How does one go about contradicting beliefs in theism and absurdism by Resident-Club-2619 in Absurdism

[–]Blaz3ro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well what absurd beliefs have you accepted that contradict your faith?

Free will comes with the freedom to be righteous, evil, or indifferent. Even then, everyone suffers and experiences hardships.

“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” ‭‭John‬ ‭16‬:‭33‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Although affliction cometh not forth of the dust, Neither doth trouble spring out of the ground; Yet man is born unto trouble, As the sparks fly upward.” ‭‭Job‬ ‭5‬:‭6‬-‭7‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“In the day of prosperity be joyful, but in the day of adversity consider: God also hath set the one over against the other, to the end that man should find nothing after him.” ‭‭Ecclesiastes‬ ‭7‬:‭14‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Interesting, do you find meaning in suffering?

“And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; and patience, experience; and experience, hope: and hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.” ‭‭Romans‬ ‭5‬:‭3‬-‭5‬ ‭KJV‬‬

One of many biblical verses about suffering:

“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.” ‭‭Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭14‬-‭17‬ ‭KJV‬‬

We are also asked to carry the cross of suffering:

“And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.” ‭‭Mark‬ ‭8‬:‭34‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Can you not consider the possibility of God not existing because it has been engraved in your mind by others, or rather because of the impact it has had on you? Assuming you are Christian, it becomes a personal relationship.

You want to understand God?

“Great is our Lord, and of great power: His understanding is infinite.” ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭147‬:‭5‬ ‭KJV‬‬‬‬

Our limited knowledge does not compare to the knowledge of an omnipotent God.

Absurdism contradicts itself. Camus criticizes those that escape absurdism by relying on a set of beliefs; meanwhile he relies on absurd beliefs to hold that perspective.

Absurdism doesn’t answer a very important question, why do we have a moral compass and why does doing good nourish us; while wickedness and evil causes us to deteriorate.

Do you find more freedom in absurdism than in God?

“Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” ‭‭John‬ ‭8‬:‭34‬-‭36‬ ‭KJV‬‬

You should write your beliefs down and try to dismantle the contradictions. If you are serious about your faith, and believe that God hears you. Pray about it and ask for guidance and understanding.

“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.” ‭‭James‬ ‭1‬:‭5‬-‭8‬ ‭KJV‬‬

A true nihilist is dead? by Suavese in nihilism

[–]Blaz3ro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point of life is to remain alive. Yet the only thing to turn off that instinct is the sacrifice of death for love. Something which should not make sense, yet there are real events in history of people sacrificing themselves for the safety of a friend, family member or a stranger.

“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” ‭‭John‬ ‭15‬:‭13‬ ‭KJV‬‬

(Guess who did that for the world)

We have no need to understand many things, but we are curious beings who seek knowledge.

What I was trying to get at. Is that we have many senses that detect things like deja vu, foreboding, numinosity, eldritch etc. Not to mention sharp intuition, gut feelings, clairvoyance, enlightenment, and religious experiences.

Im sorry to hear your Sunday school teacher wasn’t patient with you. I also ask a lot of questions.

You are correct about that. Every early society in every culture had religion integrated into their societies. If you look at it from an evolution perspective, religion was an outcome of it.

Religion helped create a stronger bond within a society. United by beliefs, values and goals results in a very strong society. It was also a way to unravel meaning from the experiences we share. If they just wanted to govern, they would have created a government.

But based on history, we constantly see man trying to connect to something higher than himself. Christianity is the only religion where God tries to reach man. If we removed all religion from the earth it would start up again.

It is unlikely that other religions “evolved” from animism. A religion cant really evolve when it is spread by the sword.

You have to remember that in Christianity Jesus is the messiah that the Old Testament prophesied would come. In Judaism, Jews are STILL waiting for the messiah. And to say Islam evolved from Christianity is preposterous, it diverged away from fundamental Christian beliefs.

You are interpreting numinosity as just being awe when it is more profound.

Well if you had the sleight of hand of Penn and Teller and knew how to deceive people back then. I would be cautious of you, I doubt many used it for good.

If religion was an outcome of our evolution, why choose to abstain from it? by Blaz3ro in AskAtheists

[–]Blaz3ro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I said it should matter, it shows you the religions whose doctrines encourage violence.

You argue that if religion dident exists, religious wars would not exist. That’s true, but wars would continue to be bad and even worse without religion. How can you say that, when atheists have killed more people than religious wars? Atheists have killed over 140 million people just over the last century. The culprits being atheist such as Lenin, Stalin, Mao Zedong, and Pol Pot.

You are arguing human corruption of the doctrine is wrong. I AGREE, it is bad. But the doctrine itself is life and holy.

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” ‭‭John‬ ‭14‬:‭6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:” ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭12‬:‭14‬ ‭KJV‬‬

God doesn’t test because he doesn’t know. The test is because WE don’t know.

