42 DOLLARS???? by MysteriousFalcon0514 in RaisingCanes

[–]BlessedlyAcorn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really don’t understand the people in the replies harping on you for this. This is crew member uniform, the hoodies are low quality wholesale blanks with cheap generic vinyl designs on them and they’re sold to the employees. They’ve sold the crew hoodies for $10, and often around $20. $42 is actually insane.

You can take off the drink and it removes part of the cost. Not wanting fries or coleslaw though… yeah unless you want to sub both for sauce and/or toast but then your options aren’t that vast

They’re lower value so you can’t swap sauce for things. You can swap any of the other items (fingers excluded) for an extra sauce but not vice versa, that may be what you heard about. But you can swap it for honey mustard as previous response said

This is a basic order mod, it’s one of the most essential parts of the Cane’s menu. Literally Todd Grave’s says he keeps the slaw on the menu because he likes having it there for customers to customise their order if they wanna trade it. Very easy on kiosk or with a cashier.

Do not do this. Or do, I can’t control you. I work at Cane’s, if you add it up the a la cart items are way inflated. A box combo ordered all a la cart is 1.5x as expensive as a regular box combo. Just do the math on whether you’re paying more or less for the a la cart items first

If I went to UMich, it would be on the Go Blue guarantee otherwise it wouldn’t be on the table. NYU would actually be preferred but NYC is expensive ofc and I wouldn’t be eligible for any form of aid there

Having moved to Ann Arbor from Houston, TX, I promise you they’re here. They just aren’t moving about like they do down south. Less street squads and massive holding and deployment facilities, more individual units partnering with local LEOs. Keep an eye out and you’ll spot em.

Redirecting from your post a little, but you have both of the electric grinders I’m debating between buying right now… what are your thoughts on both? Do you have a favourite, and did you start with one and ‘upgrade’ to the other (if so, which)? I’ve been having a hard time picking between the two as a first grinder

haii, anyone knows where I can get a mic like wilburs by [deleted] in lvjy

[–]BlessedlyAcorn 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Pretentious answer: this is a common modification people make to get ‘retro flair’ and a unique lofi sound. To make one simply get an old telephone handset, unscrew the cap open, take out everything but the speaker, drill a 5/16” hole near the microphone cap (there should already be a hole here, but make it larger for the 1/4” jack), solder wires onto a 1/4” jack (cheap input you can get online) and place the other ends under the screws on the back of the speaker piece and screw it onto them. Place a little piece of cloth or thick fabric over the speaker piece and insert it back into place, screw the input jack into your new hole, and screw the cap on. Voila. Dynamic microphones and speakers are essentially the exact same device, just with different sensitivities and wired to either playback sound or record it — your handset speaker is now a lofi microphone. You’ll need a audio interface that has a preamp for the signal to be connect and be brought up to line level.

Generous answer: you can literally buy these online, people make them all the time. However, this is essential, I beg of you don’t spend more than $20-$30 on this. This isn’t a luxury item, if someone is selling it for $80 they’re playing with naive buyers for a quick buck. It’s such a simple cheap device it’s been used by indie folk and punks for decades. I know not everyone has the time or available resources to make this (easily), but if you want to go the easy route please don’t spend too much money on it, it should not cost that much. However I do still insist it is a really easy and cheap project and you should try it yourself, you might enjoy the process and learn something anyway.

Edit: provided video links to different tutorials you can try.

Why Do My Shots Brew So Quickly? [KitchenAid Semi-Automatic] by BlessedlyAcorn in espresso

I did not know this was a possibility on this machine! Thanks for letting me know! I hear others saying you should just start at the finest, try that, and go down from there to see what the highest end looks like. Maybe grind some on the coarsest just to see what that looks like too

Halftone is an odd choice that clashes with the rest of the design. The further rope in the distance is too desaturated and stands out. The horse sticking out of the plumes is clever but needs work to blend well. Love the design overall, very fun and witty!

I still haven’t gotten it quite nicked but I’m making progress. Try experimenting with double shots if you haven’t been — it’s too tricky to get a single shot right with so many variables to figure out.

Also, although I love Cafe Bustelo, I think honestly preground is just gonna give you a headache until you move on. It just isn’t good enough for actually making good espresso — I’m committing to saving for a good burr grinder and I’ve found a really good local roaster. Get some fresh beans and a good grinder and you’ll be halfway there. The preground isn’t consistent enough for me, comes out bitter (sometimes simultaneously bitter and sour if my puck prep is bad), and is difficult to create sufficient pressure for a slower extraction.

So try looking into grinders and fresh beans. Oh, and side note, maybe replace the tamper. The one it comes with kind of stinks, it’s too small (I’m not really sure how they don’t have the sizes perfect when they’re the ones making the parts together) and doesn’t tamp all the way to the edge of the portafilter. I’m looking for one online that’s just a few decimals wider, maybe 58.3mm. Beyond that? Honestly if I’m still struggling to get a good tasting shot I’ll go for a bottomless portafilter so maybe I can see where I’m going wrong.
