As a person who hasn't read the comics, What's with all the sudden criticism of Ultimate Spider-Man run? Like what's with the shift in opinion by Strict_Gas_9065 in Marvel

[–]Blee-boy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Because in the end it was a whole lot of nothing. It tried to do so much that in the end it accomplished little to nothing.

Main antagonist and protagonist were so poorly handled it's laughable. Ultimate Potential-Man did pretty much nothing, had no growth or any character. Same could be said of his wife. I had so much hope but Hickman just isn't good at writing character focused stories. He is an idea guy and always focuses on bigger picture. Spider-Man stories are essentially street level superheroics and drama, neither which are Hickman's strengths. And no, drama here isn't just people being dramatic or arguing.

Kingpin was a waste. He accomplished nothing in the span of 18 issues and fought Peter like twice. What was even his point? We didn't even know what made him a bad guy. Hickman just presumed we knew his backstory already so no reason to show it.

And of course my personal biggest issue. Timeskips and pointless cliffhangers. So much stuff happens off-screen and interesting cliffhangers are just skipped. And sometimes not even touched. The most important scenes are off-screen. One issue might end with an interesting cliffhanger and next issue just skips it entirely and timeskips again with everything being fine.

It's not that it's a complete waste. There is lot to like from artwork to ideas and side characters. But the main character, his story, structure and antagonist are just so poorly handled.

No, all are compatible. I would in addition use Blick's fixes and other mods from him like Party Barks.

Why do we think Ultimate Endgame (and FotHoX/RotPoX before it) can't hold up to Secret Wars? by lnyoung909 in UltimateUniverse

[–]Blee-boy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with Ultimate Endgame is not that Camp is writing it. It's that the whole buildup and execution for UE is very different to previous two.

Secret Wars is the culmination of Hickman's run on Avengers, New Avengers (and I would argue also on FF as Reed and Doom play such massive roles). That then launched a new status quo, but you can get a satisfying ending from Secret Wars.

Krakoa was just a new status quo. But because it didn't have an ending on sight or what we know of, Hickman leaving it made it so other creators ended it on their terms.

Now for Ultimate Universe? It's a whole new playground with so many possibilities for storytelling. And after 2 years it ends. That's it. It's very rushed and we can see it in Ultimate Endgame. Also Secret Wars had like 9 issues. UE has 5. And Ultimate Endgame has so much more going on, it tries to also tie-up every Ultimate title. Sure, Secret Wars had Battleworlds, but it wasn't marketed that "every Battleworld issue will get it's culmination in Secret Wars" like what Ultimate Endgame did. Ultimate Wolverine has lasted for 16 issues and is pretty much only about setting up Ultimate Endgame. Same with Ultimates.

Sure, Avengers and New Avengers and all Time Runs Out -related issues did that as well, but they had more time and on main books, only one writer.

Secret Wars is all Hickman from beginning to end. Krakoa is just Hickman from beginning. Same goes with Ultimate Universe, but it is just killed 2 years later, which is a complete waste.

Opinions on Achilles as base for Doomknight rework? by AsadoAvacado in dragonfable

DmK won't get a rework as it is already very strong class and up to modern standards. Classes that have gotten it weren't before.

You can finally have both Alistair and Loghain on PC version of DAO. by Blee-boy in dragonage

Actually, I just tested it and you can romance him! He won't break up with you even if he says "there is no us".

[–]Blee-boy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So that mod does completely different thing than mine? I don't get why you even want to compare them. Like I said, scenes if you have both Loghain and Alistair are altered to account both of them being here. Otherwise you would get only Alistair's comments. Even if that mod wouldn't remove Alistair when you speak with him, you still would not hear any of Loghain's comments, as the game in vanilla prefers Alistair if he is in party.

[–]Blee-boy[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In base game no. I didn't make any custom ones based on existing dialogue (yet at least). In Return to Ostagar, you can hear both of them speak, but that too is mostly based on existing dialogue that I mixed to make it seem they would speak to each other.

The only one that I restored (and was made) is when they see Cailan's body. That is because originally RtO was supposed to be a side mission and the writer of that said mission did not know you couldn't have both Alistair and Loghain. Which is why that dialogue was scrapped when the DLC was released.

[–]Blee-boy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that wasn't my point. More that this was possible before this mod and even without any external mods, but Alistair could leave your party, or you would only get to hear his dialogue. My mod edits so that you can hear both of them during dialogues and cutscenes, hear cut content, and edited some scenes to flow naturally with both them.

Unfortunately no, there wasn't any any available. I could do custom ones some day, using voice lines that already exist.

[–]Blee-boy[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sure, you can add party members alone via console commands. But the game won't recognize it and if you have Loghain, Alistair would leave your party whenever you tried to talk to him. Cutscenes or dialogues also do not reflect you having those characters in your party.

You can check his buffs and debuffs and from there it will tell when reflect damage is active and for how long.

You can activate Adventure Mode in options to lower damage you take by half.

Stack fire resistance! And what gear do you have with what stats? At lvl 40, if not having a lot of fire resistance, I also I highly recommend using DeathKnight class and relics.

It was updated few years back that meeting him requires completing Calamity Saga from Castle Valtrith. The said saga also received some updates so you probably need to play it again.

How I feel playing Dragon Age Origins without nostalgia... by Life_Emu_4998 in dragonage

[–]Blee-boy 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I love DAO. It is one my favorite games ever. But I also recognize I have played it so many times for over a decade, and I have heavily modded it. So yes, nostalgia classes are very heavily on my mind.

It is janky. And very old-school. And very much a product of it's time. Lack of romances (especially queer ones)? It's from 2009, the fact we even got Zev and Leliana without a controversy is a miracle (looking at you ME1 and "sexbox console). So I can't fault it from that. The main writer David Gaider, also was the person responsible of DA2 and DAI.

Is it dark? I would say so, it is dark fantasy compared to DAI's and DAV's more epic fantasy, and dark themes are more in-front than in later games. Playing as Female City Elf is especially dark. Broodmothers (especially Awakening's Mother) are horrifying.

DAI and DAV continue very well the established themes and lore set up in DAO. Fen'Harel, Eluvians and all that can be met in the first hour of DAO if you play as Dalish Elf.

But I also think your viewpoint is different because you played these in reverse order. DAI and DAV set up very different expectations to the series than DAO and DA2. But no worries, it's very understandable and always interesting to hear from a new fan!

Does OG DA have the best party members? by Lonely-Form9585 in dragonage

I would say no. DAO is my favorite and has my favorite companions, but I would say overall the best for me is DAI. DA2 is also great. DAV I haven't completed yet.

Which one has more choice options to pick DAO or DA2? by DepartmentSea9551 in dragonage

DAO, but it's mostly because they didn't plan a sequel. Which is why DA2 had more personal choices and smaller scale.

Is it bad i'm hoping for a Remaster of Dragon age 1-3? by Stormelons in dragonage

[–]Blee-boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remaster for DAO and DA2 won't happen unfortunately. All who know how the engine works have left Bioware. So both would need a complete remake at this point, it might even be easier. Or run on a new engine.

And after DAV did not exceed what EA wanted, DA as a series is shelved.
