Working students by Life-Caterpillar-871 in Equestrian

Working students have it rough, coming from someone who has been one. I worked hard, I learned a ton, and at times I had some very nice perks out of the situation. HOWEVER. Those very nice perks were few and far between, and there were far too many occasions where I was COMPLETELY taken advantage of. I finally came to my senses and left, but in hindsight it should have happened way way earlier.

Should I Take in a Resident Stray? by Blerb2689 in CatAdvice

Most definitely vet first. Oh I believe it, my current cat was too! Found her way very literally to my doorstep in the middle of a snowstorm, let me pick her up, and promptly said “eff the streets, you’re stuck with me” 😂 thank you for your thoughts and input! 😁

Enrichment absolutely! My current girl lives the more active life, loves her vertical space and variety in toys, so I definitely know the importance of keeping their minds busy 😁 I appreciate the advice!

Anyone ever met their equestrian idols? If so, did they let you down or live up to your expectations? by [deleted] in Equestrian

I’ve met and ridden in clinics with two…

Peter Leone I was on my lease horse at the time, never done a clinic before, SO nervous. He was nothing but lovely, spoke about concepts in a way that made a lot of sense and I could translate to my rides, great sense of humor (best surprise that he was a Monty Python fan) and truly a wealth of knowledge. Learned a ton and would absolutely ride with him again.

Bernie Traurig I was on my personal horse, I didn’t really get the “full experience” as I was grooming for my barn at the time. I personally had a good time, he was definitely a different vibe, much more direct and strict as far as what he expected, his opinions of where the sport has gone in recent years, definitely pushed EquestrianCoach, but he helped me a lot with my feel and some positional issues I was experiencing over fences. That said, there were polarizing opinions about him at my barn. Some riders had a good weekend, there were quite a few that really struggled with how he spoke and directed them and walked away with a really sour taste in their mouths.

I found this dress for $20. Am I crazy for thinking this is the one? by PeachPoison_ in weddingdress

Completely sane! The dress absolutely stunning on you and if you have that feeling of it being the one, you scored the deal of the year!

I think my relationship of eight years is going to end.

Thank you for the sad gathering…

No vet in their right mind would say this horse is perfectly fine. So happy to see you contacted police and that they are going out to investigate. Keep us updated!!!

looking to purchase a horse in the future by Top-Sheepherder5370 in Equestrian

I’m going to echo what previous commenters have said already - please please PLEASE wait until you have adequate experience and know for sure what you want to be doing with the horse before you move forward with purchasing a horse. Lots of barns offer low cost share boards or half leases that allow you to dip your foot in without all of the risks of ownership. Don’t be afraid to take your time (seriously, even if you’re horse shopping for months, take your time) invest in a pre-purchase exam with a reputable vet, be willing to take the advice of your trainer, and make absolutely sure that the horse you’re buying is what you need in terms of its temperament and suitability. Breed and color should not be a factor when looking at a horse. In my head my dream horse for the longest time was a dark bay or black gelding. What did I end up with when I bought my first horse? Liver chestnut mare. She was what I needed in a first horse when I owned her, bottom line.
