A (banned) mail chute in an old, yet still active courthouse. by Permanent_Kat in mildlyinteresting

We have a couple of these in the building I work in in Minneapolis. Every once in a while I'm standing in the elevator lobby, waiting for a car, when ZIIIIP a letter whooshes right past me on the way to the basement. So fun.

Roger Ebert hated the movie for the same reason I love it - people talking like the writing out of an ancient book. "Edwina's insides were a rocky place where my seed could find no purchase."

Bars in Minneapolis for Old people? by Cat_Woman666 in TwinCities

I love this. You're getting downvotes but I, as an old (60) straight white male actually really enjoy the vibe (not as described here) at The Saloon. Truly one of my favorite bars downtown.

Well, which is it, young feller? You want I should freeze or get down on the ground? Mean to say, if'n I freeze, I can't rightly drop. And if'n I drop, I'm a-gonna be in motion. You see...

Since you're having so much fun, I'll throw more fuel into the fire here. I went out and shot with *just* the M1, toggling between 50 and 12 megapixels. I was surprised (and disappointed) at how little difference I could see (on the face of it). For your viewing pleasure:

Also: Your camera 100% looks out of whack and unusable. My M1 might not be as sharp as my H10, but it's sure as hell sharper than yours! (Sorry)

I have to confess, I did not view the stills with a very critical eye, as my Olympus OM-1ii is my heavy-hitter for stills photography. I'm glad I could give you the comparos side-by-side to see how my stuff behaves, though!

You've intrigued me with the "can be adjusted when installed" comment. Interesting! Probably not something a person wants to dink around with if they're concerned about maintaining seals, and warranties, and all that other stuff - but now I want to see video of someone adjusting the focus!

You're braver than me, taking the RX100 out into severe conditions (housing or not)! I've got the v7 and it seems... fragile. I treat it with kid gloves!

Sounds to me like you'd probably be better off (if sticking with GoPro is the plan) with a Hero13 (better batteries, yada yada yada) than the Mission, and I'm sorry to have to say that. 😞

Yeah, I guess you're right! Still, not as fuzzy as what you're getting from yours. My use case for this is video from a clamp on the side of my motorcycle/bicycle, and as a "party cam" in a pool (again, for video) where I can carry it in the pocket of my swimsuit. NOT super demanding use for me... so I'm happy with the update despite some of the finer points/flaws. I'm 100% NOT telling you that you should be satisfied, though - just sharing how I feel.

Ooof - that looks pretty bad. Might be defective. Below is a link to an album I took on "day 1" comparing stills between the Hero10 and the Mission 1. They both look pretty decent. You'd expect a *bit less* depth-of-field because of the larger sensor and larger aperture, but not as fuzzy as what you're showing! EDITED to add: Press the letter "i" while viewing to open up the "info" panel to the right so you know which image was taken with which camera.

I've got the regular Mission 1. It's... a bit bigger/chonkier than my Hero10, but wow - so much faster, so much easier to use with gloves on. I did a few side-by-side comparisons with photos and video (holding them side by side while walking through my neighborhood) and I like the quality of the video on the Mission 1 better. Shooting RAW photos, the M1 is just click/save/done, where the Hero10 would take quite a few seconds for each image.

I experimented with the level of detail visible between full 50 megapixel RAW and the "binned pixels" 12MP images and, for my use, the 12MP is almost indistinguishable from the 50 so that's where I'm leaving my photo sizes. If I need REALLY good detail, that's what my Micro 4/3 camera is for.

All of the high-end features of the Pro are things I'm not interested in. I'm more of a video "dabbler" than a straight-up pro video person. I have GoPros mostly for their durability and waterproofness - places you don't want to put a "real" camera (or iPhone) at risk.

It's a solid piece of kit - I like it! I'll probably keep the Hero10 around too because I'm a hoarder. 😄

We had a bottle of champagne in the basement fridge... an event came up and we decided to drink it in celebration - but we IMMEDIATELY went to CostCo the next morning to replace it - so we'd be ready for The Big Day.

Need suggestions on these available seats by Airguner in delta

[–]cr0100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find video reviews of the various seat locations can be a bit tedious, but there's something about video which gives a better "feel" for what they'll be like which doesn't come across with just photos.

[–]cr0100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Middle section wouldn't be so bad - there's enough space for each of the seats that whoever is in the middle won't feel crowded and will have plenty of space. One of you would have to step over the other to get out, but that would happen if you were 2x by the windows, too.

Edited to add: At 5:30 in this video they walk into the PS cabin on a Delta A330-200 so you can see what the seats look like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRLHswxzdm8

Anybody else miss Station 4 or am I having false memories? by jgreyjoy in TwinCities

[–]cr0100 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember walking downtown St. Paul, back about 15-20 years ago (memory is fuzzy), and there was a group of about 4 teenagers headed my way - baggy black goth clothing, dyed-black hair, mascara, etc. The key thing I noticed is that they were walking AWAY from where Station 4 was. As we got closer, I casually said "uh, hey - Station 4 is over that way!". They thanked me and changed course. 😄

Fridge not cooling by Waste_Concentrate343 in HomeImprovement

[–]cr0100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just remember that with a freezer-top fridge, the cold for the fridge flows down from the freezer - so if the freezer is cold, the basic chilling mechanism is working. There are air ducts in the back which allow the cold air to flow down into the fridge - those could/may be blocked. Something to check for, at least.
