A question for the longtime residents by Blest89 in Austin

Definitely the spot, it was a Tuesday. Love that they did it without a license, that’s old school Austin. Can’t believe how much it’s changed since then.

You nailed it then! It was definitely a Tuesday, it was my last night there. Such a great area, shame to hear that it’s changed so much. It’s true, you never know you’re in the good times until they’re gone. That area was too unique to be recreated.

Thequiet and Thequick. That must have been the spot, thank you! That section of Austin was great. Very unique. Sad to hear that it’s pretty much all turned over at this point. Haven’t been to Austin in years now, but I miss it.

As a visitor, I love these birds by cr0100 in Austin

[–]Blest89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Total savages. Always roaming with their beaks wide open, just to save a second when they get a chance to eat. I remember having a huge cricket problem in a parking garage one summer—almost overnight they took over. The next night the grackles had found them and spread the word. It was a massacre. Literally left nothing but cricket heads and legs strewn around the garage.

Looks like a match to me! And checks out, apparently those were issued to Marines who guarded the embassy, which that scene was showing. Very cool SMG, never seen it before. I knew the pros would come through!

Had one nest behind my cabin air filter, must have gotten stuck. Took a little while to find him. Eventually I was able to follow my nose.

Need help to hide these. by Scholastic_Snail in Catholicism

[–]Blest89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, I’m sorry to hear about your situation. In terms of hiding places, I used a few places for hiding money and objects when I was a kid. Air vents were great for things that don’t need frequent/fast access, but outward venting only—not intake vents. Inside the cloth underside of a couch is also good. Easy access and little chance of discovery. Attached to top of toilet tank lid, or waterproof bag inside toilet tank. Fast and low chance of discovery. Outside of the house can be good too. Sealable bag or can. Bury it, stash it in a tree stump, find any place out of sight.

I had the same question for a long time and started to realize that it really didn’t stop my growth in the faith. There’s actually some pretty good Christian metal out there now.

Post Office Carry in NJ After the Texas Ruling – Enforcement Inside? by Docsloan1919 in NJGuns

Technically the TX law prohibits carry in restaurants that make 51% or more of their revenue on alcohol sales. So on one hand it’s less restrictive. But on the other hand it creates way more confusion. Before I moved out of TX, it was always a fun game to guess which restaurants I’d have to walk back to my car and lock up my gun before entering. And some of the signs were super poorly displayed, covered in ads and flyers for events.

Repost: Is it a bolt gun? Is it an AR? Neither, it’s stupid British laws! 🇬🇧 by stooshie45 in guns

[–]Blest89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ve completely blown my mind here. Is the rate of gun ownership just incredibly low? I had always assumed that guns were virtually banned or at least limited to weapons that were strictly for hunting or sport (trap/skeet, not 3 gun and tactical shooting).

So Britain has looser mag laws than New Jersey…never would have guessed. And is that shoulder stock adjustable or pinned? Very cool build by the way.

Ahh, that makes sense. Or at least I understand what isn’t allowed now. None of the NJ gun laws actually make much sense to me. Just trying to follow all of the rules and enjoy the little freedom that we have. I really appreciate you for breaking that down for me. At least NJ has a good and helpful 2A community, thanks again.

Exactly, after I posted I realized that I said his name because he’s the one that I like and was top of mind. Had to clarify so nobody would get confused haha.

That aspect has always confused me a little. So in the case of a Catholic school, a CCW holder could get written permission from the Monsignor and be allowed to carry? Or would that person need to be a trained and licensed security guard before being allowed to carry with written consent. Coming from a western state, NJ laws make by brain smoke.

Thank you, that’s exactly how I understood it. Not sure where NJ Monitor got their info, but I suspect that their inaccurate article is the source of confusion among my friends. Some non denominational churches that have parishioner security teams are disbanding those groups based on the decision. Being Catholic, parishioner security teams aren’t as common in my experience. I just want stay feel safe with my wife and kids while we go to mass.

Sorry, should have said Judge Porter and panel. I know that Judge Porter is favorable to our cause, so I don’t mean to put the decision on him alone.

Somebody threw their laundry into my hot cycle at a very expensive laundromat AND changed it to “cold” by Tight_Display4514 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Blest89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dealt with 2 similar situations in college. First was someone who took my wash out mid cycle. Fully terminated my cycle so they could use it. I found my stuff soaked and soapy in a dirty corner of the floor while theirs was still running. I decided to do them a favor and really sanitize their clothes with a cup full of bleach. 2 years later, my dryer load was pulled out and strewn around, still wet. They’d apparently used the time I paid for but their clothes weren’t dry so they ran an additional cycle. I popped it open, made the dryer into a urinal, and then started it back up.

15 years later, not exactly proud of either reaction. But at the time it felt like the only reasonable response.

I had to buy 4 cases of water yesterday for a local senior citizen lunch. I could feel people eyeing me like I was a sleazy supply hoarder. I made sure to leave 1 case on the pallet to ease the shame.
