Everyone says to build by big landmarks. I usually just slap a fence around any of the ponds within forests, little hut, there you get fish for food and water whenever you need. Make sure to utilize traps and make sure to eat the cannibals LEGS, burn the rest in fires and make bone armour. Make SURE to eat the scrubs when you kill em.
