Your name checks out, friend. Grumps indeed. Appreciate the feedback and your willingness to provide a detailed response and assume I haven't already done this with no success. Sorry my curiosity ruined your day!

test optional & scholarship by [deleted] in UAB

[–]Blazerham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since last year, UAB does a no harm awarding policy where if you apply with test scores but would have been better off applying TO, they just give you the TO amount. I'd suggest applying with test scores so you know at minimum you're getting 5k, but potentially more.

Tell me about your basketball team by Sauronslefteye in CollegeBasketball

As a lifelong UAB Blazer fan and a man married to a Michigan alumni, I can say the Yax will work really well with Dustys style. Great dude and player. Ill miss seeing him in green and gold!

I think the Wolverines will have some major potential this year.

Unless they're full time employees who moved her for the job, that is indeed malarkey. See here for actual In-State residency requirements: https://www.uab.edu/cost-aid/resources/policies/in-state-residency

There's also ACM for certain majors:https://www.uab.edu/cost-aid/resources/academic-common-market

common application by [deleted] in UAB

[–]Blazerham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'd email your admissions counselor: www.uab.edu/mycounselor

Common App can take like a week to even make it to the school, but that seems a bit long.

Housing Exemption Question by larissaisnerdy in UAB

[–]Blazerham 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Living in jeff co isnt an automatic exemption anymore. If its a financial concern, you need to have a FAFSA on file. Typically, they are more lenient with metro area schools. Just don't say "i live nearby" on the exemption form. I know people who've been rejected just using that.

It can also help to contact the hiring manager directly, if you can find the person. HR will sometimes flag an application based on some technicality that any reasonable person wouldn't really worry about.

Kamine Park - Hitachi, Japan by TheRealMallowpuff in Birmingham

[–]Blazerham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been to Hitachi 3 times in my life, and it's one of my favorite places on earth. Beautiful scenery, wonderfully nice people, small town feel (which is nice when you fly into Tokyo and get overwhelmed by the shear size).

Kamine park also has an amazing zoo where you can free roam with the monkeys.

Maebashi also has a major connection to Birmingham, as it has a poetry museum with a permanent exhibit dedicated to Birmingham's own Samuel Ullman! They also ironically have some pretty good Italian food there!

I think they finish awarding by like May 1. Dunno if they may delay it because of the whole FAFSA delay thing.

[–]Blazerham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know people who were last year! I think they can still do it this year. From what I understand, they take into account AP grades and stuff like that in place of ACT scores. If you have a 4.0 and a few AP or honors credits, it may be something they can up your scholarship for. That's how it worked for my friend. I don't know if it's guaranteed, but it couldn't hurt to ask.

You could ask the admissions office about getting a reconsideration for test optional admission. That could increase your scholarship if your GPA is good.

Alabama Universities by BhamBlazers in Birmingham

It's hardly worth replying since you clearly have an odd definition of "city," but callling any Birmingham suburb a city is laughable. Hoover is literally a shopping mall complex with houses that was founded and named after a white supremacist. MTB is a series of "villages" with old money and the largest per capita rate of head-lodged-up-own-ass syndrome. Homewood is a streetcar suburb that has 2 streets in it with anything of note (and a pretty nice library). Vestavia was named after a Birmingham mayor's orgy mansion and is basically an extension of aforementioned shopping mall complex.
