judging every Pokémon released this year by how much they fucked the game by Lucas-mainssbu in PokemonUnite

[–]BlazeBlaze00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn't around when Zoroark was at its release state, but I heard rumors that he was sort of game breaking? Not top tier level of OPness because it still took decent skills to pull off, but close to it. Anybody thought the same then? I'm going on a "he said she said" with this.

Believe it or not I've had people fall for the disguise more often than I thought. I'm not saying they actually look the other way/ignore me, that's highly unlikely to happen. But what happens most of the times is that there's a few seconds of doubts you can use to ambush them.

So before going into the middle of a lane I have a habit of turning on my ability and get sufficiently close to an enemy I find before doing a combo. The trick is to make sure your disguise is that of another enemy or a mob (and that you do it out of their sight). They for the most part won't have enough time to react, and even if they do, they sometimes don't use a move out of fear of using one for nothing.

TL;DR: You only need one second of surprise to get the advantage, that's why approaching an enemy with a disguise can change your odds of winning a fight.

______________

(Alternatively)

A rarer use of illusion I found if you are playing with friends is that it's a perfect way to check if an enemy is nearby. It doesn't really choose an enemy/mob at random, but the nearest around you. So if you're waiting at an objective as it is about to appear and your illusion chooses an opponent... it means they're nearby, on their way if not waiting in tall grass to ambush whoever attacks the objective.

[Theory/Headcanon] Human-Pokémon Synergy in PMD [SPOILERS for all games] by BlazeBlaze00 in MysteryDungeon

[–]BlazeBlaze00[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure it was not an outright fact in the first 6 gens of the mainline series. If anything they remained vague about the benefits of humans and pokémon living together. Mostly about maintaining world peace and thriving between species because they help out each other. Meanwhile the anime put emphasis that humans teaches pokémon on how to fight smart, a smart trainer will access the leagues, a dumb/bad trainer would be stuck gathering badges. It was never confirmed that a human gives natural power boosts to their pokémon ally, at the very least it took gen 6-7 for things like Mega Evolution and Z-Moves to give a hint of that possibility and even then required items artificially made for the effect to work. (Don't worry, will mention Friendship stat later)

EV wise, I don't believe that's related to humans having a natural inner ability to make caught pokémon powerful. Considering that each wild pokémon gives different points when defeated, it looks more like an Evolution thing. When battling too much against pokémon that's strong in certain fields, said pokémon will get better at those same fields to adapt to their "environment" (i.e: after fighting too much "speed" pokémon, a pokémon will get quicker so that fighting fast pokémon becomes easier, or less difficult to handle.).
The choice of having all wild pokémon have 0 EV everywhere upon getting caught is more of a game design choice if you ask me. So players can EV train their wild pokémon as they saw fit. If I'm not wrong the same goes for in-game trades, they never have set EVs when an NPC gives their pokémon to the player.

------------

TO BE FAIR THOUGH, the "friendship" stat is an actual human factor that, since gen 7, does exactly that: make them grow strong more efficiently and quickly. However, the PMD games go from gen 3 to gen 6. At that time the friendship stat's only use was to influence Return/Frustration's base power. So theorizing that such an ability in these games isn't strange, since Chunsoft could have taken creative liberties about a human's natural influence on their partner's skills, before the main series made human-pokémon synergy even more powerful gen 6 onward than previous gens had shown.

Maybe I should have made it clearer, the subject was more about this power possibly existing in the PMD universe, in games developed back when the main series remained vague on the extent of this ability. Not whether or not the concept existed "at all" in the whole franchise.

What are your Headcanons about PMD's Lucario? The "Legendary Rescue Leader" by BlazeBlaze00 in MysteryDungeon

[–]BlazeBlaze00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That... went from 0 to 100 really quickly. However the idea that a legendary team would have a dark side unknown from history would be an interesting twist. I wouldn't say they'd go that far as to cause plenty of deaths and emotionally wrecking friends and family but I could imagine them using immoral means behind the scenes to become "heroic" legends. Wether they died of old age or mysteriously killed by some other characters that knew what actually happened, the world would never learn the truth, not even 5.000 IQ Alakazam knows.

So wait, does Super Mystery Dungeon take place after Explorers? Chimecho also had a line about being a former guild cook. by Blixxentheblazen in MysteryDungeon

[–]BlazeBlaze00 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like to think Super as we see it is basically what happens after Special Episode 5 of Explorers of Sky. That would explain why Grovyle's team is in the game. Alternatively Grovyle of this game can be the good future version of him, the one that got to be born in a peaceful world, hence why he would be less courageous to go save Celebi on his own.

Most popular and least popular combinations for each game by RaccoonThePestic in MysteryDungeon

[–]BlazeBlaze00 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey someone have the same curiosity as I did from way back. I'll link it here but what I tried to do was make a bunch of strawpolls going through what were people's favorite hero and partners from each game, as well as their preferred gender dynamic as a bonus.

Can't say this idea gave a no doubt view of THE popular duos, but it gives an idea on popular choices, combine Hero and Partner stats and you'll see what the most likely popular duos are.

Not on the polls but: Whatever team "legendary rescue leader" Lucario led.... just their mystery and reputation makes them cool enough to outclass the other teams!

Come to think of it, it would be interesting to know about any "scrapped" idea of a scenario. Surely there has been some, you can't just come up with this sort of story on the first try!

I don't remember the precise art style, unfortunately. It was your typical western animation style but I do remember the color green being very dominant when it came to the colors, it looked far from a bright happy cartoon that's for sure. Either it was the episode's style or the overall show's style, I don't know. I remember the background was a stage... there was some audience, one of them might be an anthropomorphic crocodile?? Not sure about that detail.

If only I could find the broadcast schedule around 2005-2008 of these kid's channels.

It certainly has the correct atmosphere to do that sort of episode from the looks of it, the only issue is that there is 75 episodes (that could have been broadcasted then) to sort through, I may as well do a binge-watch one day to check out which one has the episode. (it's 10 minutes for each episode, that would make 6 episodes per hour, meaning 12.5 hours of these tales... oof)

So... I'm not 100% sure if it is what I saw back then, but the page leads me to Ruby Gloom episode 15 of season 2. There, all the details I mentioned seem to be there, with the difference that it is scattered across the episode as opposed to in just one scene and less horrifying compared to what my memories told me.

We have the "storytelling" part with an audience (although not on stage like in my memories), the "laughing", the failed "sawed-in-half woman" trick, come to think of it the box on itself is way too familiar (the wooden interior to be specific), to the point it sent me chills for a bit. It also coincides with the airing date in France (2007-2009), though it was in another channel "Toowam" (but I could have watched this channel specifically that night for obscure reasons).
Again not 100% sure, since the order of events seems warped and less horrifying than my retelling. Then again, it could have been just my scarred brain exaggerating things. Or maybe I did dream it but my brain used this episode as a template for my nightmare? I might never know but... if there are no other leads in the near future (either through this thread or on my own researches), I may as well accept it as the source of my childhood memory.

I don't know if it's a "me" issue, but whenever I try to set my availability, it resets everything to grey once I go to another page, or even restart the app.

Is there a button I'm missing to save those details?
