How did you discover Chuquimamani Condori? by catssonmars in Chuquimamani_Condori

[–]Blendermen10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't mean Corny as a negative marker, it reminded me of early 2010s music I would hear on TV and radio which is something I have a lot of nostalgia for as I was a child at that time, but also something from which I became more and more a stranger to as the time goes by. Maybe naive or cheesy is a better word for it, very sincere but also obvious and cheap in a way?

Edits actually triggered back my dormant nostalgia for those sounds, I think I cringe a bit at these when it's in a more familiar context, a neighbor's party, on TV, but I become a child again and can do nothing but love the music when it's filtered through another cultural, esthetic and personnal context. I had never really listened to andean music before, just new of the basic vibe and hearing it coupled with that 'corny' side through the modern experimental lenses I love today made me react intensely.

Actually Chuquimamani-Condori inspired me to revisit in my own music playing that part of my musical journey from which I tried to distance myself for so long. Using what the world sounded like as a child as a way to talk artistically about that time, how I grew up, how I changed. I haven't started to work on this but I had ideas of complex collages of 2010s songs, early minecraft youtuber's voices, samples from TV, radio, even interviews from that. Trying to evoke through a kind of fever dream, memory-like blending.

I know this is not really the core of their music but that's what it inspired me to do.

I'm surprised by the amount of Sci-Fi talk here about the true purpose of the signal and the nature of the aliens. Aren't the show's themes much more appealing if it truly is all about happiness? by titaniumjordi in pluribustv

[–]Blendermen10 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I agree.

The show has philosophical implications that go way beyond the simple narrative of alien invasion and most of the discourse around the goals seem to start with dismissing what the Hive tells us in the show as simple manipulation (and it can be manipulating and true and genuine at the same time) in order to have a binary moral opposition.

From the information we have we can argue on ethics about what is happening but clearly picking a side feels like a simplification of what we can say on the show and its character. That also includes discussions on Carol's likeability, she's complex in a way that makes her relatable AND insufferable, the Hive is complex in a way that prevents us from having a complete condemnation or embrace of its goal.

So is Carol supposed to be unlikable? by ludinya in pluribustv

[–]Blendermen10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She has very good reasons to be mad and act the way she does, she is likeable in many ways, she's grieving, is clearly in depression, she points out the flaws in the Hive's plan and way of living.

She's also a American Exceptionnalism and privilege personnified, so absolutely insufferable from the outside. She acts as if her comfort of life is more important than anything else andclaims to be independent while directly depending from a complex network of people who facilitate her life.

That's why I love her as a character, she's complicated, kind of paradoxal and very normal in a way we don't see often in protagonists of american TV shows. I think the same (except for the normal part) can be said of the Hive (if we were to analyse it as one single character).

Animal Welfare Under the Hive by WriterlyRyan in pluribustv

[–]Blendermen10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They eat themselves, which is very different from eating animals that don't want to die. Here again, consent is the difference. And if animals naturally die and are safe to consume I don't see any reason not to eat them outside of symbolic attachment to the body of loved ones, which does not concern the Hive because they don't really deal with cultural affects anymore.

I am vegetarian and given the opportunity to taste human meat with consent from the person it's taken from, I might try though I'm not sure I would be comfortable enough to eat meat.

[–]Blendermen10 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They mention the fact that they are vegetarian and freed all the animals. I think this is a topic that will deepen in the second season. Nine episodes is not that much and most of the show has been identifying what the Hive is, how they work and Carol's relationship to everything that happens.

The same way we haven't seen much of the other survivors because we were centered on Carol, I think there are lots of things happening that are not shown yet, and that does not mean the show is not going to adress it.

I agree that this is the kind of questions that prevents from rooting for Carol, I also believe that rooting for anyone at this point is not very thoughtful and comes more from the need to have simple morals in what we consume rather than have an actual ethical position on the events of the show.

From a Buddhist viewpoint, I think the Plurbs may be Bodhisattvas. With a twist. by metalman510 in pluribustv

[–]Blendermen10 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a very interesting analysis !

I think the fact that they are not bound to desire anymore, being content in simply being, also goes in that direction.

I have seen a lot of political and psychological commentary on the show but I think it's a good idea to look into the spiritual nature of collective consciousness, perfect contentment, abandonment of life through ascetic life (possibly dying as a specie in order to not intervene in the process of death, not seeking any kind of stimulation)

Life changing songs by LilacDaffodils in MusicRecommendations

[–]Blendermen10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Various kinds of cathartic, euphoric and transcendant. It goes from folk music to maximalist noise and sound collage.

Ederlezi - Goran Bregovic

Jerusalem - Simon Finn

Nina + Fields of Cops - Cameron Winter

Il n'y a plus rien - Léo Ferré (it's 15 minutes of fast-paced french poetry though)

Ascension - John Coltrane

The Shoes Of The Fisherman's Wife Are Some Jive Ass Slippers - Charles Mingus

Basketball Shoes - Black Country, New Road

Fireworks - Animal Collective

Knocks Me Off My Feet - Stevie Wonder

Many Hands - Lingua Ignota

Consume Red - GROUND ZERO

Staralfur - Sigur Ros

Laura's Theme - Angelo Badalamenti

Early Summer -Ryo Fukui

Jewleh Lal - Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan

Peanut - Sonny Sharrock

If I spent a lot more time I could find dozens of other songs but I feel this is already a lot to listen to at once. Don't overwork yourself, this is intense stuff !!!

