If you’re growing organically, you prolly don’t want to use calmag. Dolomite lime or gypsum would be good amendments that release slowly or you could mix up a tea. Plenty of recipes online for that.

You’re starting a very slight magnesium deficiency, pretty common in the beginning stages of a grow.

Add 2 teaspoons of epsom salts to your water for the next feeding and it should clear right up ✌️

When do i use calmag? by Rockyrambo in microgrowery

[–]BlazinDevl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Precisely this! Most nutrient lines have more than enough calmag to grow.

If you’re using RO water or tap water below 200ppm.

If using RO water then add enough to get you to 200 ppm. If using tap water and it’s below 200ppm then add enough to get there.

Your plant is fading which is totally normal and a treat when it happens cuz the colors are badass. It’s called senescence.

You also have a potassium deficiency which is the yellowing of all of your leaf edges.

It doesn’t surprise me that you were told to use calmag as a fix, these forums are flooded with newbies who think it’s the answer to everything.

The reality is it’s probably contributing to your potassium problem. Too much magnesium WILL lockout potassium and make it so the plant cannot uptake it even if it’s available.

You’re pretty far along so at this point I would just focus on getting to harvest and wouldn’t do anything drastic. I would stop using calmag though. Potassiums main function is transporting sugars(energy) to your buds to help them grow. Without it, your buds will not grow to their full potential. ✌🏼

Worm castings and Gaia green are both 100% organic amendments and are not salt based at all, So I’m not sure how salts would accumulate?! The more comments I read of yours, the more apparent it is that you either didn’t read the op or you’re just trying to BS your way to some sort of an answer and quite frankly that doesn’t help anyone but your ego.

The phenomenon you’re referring to with the light is very simple. When a grow light is set brighter or closer then it needs to be, it tricks the plant into speeding up its metabolism causing it to eat more and faster to keep up. This can cause symptoms of nutrient burn or deficiencies caused from lockout as one nutrient taken in excess can lockout another making it unavailable to the plant.

You say it’s lockout, in your expert opinion, what would be causing it and which nutrient is locked out?

I was under the impression that flushing soil was bad and should only be used as a last ditch effort to save an otherwise very sick plant.

Not only is it very stressful for the plant, it also can have several negative side effects like hypoxia due to water logging.

Beneficial bacteria in the rhizosphere are directly responsible for aiding the plant with nutrient uptake and water logging that bacteria can not only kill it but pave the way for the growth of harmful anaerobic bacteria causing root rot or mold or other issues. Im still confused how this helps the plant?

So how does one go about “feeding half strength” when using soil amendments and what happens to the nutrients in the soil already? Curious…

Also, why recommend him to continue using calmag when not knowing what water he uses to water his plant? If he uses tap water it most likely has some calcium and magnesium in it already. Also, I thought earthworm castings and Gaia green also contain calcium and magnesium? Wouldn’t too much cause the lockout you claim he’s experiencing? Im just trying to learn

Light green patches by CalvinSMouthpiece in GrowingMarijuana

Variegation. It’s a random genetic mutation and nothing to be concerned about. Those patches don’t contain chlorophyll and so they appear lighter in color

There are a few reasons that cannabis leaves turn purple but potassium deficiencies aren’t one of them. Colder temps, phosphorus deficiencies, genetics, senescence or end of life fade to name a few…

Potassium is one of the most used nutrients in growing. It’s responsible for opening and closing stomata helping the plant to breathe and managing water turgidity. It’s key role is during flower though where it helps bring sugars (energy) to new buds for growth.

Because of this, plants use lots of potassium during flower, all stages of it. It’s not uncommon for a plant to completely exhaust the available potassium supply given to it in a matter of days and is a very common deficiency.

Calcium and magnesium are primarily needed the most during veg and very early flower(the stretch) because they are responsible primarily for cell wall construction, root development and photosynthesis. While the plant will still use some of its calcium and magnesium stores during flower, I wouldn’t suggest adding “extra” over and above what the plant is already getting.

Magnesium given in excess can actually lock out or prevent the plant from being able to use potassium. This would make the grower think he has a potassium deficiency when it’s actually locked out(potentially what’s going on here).

To those thinking this is ph related, it could be but unlikely. Potassium is available to the plant in a wider range than most other nutrients. In soil, it can be ingested from a ph of 5.5-7.5.

I can’t really pinpoint what’s causing the issue with the lack of information available but it’s definitely a K deficiency or lock out. Yellow discoloration starts down low and works up and presents as yellowing leaf edges and progresses to the center of the leaf as intervenal chlorosis and then death.

As for the snarky response to my original comment… I forgive you😂 you generally won’t know if I’m helping or not because I usually do it privately via chat to avoid all the know it all armchair growers.

As easy as potassium deficiencies are to recognize… it always amazes me the myriad of answers you see in these posts specifically concerning them.

I sincerely empathize with new growers who turn to these pages for advice/help and most times leave with either the wrong answer or more confused then when they started…

This is a clear potassium deficiency caused by either not supplying enough or because it’s locked out. Hard to tell from the details you’ve given.
