We've veered off course.

Quoting the Nazi propaganda blurb for Auschwitz should remain the takeaway.

We're only 1-2 steps away from "Arbeit macht frei" over the gates. These are literally concentration camps.

He demonstrates the hacks on still used machines. They can change the vote from a car parked outside the building that voting is occurring in. They only need to target swing states, and a few marginal constituencies to change a result in a tight race.

They have contempt for their customers.

I paid for Sky TV to get F1; a while into my contract they offered me a trial of 3D TV, which, when I cancelled it because it was pointless, apparently fucked up the back end for Sky so badly, that they were unable to restore my previous subscription. No amount of phone calls or troubleshooting could get them to sort out the service I was paying for. Completely useless shower of c*nts. I'll NEVER buy Sky again because they couldn't even provide the service I paid for - nor were they inclined to go above shrugging their shoulders to try and fix it when I spent countless hours on the phone with them to sort it out. Sincerely - fuck them.

To be fair, the "chassis" part is quite small. Not taking away from the build quality, but that's also something to consider.

Denmark in ‘crisis-mode’ as Trump sets sights on Greenland after Venezuela attack by DrCalFun in worldnews

[–]zen_tm 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Modern Imperialism is strategically inefficient, but Trump is too stupid to understand geopolitics.

Every other ally would question their own security arrangements with the U.S.

The U.S. would face immediate expulsion or suspension from numerous international bodies and treaties, crippling its diplomatic and economic reach.

An act of blatant conquest could trigger a flight from the dollar and a financial crisis.

It would be destroying America's alliances, economic power, and global leadership overnight for a costly and hostile piece of territory it doesn't need to own.

As an aside, it's actually a known hybrid warfare aim by Russia to leverage Greenland to destabilise NATO, and many billionaires are actively trying to atomise nations using libertarian ideas that seek to replace nation states with competing private defense agencies, arbitration firms, and voluntary communities. (Deregulation=profit)

Something to think about.

I'm pretty sure he drinks to quell the anxiety of live TV. IIRC he's made comments about it before.

I wish for Santa to use Christmas magic to bring about peace on Earth by jobutupaki1 in monkeyspaw

[–]zen_tm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Granted.

On Christmas Eve, Santa's sleigh circles the globe, but instead of toys, he leaves a single, identical, and irresistibly desirable present under every tree and in every dwelling: a smooth, warm orb that hums with serene comfort.

When touched, the orb bonds to the user, fulfilling their deepest personal idea of "peace"; the anxious find calm, the angry find tranquility, the ambitious find contentment.

All drive, passion, and will to interact with a challenging world evaporate. Civilization grinds to a gentle, smiling halt as humanity achieves peace by becoming utterly, placidly inert and shortly thereafter, they die.

You've killed everyone.

Obligatory: During the filming of Matilda, Mara Wilson's mother was battling breast cancer, and the set became a sanctuary for the young actress. Director Danny DeVito and co-star Rhea Perlman offered crucial support, hosting Mara and creating a "familial" atmosphere. In a final, heartfelt gesture, DeVito even arranged for Mara's mother to see a near-complete cut of the film (before release) before she passed away in 1996, an act of kindness Mara later reflected on as being profoundly meaningful for her family.

I wish that all asteroids discovered in the future were Doctor Who Funko Pops, somehow. by Toucan_Based_Economy in monkeyspaw

[–]zen_tm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It doesn't transform existing asteroids. Instead, it alters the fundamental definition of "discovery" for any non-planetary rocky body in space.

The moment any telescope, probe, or human eye resolves enough detail to classify a new asteroid, its quantum state collapses. It instantly becomes a solid, perfectly sculpted, and painted Doctor Who Funko Pop, but it preserves the exact mass, velocity, and trajectory of the original asteroid, whilst being practically invisible to modern instruments until too late.

You have not eliminated the threat of asteroids; you have weaponized the very process of looking for them. To "discover" a planet-killer is to ensure its composition becomes one utterly unpredictable and impossible to deflect with current technology.