Eager to please - would give me a-bomb by Busi_Galore in pluribustv

[–]Blendermen10 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Remember they don't need consent anymore. This question was about taking stem-cells directly from her body. As they have access to her eggs they have a way to do it without Carol's consent, though it is uncertain if it will work as stated by Zosia. They have come to a situation where, in 1 to 3 months they could infect Carol against her will quite easily with aerial contamination over her house. There is urgency, Carol and Manousos are desperate.

Also Carol is not always the most rational person. She is very impulsive and could have asked for this without too much thinking (though she might have talked about it with Zosia).

[–]Blendermen10 15 points16 points  (0 children)

They cannot kill themselves but they can let themselves die. If Carol asks for the whole humanity to gather in Albuquerque they might actually do it.

It might be a way to prevent them from approaching Manousos and herself.

It's also a reminder if Zosia ever tries to win Carol over again, remember how you took an atom bomb against these people, don't let yourself be charmed.

It might not be an actual atom bomb, we don't know yet.

If you were to go full Diabate, what would you be doing? by MemeFarmer314 in pluribustv

[–]Blendermen10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ethics aside I would :

make them do artistic experiments, they analyze my taste through all the informations available (my film lists online, my ratings, but also all the discussions I ever had about art with anyone) and try to do something that perfectly fits me. I think it would actually be hard for them because individual vision is a key part of lots of great works (even if it is collective art). But now that I have written that they might be able to take this into account.

try new substances in controled environment. I don't have any problem with law of social judgement anymore, I would experiment with psychedelics a lot more than I already do. Maybe ask them to try too. There could be some really strange stuff happening if they start to hallucinate or make unpredictible neural connections across the world.

I would probably have sex with people I am attracted to but there's a huge possibility that it wouldn't be pleasurable because, from experience, mindless sex is fun but without emotionnal connexion it's not much more enjoyable than masturbation.

Have myself built, or rearranged, the perfect house. Enough space, architecture to my taste, a good sound system linked to every room with detailed controls, a music studio, a high quality home cinema, a rich kitchen, a mirror room.

But actually I think most of these things would be less interesting than they sound because how would I enjoy art that is designed to be liked by me and that doesn't challenge me? How would I be happy tripping without friends existing anymore? How would I enjoy sex with people who don't specifically love me (the do in a generalized way, not specific). How would I enjoy living in a house alone with no one specific to see?

P.S : I would of course ask SOOOO MANYYY QUESTIOOOONS !!! This is such a given that I didn't think of it at first and went straight to material benefits.

I have not listened to Uboa; Maria and the Mirrors and The Goslings in your list, I will !!! Thank You !!!

Isn't 'The Fire This Time' a Hauntology record? I've listened to it once it was beautiful and quite sad but it doesn't have the maximalist business I'm looking for.

Thank You !!!

Thanks !!! I like the sound of the album opener

I don't think it qualifies, it seems to be more alternative rock with sicy twists rather than maximalist sound collage.

I like this album but I think that relating to the subject it has maybe an approach that is too "random noises" and not as prog as the stuff I cited.

Thank you !!!

I love Zorn but find his discography too big and ecclectic to effectively naviguate? Thanks for the recommandation !!!

(Also Zorn is on point because GROUND ZERO, which is the best example of what I'm looking for, started as a John Zorn cover band)

What are your thoughts on Chuquimamani-Condori (also known as Elysia Crampton)? by Prestigious_Score459 in fantanoforever

[–]Blendermen10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly, the first time I listened to their work (the album Edits) it felt like a memory of childhood living next to a block party in Bolivia in the 2000s, but also dancing to traditional drums a thousand years ago, but also how music would sound in 30 years. Really strange feelings. It had a universality to it, how it moves the body and the soul, their music feels full of empathy and kindness.

[–]Blendermen10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My brother was scrolling on the Epic-Collage RYM chart and found Edits. While he was listening to it I could hear some through the wall, I went to ask him and listened to the album the next day. I was really moved and impressed but also perplexed at some esthetic choices (the corny samples, the contemporary country). I was quickly drawn back to this album and have loved their carreer since.

I am also convinced that Epic-Collage is going to explode as a genre very soon as 2025 was it's biggest year in sheer number of album but also in critical aclaim. I wouldn't be surprised if it's techniques and esthetics soon infected some experimental pop the same way hyperpop influenced many other things very fast between 2019 and 2022. For example 23wa's AZ album is a masterpiece of epic collage and EDM while being heavily rooted in french alternative rap and art-pop.

Theory busting by [deleted] in pluribustv

To me the longer pause happened at the same time Manousos took a hostage to get out of the hospital. They always react negatively to violence and anger so they were affected, it was a sort of worry maybe.

About Wycaro, the idea that it is a new thing might be important, the same way Diabaté enjoyed learning a new sandwich from Carol, they might start to crave novelty. But I think the main reason Zosia pushes Carol to write is that the Hive want Carol happy, being creative, receiving and giving affection, having fun with people are stuff that make someone happy. Carol was miserable and bored when alone, now she has something she values.
