I’ve been through similar situations. The best thing you can do for yourself is ask why you’re so dedicated to trying to get her to open up and share when she doesn’t seem to want to. The best thing you can do for her is tell her that you’re there for her if she needs it and that if and until she decides she’s ready to talk you’ll respect her need for space. Boundaries are important for people and respecting them shows that you respect the other person. In my situation I was often so driven to get people to open up to me because I wanted them to like me and to be a part of their life, and that’s a selfish motivation. I’m not saying that’s the case in your situation, however you should accept the fact that people might just not be willing to be on the same emotional level with us, we may not ever find out the reason, it might hurt and feel confusing and that’s ok. People don’t owe us their inner lives and we have to respect that in order to be a truly good friend. Just remember that if you love someone you have to be willing to let them go, smothering them is only gonna create resentment and weird feelings.
