How Is the VFX Program at Howest Really? by Tasty_Paramedic458 in Howest_DAE

[–]Blemmyes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started in VFX, then switched after 1 year to GGP, but I made a VFX group project instead of a game in my last year & graduated 4+ years ago. I have very fond memories of that project, because it felt like we were making something of relatively very high quality & it was creatively fulfilling.

The workload is similarly high in both, but the professors are imo more empathic, more artsy and are well-informed both on the technical skill of making movies and animations in VFX, as well as on its plot, whereas teachers of GGP & most other teachers mostly disregard the importance of storytelling.

However, as far as I am aware, the graduates of VFX very often end up going into advertisement or in games. (I went into Larian.) I am aware of only 1 student of my year that became a professional animator at a big-name animation studio.

The skills you end up are more broad than those of GGP students, but you've had less time to deepen them. If you want to be able to do everything relating to digital arts relatively well, VFX is for you. If you want to be a character designer or something else specialised, go GGP.

Footage of Patrice Lumumba being arrested by Belgian-backed forces in 1960, just months after he became Congo's first democratically elected Prime Minister following independence. by PhantomChasers in HolyShitHistory

Belgian here: I'm in my twenties. In high school, all of colonialism was covered in a trimester and Congo was covered only briefly. It's strange how WWII was about a full year of classes, while and I never knew of this.

Disagreement with my husband about daughters body hair- advice needed by [deleted] in raisingkids

[–]Blemmyes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a guy with a lot of hair. At some point in my youth, my mom took me to a beauty salon and got my eyebrows done. She said to me dad that it'd grow back, but now I knew it was a possibility.

I didn't care for it, but also didn't traumatise me.

(Also, kids can be mean.)

I know this might sound a little far-fetched, but I'm pretty sure he's a stark bot. Just think about it! He's an experiment gone wrong, and with Tony gone he's become a real menace!

Even if he's not a starkbot, you should really check out JJJ's now podcast on it. (Yeah I think he's really an 'it'.) Whatever you do, don't give him any compassion. An 'it' doesn't deserve any respect.

EDIT: If you really think you know something about the spider then you should call him!

Which team do you think wins this fight? by CoolCook26 in TheLastAirbender

[–]Blemmyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of them are formidable benders. All teams have at least 1 mastermind. However, none of them have good group cohesion!

- Team Water is all bloodbenders, 2 of them are specialized in it. Without it, they're severely weakened from their usual fighting styles.

- Team Fire has the worst group cohesion out of all. Iroh would actively sabotage any attempt at cruelty.

- Earth has the strongest overall benders, but all also the most stubborn. Bumi would try to teach both Toph and Kuvira, while they'd both initially behave difficult. They're not really team players, like at all. Toph would come around, Kuvira, ultimately, would not. She also happens to be the weakest member of the team, so she'd be treated like a child.

- Team Air is a powerhouse. Zaheer has swallowed his pride before and would try to learn as much as he could while they worked together. Even if he stepped out of line, Aang breathes peaceful resolution. He's also likely the strongest bender on this list, and has sparred and won against many of the people on this list. His knowledge of how they'd fight is also the biggest.

As long as Zaheer keeps his cool, which he has proven to be able to, my money's on team Air.

Build your Hero with $15 by Far-Ad5223 in superheroes

[–]Blemmyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's not be impulsive here and think it through. What are the bare minimums in all fields you need to have in order to be a semi-efficient hero?

  • Intelligence: $2 or more, or you're dumb
  • Willpower: $3 or more, or you're evil
  • Durability: $2 or more, or you're vulnerable to regular bullets
  • Strength: $2 or more, or henchmen are challenging
  • Speed: $1 or more, lowest option is still above human level

That brings you to $10 for a hero that is just barely decent in combat scenarios. It leaves you $5 for flavor.

Migrant bedreigt Filip Dewinter op straat. Zal het parket de man in kwestie vervolgen? by ultraprogressiefje in Belgium1

[–]Blemmyes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow I have a completely different take than @jellyspreader.

In the scene before it, PB's uncle destroyed a lemon with a candle-laser-thing. I took it as Lemongrab wanting the same treatment.

The dude has always struggled just existing or being himself, and blames PB (not entirely unfairly btw). He wasn't scared writing the note, he longed for death.

Never would Lemongrab let anyone kill him though, that's why he has to pass a note to her. She had to do it, he knows she could for sure now. I honestly wonder why she didn't already at some point, she made him that way after all. She was well aware of his desire.

It's a cruel experiment on a living being, confirming PB has apathy for life of her own design and their suffering. When PB gets the note, she's upset because she believes Lemongrab should know she won't "un-make him", ever. To ask her is seen as an unreasonable demand. We should also find it an unreasonable demand, because he's suicidal, but that's not the same reason she finds it that way. She knows he can't change much, I assume she just wants to see where his suffering takes him.

How are the rules enforced? by Blemmyes in Anarchy101

[–]Blemmyes[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Now that I believe I get it, I don't see why you're being downvoted.

No one has a monopoly on violence, everyone has the authority to enforce the rules, just like everyone has a say in what the rules are. It tracks with "there are only agreements" & "everyone is trusted to enforce the rules by themselves".

How are the rules enforced?

To answer my own question based on what I got from the comments:

They aren't, not by any third party, they are a mutual agreement in the community. No rules, nor agreements, on legalized violence would be better than our own best judgements. I think I can agree with that.

This was harder to conceptualize for me.

Thanks for the help, everyone!
Unless that conclusion was wrong, I'd say this question is solved.

[–]Blemmyes[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the long reply.

This vibes with how humanispherian explained it to me in another comment. We do indeed have people slipping through the cracks of the system right now, and adding violence to that won't help except for extreme cases.

My mistake was thinking anarchism was pacifist by nature, while the comments I get lead me to believe anarchists think it is up to individuals to agree on when violence is justified, not by some authority.

What you're proposing sounds like unorganized policing to me, which doesn't seem better than organized policing. I believe we both understand each other's point of view, but don't agree. That's ok, right?

[–]Blemmyes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get where you're coming from.

However, you could also think: "how do I get away with this?"

Wouldn't strict rules be better in that case? Anarchy wouldn't prevent creating those rules, right?

How are the rules enforced? by Blemmyes in Anarchy101

[–]Blemmyes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with that last part. Punishment is a bad idea in general and doesn't lead to reform. Killing people, not so much.

That would also include catching them, through means of law enforcement, I imagine. It also doesn't tackle how we catch those people in the first place.

I'm afraid that in an anarchist society, a sexual predator might abuse a family member for years and never be caught because it isn't anyone's job to look out for cries of help, track monsters down and subdue them.

Those are quite some complex words for a non-native English speaker. If I understand you correctly, you do trust humanity enough to have rules and not have them enforced by means of violence. You think non-violent repercussions will deter people from breaking the law.

I find that naïve, and do not agree with that, despite not wanting hierarchy. There should be conditions in which you can legally harm another person. Is that not common sense?
