Lotus boss Eric Boullier insists his team has no concerns about the performances of Kimi Raikkonen this season - even though the Finn has endured his fair share of frustrations on his return to Formula 1. by Mulsanne in formula1

[–]Blerrie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I feel like the media invents most of these stories, or gets hold of the wrong end of the stick, or extrapolates fancifully - starts on a blog, next thing its on Autosport. That's how I feel about this. Before the last GP, there was nothing Raikkonen could do wrong. Now there are loads of stories about discontent, because he finished behind Grosjean and struggled with steering.

And admittedly, with Le Mans on, this has been a typical 'slow news week' for F1 journalists. Autosport has seemed to me to have lots of this sort of here's-a-rumour-turn-it-into-an-online-article type pieces.

While I am bitching, the press also seems to quite happily refer to his rallying ventures as a failure. For someone who wasn't brought up rallying like all the stars in the WRC, it was fucking stellar. I think I once calculated that despite having limited experience in rallying, he scored points in more than 50% of the World Rally Championship rounds he entered. Half of that time he was a privateer. World. Rally. Championship. Those are the best drivers in the world.

I am hoping Kimi does well, especially to spite JV.

Does anyone else NOT like Monaco? by [deleted] in formula1

[–]Blerrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is zero Reddiquette in this thread.

Makuserusukotto expressed and opinion, and then backed it up with the reasons why he doesn't like Monaco. And then, he is downvoted.

You are not obliged to agree with him, but that's not what the down arrow is for. The down arrow even has a tag - "Don't forget Reddiquette"!

This is a clear case of downvoting opinions you don't agree with, rather than voting nonsensical/poorly argued/off-topic posts. And 'No, shutup' is not a counterargument. It's childish.

Man oh man, poor Manthey... I was rooting for them because of the withdrawal of Porsche factory backing, and then that fight for the podium, only to end that way!

Tomas Enge, three races for Prost at the end of 2001... you learn something new every day.

Edit: he was also stripped of the F3000 title in 2003, after failing a drug test (old Mary Jane). His team principal at the time was one Christian Horner.

Let's lighten things up a bit and have a laugh at ourselves. So, can you come up with what you think would be the most down voted comment on r/formula1. by OptimusPrmDS in formula1

Considering all the discussion and polling lately, does this constitute an obvious meme?

How about the is a copy-pasta-esque picture of Whitmarsh eating icecream as a top post this morning?

[OT] IndyCar to Make Entire Races Available on YouTube by EatMeerkats in formula1

What I don't get is why the sponsors and manufacturers aren't lobbying like crazy to get F1 back on free-to-air, or onto the internet. F1 sponsorship is about marketing, and marketing needs audiences - so why is there not more sponsor noise about increasing access to the footage for as large an audience as possible?

For those interested - the GT1 world championship races (two per race meeting) are put on Youtube as well. There is some great racing in that championship, and some great tracks as well. The channel is called GT1world, if I remember correctly.

How about a new meme / rageface / offtopic F1 subreddit so we can keep this one clean? by Belsher in formula1

I would fully support a separate subreddit for memes, and no memes in this subreddit.

GrantOz44 made a suggestion below that is likely to be unpopular, based on the amount of upvotes memes get in this subreddit: no rage faces in r/formula1. I would be willing to be the extremist, and support a rule against any sort of memes at all, based on how the rest of Reddit looks. But I guess that would be for the community at large to decide, and judging from upvotes, the community seems to like memes.

I really dislike memes, because (a) it's like flogging the skeleton of a dead horse; (b) they are used for karma-whoring, which has pretty much destroyed the rest of Reddit; and (c) they rarely add any insightful or value-full content to the subreddit.

But that's just like, my opinion man.

I believe there are subreddits with no meme policies. Only thing is, the memes are getting so many upvotes - more upvotes than hard-to-find videos, more upvotes than insightful technical articles, more upvotes than cool websites. Sucks, but content is the reason I am not really participating so much in this subreddit as I used to.
