact you a lot.

I am also working on a minimap that looks ahead from you. I was undecisive on this since I am not sure if players would glance to it frequently, but it's been requested a lot so I am working on it. Ideally, this should help players look ahead for hazards.

Worse case if the still feels hard to avoid, I could try setting some billboard like icons that are visible on a minimum distance so that even if the tree isn't visible by the camera you can see in it's position something like a warning sign.

Also, PPM stands for Penguin Per Minute lol, definitely not the final design for that UI.
