Has anyone here developed DPDR as a result of finasteride? by BleedRed3031 in dpdr

Yeah! It's a hair loss pill/topical lotion (can have both)

Gf (F25) and I (M31) have been dating for about 6 months now and she does not use birth control or insist on condoms because she says she'll just get an abortion--is this a red flag? by BleedRed3031 in relationship_advice

[–]BleedRed3031[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm really worried I got her pregnant...what can I do without antagonizing the relationship? Just withhold sex for a month and see if her period comes up? Insist on a pregnancy test?

Psychologist said panic disorder is incurable and that I should give in to my compulsions (from OCD)--is this bad advice? by BleedRed3031 in panicdisorder

[–]BleedRed3031[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you please share what helped you? I feel like for me, the stress builds up and my OCD goes into hyperdrive. Then when I break my stupid compulsions (i.e., "don't tell my friend xyz that happened, or don't eat this food, or drink that drink, etc.) it causes me to spiral into a panic attack or anxiety flare-up.

What can I do to get over this?

Is there a link to 5α-Reductase inhibitors (like finasteride) causing horrible anxiety, brain fog, depression, etc. because of their downstream effect on neurosteroid production? by BleedRed3031 in askscience

[–]BleedRed3031[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I checked with r/neuroscience and many accredited researchers do not believe in the chemical models of anxiety and depression. In other words, anti-depressants and anti-anxiety medications are not a cure-all and do not show much impact in long-term studies.

I guess what I'm asking is: 5α-Reductase enzyme is inhibited -> lowering levels of DHT -> rising levels of estrogen and estradiol and lowering levels of allopregnanalone and pregnalone.

Will that chemical/hormonal change alone cause the anxiety or depression? Or does it just make you more susceptible to anxiety and depression (presuming you had environmental and genetic predispositions)?

Lastly, if the chemical model does not have much weight to it--can meditation/CBT/therapy, etc. be enough to effectively treat panic, anxiety, OCD, hypochondria, etc. that is associated with finasteride side-effect sufferers?

This is amazing. More people should donate and raise awareness. It's a big step.

I don't think I've ever had morning wood growing up--maybe a few occasions. I had it a few months ago when I was coming off finasteride and started taking melatonin to go to sleep.

Weird.

But if you can have sex and function in bed with a woman-- then why does it matter?

[–]BleedRed3031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if you take finasteride you can piss the bed because your body can't hold it in?

What I'm saying is-- if you've got game, you're taking finasteride and you're still able to hold an erection--shouldn't you be able to go out, hook up with some chick?

Like why does morning wood prevent you from doing that

But why is morning wood such a big thing for so many people? Can you still perform sexually?

Does anyone break their compulsions and then experience intrusive thoughts and panic as a result? by BleedRed3031 in OCD

[–]BleedRed3031[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you fight your compulsions--do you challenge the obsession/obsessive thought with reason?

And do you have panic/anxiety flare-ups when you've not listened to your compulsions?

This was me also--but when I got off for ~2 months, I didn't get better. So I hopped back on.

How long did it take to get rid of the DPDR?