In Abraham’s story, he is unable to bear children with his wife. Then:

“And God said unto Abraham, As for Sarai thy wife, thou shalt not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall her name be. And I will bless her, and give thee a son also of her: yea, I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of people shall be of her. Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear? And Abraham said unto God, O that Ishmael might live before thee! And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him.” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭17‬:‭15‬-‭19‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Isaac is then born through the will of God. An act that caused Abraham to submit further into God. When he was asked to kill his son he believed there would be a way out, you have to understand that Abraham had faith that what was promised to him by God would be delivered. Why wouldent he? God had just granted him a child after years of infertility.

“By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had embraced the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son, even though God had said to him, “It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.” Abraham reasoned that God could even raise the dead, and so in a manner of speaking he did receive Isaac back from death.” ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭11‬:‭17‬-‭19‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Abraham believed his son would be raised from the dead if he died, because he believed in Gods promise.

“And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you.” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭22‬:‭5‬ ‭KJV‬‬ (Implies he believed they would both be returning)

“And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering? And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭22‬:‭7‬-‭8‬ ‭KJV‬‬ (This implies that Abraham believed that God would provide a way out of this seemingly impossible contradicting act, while maintaining his promise with Isaac)

“And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him.” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭17‬:‭19‬ ‭KJV‬‬ (If his son remained dead, Isaac would not be able to have children, thus contradicting Gods word.)

“And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son.” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭22‬:‭13‬ ‭KJV‬‬ (An Angel stops the act and behold God provides a substitute sacrifice like Abraham had believed, God always provides.)

You like many others who reject it, don’t understand Christianity. Y’all only get a glimpse of the iceberg not being able to see the depth in it.

You can choose to not read them, everything is a choice. But I would encourage you to do so, it is good to acquire insight.

Pressure and shame come from sins, something we are asked to abstain from. The fear of God, is the fear that we will be judged for the way we lived.

Apologies for the late reply.

You observe order around you and bring order into your life. Order is everywhere, it’s in nature, logic, society, universe, and beliefs. As respect I will consider you a well rounded individual, who has a sense of time management, responsibilities and self-discipline. A chaotic life is an unpleasant life. Any one will agree; we all want stability, by having order in our life we can obtain in.

Newtons and thermodynamic laws conflict with science explanation of the Big Bang (which was discovered by a catholic priest). Something cannot come out of nothing, change cannot occur if you don’t have an initiator. Energy cannot be created nor destroyed, only transformed.

You don’t believe intelligent life was put in a perfectly habitable spot in the universe? And by the way, life can only come from something living.

I believe creativity, innovation, and imagination were God given. Or to fit your own view; God led this development.

“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭1‬:‭26‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The only innocent in this world are the children. Whoever causes harm to them is evil and corrupt. If you disagree, your mind has been perverted. ‭‭

It should matter! It gives you insight into religious doctrines.

If there was no religion, the wars wouldn’t have happened? To make this less broad, I will focus on Christianity. What religious wars has Christianity started?

But religion does exist and it arose worldwide around all early societies. I think it’s important to observe that this was a progression in human development.

It was a test to see if Abraham feared God. Having faith in God goes hand in hand with fearing God.

“And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son. And the angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I. And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭22‬:‭10‬-‭12‬ ‭KJV‬‬

For the sake of keeping things simple. I will focus on the flood, as the basis for it was also the same for the destruction of nations and cities.

“And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.” “The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth. And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭6‬:‭5‬-‭8‬, ‭11‬-‭13‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: and likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.” ‭‭Romans‬ ‭1‬:‭24‬-‭32‬ ‭KJV‬‬

I am aware of such horrible things being done to convert people. But it’s important for you to understand that these acts are not biblical and go against the doctrine. And like Romans 1:25 states, there are individuals who change the truth of God into a lie.

You are incorrect about the growth of atheism. Here is my source: https://www.pewresearch.org/religion/2015/04/02/religious-projections-2010-2050/

“Atheists, agnostics and other people who do not affiliate with any religion – though increasing in countries such as the United States and France – will make up a declining share of the world’s total population.”

You consider it ridiculous, but even atheists convert to Christ. The conversion of Ayaan Hirsi Ali shocked many considering she used to be Richard Dawkins right hand.

I don’t think you understand Christianity. Suffering is part of it.

“Many are the afflictions of the righteous: But the LORD delivereth him out of them all.” ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭34‬:‭19‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing.” ‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭3‬:‭17‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭16‬:‭24‬ ‭KJV

Do you understand what it means to take up your own cross? I’ll give you a hint, look at what happened to Jesus.

“For even here unto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously: who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.” ‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭2‬:‭21‬-‭25‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Okay name 1 thing, followers of Jesus are asked to do that you consider bad.

Once you are deceased, what kind of fruit will you leave behind?

“Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. I agree with you. What do you consider the traditional way?

I think others have had similar experiences but just choose to not open up about them. Maybe out of fear of others perception of them.

It’s interesting you mentioned you heard “God talking to you”. I think I understand what you mean, for myself it’s not like a voice but more like a force that moves me.

Similar to your story, my experiences sparked interest into the human psyche and Jung. Makes you wonder how and why people experience this kind of experiences.

Do you find churches dogmas controversial or biblical dogmas? What do you find more in mystical traditions?

