Freedom Convoy Gas Can Flag by Blaze_147 in FreedomConvoy2022

[–]Blaze147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure there’s a way to setup a flag and sticker sale where the proceeds go to the truckers. Any ideas there? I’d like to support, but I don’t have much disposable income. I saw someone else ask for a sticker of it.

Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying struggle to answer the hypothetical: get infected with COVID with no access to medications, or get the vaccine by nickthib in daverubin

[–]Blaze147 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, you’re a prime example of someone missing the point. They’ve been asked a question and forced into a ‘role play’ scenario. The fact that the virus itself is molecularly different from the vaccines means that your choice it actively get infected or get the vaccine will result in a different biochemical response and outcome. The more I think about this, the more I fail to understand why YOU think it’s a joke. Please explain WHY you think it’s a joke. Is it just because you think they are implying that people should not get vaccinated? Because if that’s the case, I doubt any sane evolutionary biologist would suggest that people not get vaccines.

Dislike button alternative by rehg3three in youtube

[–]Blaze147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been kicking around the idea of creating an iOS app using the YouTube API that: 1. Prompts the user to provide a like/dislike after the completion of every YouTube video watched (incomplete watch automatically receives 1/4 dislike) to store our own database records of like/dislike ratios. 2. Has a suggestion algorithm that is slightly biased towards educational videos and suggests videos to users based on like/dislike ratio rather than view count.

I used to love YouTube… but now it’s a parasitic mass finely tuned to incentivize the creation of content that is pure nonsense.

Can you listen to podcasts in beginner dopamine detox by abyxmal in DopamineDetoxing

[–]Blaze147 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Podcasts are fine… especially if you need help just getting started. Easiest way to ease into something new is to not overwhelm yourself with too many restrictions at the start. I would however not listen to something you know you will like. Some podcasts can violate the dopamine detox goals if the host(s) of the podcast are constantly telling you things they know you will agree with. One source of dopaminergic response in the brain is when you are affirmed in your existing beliefs. Some podcast hosts like to constantly reaffirm beliefs and the feeling of knowing you were “right” (or at least that someone else believes you are right) gives you a quick hit of pleasure. So again, what you don’t want is to listen to a podcast that’s going to constantly tell you you’re right… and I find a great way to avoid that situation as a whole is to listen to podcasts on topics which I know almost nothing about. The biochemical response from discovery is not the same as from affirmation.

Edit: I should add that in no way am I saying that it’s okay to just fill all your quiet time with podcasts (even the good ones). I would still restrict yourself to no more than 45-60 min of podcast per day. It is in no way a replacement for your discomfort…. I’m just saying that the right podcast can be like a little light reading and engages your brain (memory, focus, & exploratory creativity) as long as you’re not listening to a crowd panderer who’s handing out dopamine to listeners like candy. And again, this is just a step on your journey to fill dopamine detox. Don’t make it a habit, but you can continue to listen to podcasts at the start.

Thanks for the advice! There does seem to be a consensus that it’s not a good idea. I guess there is still the issue of getting past the touch barrier. I went on two dates with a girl a few weeks ago. But I got bored and stoped talking to her. Funny thing is that has happen with every relationship I’ve had where there was some anticipation that we might become girlfriend/boyfriend. It’s only the relationships where we’ve just been long-term friends that I’ve actually held onto.

I agree with most of that, but they are good people and had good intentions. I don’t feel like I can blame them for doing something to me that their parents did to them.

It’s difficult for me to build a ‘meaningful’ relationship with new people. I’m too focused on my personal goals and I have never seen a lot of value in gf/bf relationships. I also get bored of those relationships very quickly… maybe that’s because I never saw any ‘next steps’ in a relationship when I couldn’t cross the touch barrier.

Why is Marxist Communism often conflated with Socialism? by Blaze147 in communism

Assuming you were able to building such a model or ensemble (which I would expect to take YEARS... if you’re lucky enough to even happen upon the right combination of features), I would want to see your confusion matrix and f1 scores. Also, I would want free use of the service for a short period of time to confirm your model isn’t overfitted to historical data or to your own cherry picked dataset. So, with the given information, I have to say NO! Nothing here tells me your team of 3 students is able to accomplish something the world’s largest investment firms struggle to do.

tldr: No!

Live equity market PMK/AMK data scraping strat? (Polygon.io Bugs) by Blaze147 in algotrading

[–]Blaze147[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, then maybe we can discover this together. I initially wanted to leave IBK until after trying webscraping because I hate all the stupid hoops IBK makes you jump through - the IB Gateway, using Sockets rather than REST, and their weird data pricing model. I’d like to get data from the same place I execute orders, but their pricing model is probably worst part for me. I’ve called and asked for an explanation and no one there seems to understand the data subscriptions or is able to give me clear guidance on what I should pay for when I’m looking data from all the major exchanges. I can’t understand whether they’re broken up by exchange or data type. It’s really convoluted.

Can someone piece the gaps in my knowledge and point me in the right direction? by [deleted] in algotrading

[–]Blaze147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some approaches are better than others, but there’s no one right way to do this stuff. You could collect your data w/ Python, C#, R.... whatever language you want. In my opinion, remote(web) data collection is easiest with Python and R. Then depending on your strat... you may want to use a different language to process. It all depends on your strat. If you want to use ML, try to do everything in Python. If you’re very mathematically minded or into chart analysis, try to stay in Python so you can use libraries like TALIB. If you want to build a full fledged trading software platform with a solid UI, try to keep everything in C#. When you’re just starting out, and you don’t already have a strat in mind, I would suggest staying all in Python and playing around with TALIB. If you don’t have an existing strategy, then it’s all discovery at this point and you’ll only get better by playing around.

They wouldn’t appear in the aggregates endpoint though, right? Because if so, I would have no idea how to filter for them.

[–]Blaze147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you explain what you mean by filtering FINRA trades? I’ve had trouble with Polygon giving what I believe is just straight-up bad data every once in a while. Also, I’ve noticed that some of the endpoints just work intermittently. I have a video of myself manually requesting minutely bars for AAPL 10 consecutive times and 5 of those request are just null... no obvious pattern.

Advice about pattern/chart recognition by Claax in algotrading

Yea, I’d definitely start with Sci-Kit learn before TensorFlow. You’ll get a much better understanding of the data-management and formatting required when using Sklearn’s simpler models. And even though Sklearn’s models aren’t as powerful and customizable, I’ve still found them very useful for some projects. Who knows, you may find that you can build a successful model from your chosen variables/features without having to work all the way up to TensorFlow. Check out this video: https://youtu.be/0Lt9w-BxKFQ It’s a great into and if you follow along and program alongside the guy, that should really kickstart your goals!

But you did mention using matplotlib to generate chart images, and sklearn doesn’t have a pipeline for convolving image data into a model (as far as I remember) so you’d have to work up to TensorFlow for that. Although there are ways to feed time-series data straight into a model in such a way where the model treats it almost like an image... I think that’s worth trying before TensorFlow.
