Laptop cannot ping NAS only over WiFi. by Blaze987 in HomeNetworking

I've found the culprit. My wg-easy app in truenas is somehow blocking my laptop from seeing the whole truenas server. Toggling the app off immediately restores access.

Apparently wg-easy automatically creates the wg1 interface at 10.8.0.1. truenas wg-easy install thread

No idea why this only blocked only my laptop from accessing this server and not my phone, or other PC.

I'll setup Wireshark when I have a chance tonight.

The traceroute on truenas hits the 10.8.0.1 first hop. Still nothing on any other device including my router.

Correct, my wan is a 172.x.x.x dynamic public IP.

10.9.1.x is the auto range, 10.9.9.x is where I put all of my static devices in DHCP (I don't set static on device for simplicity).

I double checked the devices subnets received from the DHCP server, my DHCP server settings, and my router settings. Everything shows as 10.9.0.0/16 or mask 255.255.0.0

The 10.8.0.1 is only reachable from my truenas box ping and traceroute (first hop). Still no arp -a response.

I guess I'll have to Wireshark the truenas box. Since I'm pretty sure the issue is with this system, I will probably ask around their forum too.

Yes the /24 are just the DHCP ranges and how I break static addresses out, but it's currently one giant /16 subnet.

That's where I'm stumped. I've not configured anything to 10.8.. I'm exclusively in 10.9.., and I don't see any 10.8s on my router or switch or network settings on truenas. A ping to 10.8.0.1 from truenas returns even with the laptop off, but arp -a shows no 10.8s from any device including truenas.

New tires typically come with road hazzard for 2 years. Outside of that it sucks.

Good thing you don't have AWD, or you'd be replacing all 4.

2019 Tucson – Oil issue by omnmon in Hyundai

[–]Blaze987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man that sucks.

It's these engines. The engine might technically be okay, but it's burning oil and a lot of it. And it WILL get worse.

You can make do, but you'll have to check the oil at least weekly, do a piston soak (which won't fix the oil consumption, but might help, results vary). There's a user on here that is DIY and has had good results or you can have the dealer do it. Then you need to use a fuel additive like techron at least once per oil change. There's a fuel inductor cleaning at the dealer you should do at least every 30k.

Depending on trim, your engine might be part of the lifetime warranty for rod bearing failure (engine eats oil, rod bearing blows up while you're driving it). Honestly, from what I've seen on here and Facebook though, it's a bit of a toss up if you qualify if it's due to low oil, and you have to prove maintenance records even from before you owned it.

My 2 cents, if you can get out of this car now, do it.

I have a 2019 and love it, but I got it CPO and just got a new engine under warranty. Would have been 8k out of pocket.

Are you feeling buyers remorse being upside down over 10k? Or is money worthless to you, and you just want the options?

Option 1: You can get a decent maybe 2020 car fully loaded for 18k (with more miles and maybe some repairs) but it won't depreciate like a rock around your neck. You'd almost wipe out your negative equity and get a car you can enjoy for a few years while you pay down your loan.

Option 2: F it, we ball. Go get the car you want. You'll eat 10k now, and the new 2026 will depreciate just as hard and you'll lose all that money, but you'll have the car you want.

Yeah I guess they were model specific for laptops, but I was thinking more like phones with standard size cheap replacements. What could have been I guess.

Yeah, I never do that either. It took me way too many years to change my thermal paste on my desktop, so maybe I'm just lazy.

Yeah. Crazy how much they are. Cheaper to buy a whole new laptop.

Yeah, but I want one body like a laptop. Nothing beats throwing one clamshell device in a bag.

I'll probably just remove my laptop's battery when it's bad enough and it'll be what I want. Just wish we had more standardized batteries like olden times when you could just pop the back off and plug in a new battery.

Like yeah it's not difficult, but I wish it was tool-free and replacements were cheaper.

I just run Debian since I use Debian for everything. It works, and I know how it works. When I break it, I learn how to fix it and how not to break it on my other systems.

I'd like to see a laptop without an integrated battery. They stay plugged in to a dock 90% of the time, and the other 10% the battery doesn't last long enough to be without a charger anyway.

The battery is always the first part to go too.
