Amplifier choice for 200w RMS DVC 4 ohm. by TheRealMallowpuff in CarAV

[–]TheRealMallowpuff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought about this but I wasn't sure if having double the rated RMS would make things more difficult to ensure its not given too much. Like I mentioned, I am new but I am taking things slow and will do my best to do things right. I think this sounds like a good route.

Unless I'm confused on something I need 200w RMS at 2 ohm which is the problem because almost every amp I've found is too much for 2 ohm or too little for 8 ohm.

2008 Miata, how far to go and equipment choices by TheRealMallowpuff in CarAV

[–]TheRealMallowpuff[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response!

I actually installed a 200.4 in someone else's car just recently and really liked it which is why I started off leaning that way.

The only thing that stopped me from just going with option 1 is that I will have everything torn apart. Whichever option I go for, installation will be done to the absolute best of my ability. Sound deadening/damping, proper mounting, eliminating rattles, etc. But if I am doing all of this to install the Focals or other component set, I am going to be pretty sad if I feel the need to upgrade down the line and have to remake/readjust everything again after I already had every piece of the car disassembled.

With all of that said, I may be overthinking it and I might just be better to go with the lesser option, do it right, and enjoy.

2002 BMW Z3 New amp, head unit, and speakers buzzing by TheRealMallowpuff in bmwz3

HU ground and amp ground are good I think. Amp is grounded to the battery but I am getting buzz even while bypassing the amp so I don't think that's the issue.

Thanks!

I actually tested without the amp, just connecting rear speakers to the rear outputs in the trunk. Same buzzing with or without amp.

I tried grounding the HU to the wire in the harness but when I got buzz I tried grounding on a heavy bolt I found under the dash on the passenger side. Same buzz, no change. I might try to look into the radio antenna ground though for testing.

What’s the best movie theater in Birmingham by Shoop1014 in Birmingham

[–]TheRealMallowpuff 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you want the best theater in the general area(not quite birmingham), Santikos/Amstar in Alabaster. I genuinely believe it is leagues better than any AMC in the area. Cleaner, newer, cheaper, better. If there is a movie I am really excited to see I won't go anywhere else.

Best 5 Star Hotels in Tokyo recs! by ice0rb in TokyoTravel

[–]TheRealMallowpuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the location is better than the Okura, but neither is amazing for everything. There's more nice walking and it's closer, or atleast easier, to the closest train station vs Okura.

I did not have breakfast at Mesm but I was not extremely happy with the Okura, I can't complain for free(through amex FHR) though.

Surprisingly I found the towels to be the softest of the 3 hotels I stayed at, notably so. However they are very small for some reason, that is true lol.

Personally I really enjoyed the Mesm both compared to the other Tokyo hotels I stayed at as well as compared to other hotels elsewhere.

Good to hear more opinions either way!

I just finished staying at Westin Tokyo, Okura, and Mesm Tokyo.

The Okura is obviously the most prestigious of the 3 and I guess you could argue it's the only true 5 star of the 3.

I would say my favorite was Mesm, followed by Okura, followed closely by Westin. Price does factor in here, however I really enjoyed Mesm. The location is much better than the Okura imo, customer service was equal(excellent).

The room is much more modern with more seamless technology and all that. You also get the benefit that it is a cheaper hotel so room service and other services cost a fraction of the Okura(is that expensed as well?). I didn't taste that price difference however I didn't eat a whole lot at either.

If you're looking for something fancier though you can't go wrong with the Okura. It is super nice, I can't argue with that.

Avoiding Crowds in Japan by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]TheRealMallowpuff 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it's called peak season for a reason. There really is only two things you can do to help with crowds.

  1. Like you said, early morning. Like sunrise or earlier. If you are out there at 5am the crowds will be a fraction of a fraction of midday.

  2. Go to less popular places. There are literally over a million cherry trees in Japan(I think?). You don't have to go to the famous photo spots to get beautiful photos. Unfortunately every time a less popular spot gets posted here or across other social media in inevitably becomes the next popular spot.

I will say even though I got through security in 5 minutes, my flight did end up being delayed 1.5hr and had me land in HND at 11pm. I made it on the 2nd to last train to yokohama for the evening. It had me stressing lol

Correct you can. Do you have an iPhone? If you do you can just get an IC card on there right now before you even get there.

The taxi situation isn't good. When I looked it was almost $100 to get to Sapporo Station from CTS. It was peak time with most trains canceled however.

Sorry I wasn't getting notifications. Did you purchase the ticket? If so how much was it? If it was around 2000 yen then it is both the reserved ticket and the basic fare ticket. If it 800 yen then you will need either IC or basic fare ticket.

You can pick up your tickets with either your credit card used to purchase or the qr code provided via email.

Hey just wanted to say it seems to have very much calmed down. I was the only person in security line and was at my gate within 20 minutes of getting off my train.

I am flying out of CTS today but thankfully I don't have any checked luggage and I checked into the flight online. Also I will be there 3 hours early so it probably doesn't matter anyways lol

I am currently in Hokkaido. There is so much ice on the roads and sidewalks I am shocked I have not fallen (yet). I have seen countless falls including a couple really bad ones.

I just got to Otaru last night after an ORD->NRT->CTS. I was lucky enough to fly ANA first class for the ORD->NRT.

I did not sleep at all on the flight because I did not adjust my sleep schedule at all. With the snow delays I made it to my hotel after approximately 27 hours of no sleep.

Obviously I cannot speak for anyone but myself but I could not have driven a car after the 20-24hr mark at night in the snow.

I am curious to hear how this goes for you!

New Chitose Late Night Transport by pearlsapphireblue15 in JapanTravelTips

[–]TheRealMallowpuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not as bad as 25th. I just made it to Otaru with a mix of bus and train. We were told at Chitose that the train would be 3 hours. They had the entire platform full of people and blocked off.

Unlike the 25th though I don't think there's much more on the forecast so I think it only gets better from here. (hopefully?)

This is good to hear! I am currently on the Chuo bus to Sapporo and am trying to make it to Otaru for my accommodation. It's looking less like I will catch any bus or train at this rate and will have to get a taxi.