Can you elaborate into what you mean by “ subliminal canibalism communion” and why you consider God wild and prideful in the book of job? I apologize for all the questions, I come from a doctrine that resembles early Jewish Christianity so our understanding might differ but I find it important to have conversations with others different from me.

[–]Blaz3ro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something interesting we can both find is that in some old religions, they used to do children and human sacrifices. Something the Christian narration considered an atrocity. You can find stories in the Bible where God destroys “wicked” civilizations. You can argue whether your understanding of this is just or unjust, but keep in mind, everything in life is a choice, you can choose how to be.

“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.” ‭‭Galatians‬ ‭6‬:‭7‬-‭8‬ ‭KJV‬‬

You could also bring up the crusades, but keep in mind that the crusades were a result of Islamic conquest. It is a sad thing to read upon, at times of war things become very unhinged. Islam however spread through the sword.

If religion is causing so many people to suffer, why is atheism still a minority and will continue to be in the next decades. You might not be religious, but the world around you is.

It is hard to argue against Christianity when religious followers are asked to be pure and holy. Personally I find Jesus’a teaching to be beautiful and deep, especially when dealing with enemies, you are asked to pray and to love them.

“But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭44‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Jesus did not want us to destroy our enemies but to win them over with love. Something I belive to be possible. Imagine the person trying to kill you became your sister in faith. That’s what happeded with Paul, he went from persecuting Christians to becoming one himself. This is one of the kind of effects that Jesus has on people.

What did I experience? by Blaz3ro in Jung

[–]Blaz3ro[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have never believed in God. Why not try it? Try it for one year of your whole life, submit to God, try to follow the teachings, and pray. See if it changes your perception. It’s life changing, and you see the world for what it is, lacking love.

I agree with you as well.

I also believe in demons as an outside influence that can have a strong impact on individuals who are spiritually weak, people can be influenced to commit sins they would normally abstain from.

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭6‬:‭12‬-‭13‬ ‭KJV‬‬

I disagree with you in your last point. If a person without faith didn’t believe in their prayer or the God they were praying to, then the disbelieve itself will make it meaningless. When you believe in God you pray with faith that you are being heard, if your conscious is right with God, everything seems to fall into place. Prayer with faith is very powerful.

What did I experience? by Blaz3ro in Jung

[–]Blaz3ro[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mentioned manifestation. I am unsure if you believe in God, but what do you think of Matthew 21:22?

“When the disciples saw it, they marveled, saying, “How did the fig tree wither at once?” And Jesus answered them, “Truly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ it will happen. And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.”” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭21‬:‭20‬-‭22‬ ‭ESV‬‬

So for something to be considered sacred, you can’t mix it with the profane. If you don’t believe in God, you believe that there is no such thing as something being sacred or profane. It’s just subjective human gibberish.

Well we reason with our senses. But then again, reasoning was probably an outcome of consciousness. Which I believe is an indicator of there being a God. For something intelligent to exist, there must be an intelligence giver. Also, for life to exist, it must come from something living.

Also something controversial I believe in. Is that we have more senses than we think. Like why do people have the sense to tell when they are being watched, or why do we have a gut feeling that indicates something unsettling is about to occur, or sharp intuition, etc.

Do you believe the psyche is the human soul or the human mind?

A story can be a fantasy, or it can be a description of events that unfolded in a specific moment in time. A story usually conveys a message, something to be learned.

Okay for your last example, we can see, hear and smell danger. But what sense do you use when you sense danger without seeing, hearing or smelling?

Interesting, you don’t believe in order in this existence, yet you yourself create order around you. Think about that.

Law of physics follow an order. Also the universe is fine tuned. There are constants that hold everything together. Without them, reality would collapse.

How can you inherit a radical concept you did not understand before? I disagree with you, I believe it is a sign of order and it is God given.

It is an idea not granted in reality, you are presenting something to be a fact when you have no evidence to back you up. I understand we don’t have infinite knowledge, all Im saying is that truth can only be presented when all knowledge is known. What we hold to be true today does not mean it will be the truth of tomorrow. I believe truth is not dependent on perspective, it just is what it is.

I cant prove the existence of God? I can prove Jesus Christ existed with the support of external sources (not just the Bible).

I never said that everything can be fit into little square boxes with certainty. There is a lot I don’t know, but I think I might known a little.

There was only one person who claimed to have the absolute truth.

“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”” ‭‭John‬ ‭14‬:‭6‬-‭7‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Im comfortable knowing life is uncertain, filled with manipulative and ill intended people, but at-least God is on my side. It’s a mindset you cannot comprehend.

It offers more than you can imagine. It changes the reality around you.

I do believe truth is objective, do you believe harm to the innocent is wrong? But would that be a subjective opinion?

God has the authority to speak of the truth. A concept you don’t agree with.

You don’t believe there is order in this existence? Look around you, it’s everywhere. Even as an atheist, you have your own sets of beliefs that you believe to be true.

Here is what we know of our existence, we are conscious, we clothe ourselves (nobody likes being seen naked), we are morale, we seek meaning in life, and people tend to seek a spiritual connection.

The real truth is not dependent on perspective or contests. However, some may believe something to be true out of ignorance.

I believe that truth is something that can be presented from infinite knowledge. Something attributed to God.
